All students using iPads to support their learning at Aviation High School are required to comply with the following expectations regarding their use. Students not meeting these expectations will be dealt with according to school’s Responsible Behaviour Plan. During Lessons The iPad is a teaching and learning tool. To make the most of learning time routines for the use of your device have been developed. Communicating with others The iPad will be an invaluable tool for connecting you to vital information within and beyond the school. Again, there are some routines and procedures required to ensure the most appropriate use of the device in an educational setting. Cybersafety and Security The safety of our students when working in an online environment is a high priority. We ensure student personal details, including username, passwords are kept private. What iPads/Devices are the students allowed to bring to the BYO program? The school has researched the pros and cons of the different devices/Apple iPads available and have determined that the new iPad models provides a stable, durable and common platform for Students. Through having a common platform, the school can facilitate tech support and bulk updating of OS and apps. The school has a minimum specification of an iPad Air 2. Do the students need to do anything to make the iPad work at the school? Yes. There are a number of guides that step a student through setting up their iPad ready for school and joining the School filtered WIFI once at school. You can find these guides on the school website. Students require the abilities to be resilient as they build their skill base for the ever changing employment environment. But just as important as the inner strength required to cope with societal employment changes and challenges, are characteristics that are seen by many as some of the most important employment skills.

Desirable characteristics that come up in just about any employment survey is the ability to be creative and the ability to solve problems. ICTs enables our students to be creative and solve problems in contexts that are impossible without a suitable ICT device.

Some of the characteristics desired by employers in an economy dominated by digital tools is the ability to develop creative innovative ICT solutions and resources.

Our BYO iPad program is designed to further enhance our curriculum by enabling teachers to modify and redefine learning activities. Aviation HS has already significantly invested in our teachers’ professional learning as part of the Computers for Teachers Program and iPad Program.

Accordingly, our teachers are in a strong position to take their learnings and experiences from the 1 to 1 Laptop Program to further develop curricula supported by iPads.
