Reducing My Carbon Footprint
Skylar Smith
What is a Carbon Footprint?
• It’s a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment.
• It shows how our activities will affect climate change.
• It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation etc.
• The carbon footprint is a measurement of all greenhouse gases we individually produce and has units of carbon dioxide equivalent.
As of now, what is my personal Carbon Footprint?
• According to The Nature Conservancy, my estimated greenhouse gas emissions are 12 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
• My average of emissions is lower than the national average which is 27 tons per year.
As of now, what is my household Carbon Footprint?
• According to The Nature Conservancy, our estimated greenhouse gas emissions are 50 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
• Our average of emissions is lower than the national average which is 110 tons per year.
• The world average is only 22 tons per year.
How can I reduce my Carbon Footprint?
• Walk or ride a bike instead of driving a car.• Use fluorescent light bulbs instead of incandescent
light bulbs.• Recycle and use recycled products. • Use less heating and cooling and better insulate my
home. • Shop locally for everything. (Fuel is used to transport
products). • These are minor steps, I can do very simple things to
conserve that would create an endless list.
