What I Learned from “Kumon”

Hi, everyone. I’m a 15-year-old boy who likes

English. I like English now because I can

understand it well. But I didn’t like English when I

started English. Because I couldn’t understand

what many words meant at first.

I joined “Kumon” and started to learn English by my mother’s

recommendation. Kumon is a place that we can study English, math and

Japanese like a cram school. I go to Kumon twice a week after school.

I came to like English because I learned many English words at Kumon.

Also, I learned English structure through this experience. If my mother

didn’t recommend that I go to Kumon, I still wouldn’t understand English.

I’m confident in English now so I want to study English hard, and I want to

thank my mother.

「くもん」で学んだこと

みなさんこんにちは。僕は英語が好きな１５歳男子です。僕は今英語が好きです。なぜならそ

れをよく理解することができるからです。でも僕が英語を始めたときは英語が好きではありませ

んでした。なぜなら言葉の意味を理解することができなかったからです。

僕はお母さんの勧めで「くもん」に入り、英語を学び始めました。くもんは英語や数学、国語

を勉強することができる塾のような場所です。僕は週に２回放課後にくもんに通っています。

僕はくもんでたくさん英語を学び、英語を好きになりました。また、この経験によって英文の

構造について学びました。もし母がくもんに行くように勧めてくれなかったら、僕はまだ英語を

理解できないままでした。僕は今英語が得意なので、これからも頑張って勉強したいです。そし

て母に感謝したいです。

Hobbies and Memories and Treasures

Hi, everyone. I’m a fifteen-year-old boy living in Japan. I like to play the

piano and I’ve played it for eleven years.

I’ve played the piano at my school festival, graduation ceremony and so

on. At first, it wasn’t easy for me because there were very hard things during

the practices. For example, when I played for the school choir, I was told by

a certain senior, “It isn’t easy to sing because the rhythm of your piano

playing is too slow.” At the time, I was really angry. But, l understood why

they felt it was too slow. There was a time difference from me to them. The

piano I used was a little far away. So, I practiced very hard with my music

teacher and homeroom teacher also helped me. Also the other teachers

encouraged me many times, too. I was really happy. Since then I have

succeeded in many events.

These experiences have changed me. I want to tell you “Don’t be by

yourself. There are people who can help you all around. So don’t give up.”

The experiences I had are my treasures. I will use these experiences to my

advantage. I will try to do even more when I become a high school student.

趣味と思い出と宝物

僕は，ピアノを１１年間続けてきた日本在住１５歳男子です。僕は，文化祭や卒業式などでた

くさん弾く経験をさせてもらいました。

はじめは，練習する中で大変なことがあり，簡単なことではありませんでした。例えば，全校

合唱を合わせるときに，先輩から「伴奏が遅いから歌いにくい」と文句を言われました。それを

聞いて僕はとてもイライラしました。でも僕はなぜそんなに遅く感じるか分かっていました。み

んなが歌う位置とピアノがある位置がすこし離れていて，時差があったからです。僕は仕方がな

いと思いました。

それから，音楽の先生と一生懸命練習したり，時には担任の先生が僕に声をかけて助けてくれ

たりしました。また他の先生方がたくさん褒めてくれました。とてもうれしかったです。だから

僕は全ての行事で成功できたと思います。

この経験が僕を変えてくれました。僕が今，伝えたいことは，「一人だけじゃない。周りにはた

くさん助けてくれる人がいるから，あきらめないで。」です。

この経験は僕の宝物です。僕は，これらの経験を生かして，高校生になっても，いろんなチャ

レンジをしていこうと思います。

The Important Experience of Sports Day

Hi, everyone. I’m a 15-year-old boy who likes playing sports. In our

school there are nine grades. In the ninth grade, we have to become a leader

at school events, and bring together all the students.

My school has a sport day every September. Its practice is very hard.

I became one the leaders for the sport day. It wasn’t easy to work as a leader

because I’m not good at speaking in front of a lot of people. However, my

friends encouraged me to try it. “You can do it!” they said. These words

have changed me.

I also became a leader for “kumitaisou”, a coordinated group gymnastics,

student executive committee. When I talked in front of a lot of people, I got

very nervous. But I did my best; I had a strong will to succeed. I learned

from this experience that I could do anything if I had a strong will.

I want to keep this experience in mind and try various things in high

school.

運動会の大事な体験

みなさんこんにちは。僕はスポーツをするのが好きな男子です。僕たちの学校には小学１年生

から中学３年生の人たちがいます。中学３年生になると学校行事でリーダーになって全校生徒を

まとめなくてはなりません。

その学校行事の１つに毎年９月に運動会があります。それは練習がとてもしんどいです。僕は

運動会のリーダーの１人になりました。僕が実行委員をするのは簡単ではありませんでした。な

ぜなら僕は大勢の人の前で話すのが得意ではないからです。しかし友達が僕に「やってみれば。

君ならできるよ。」といってくれました。その言葉は僕が変わるきっかけになりました。

僕はその言葉から組体操の実行委員となりました。大勢の人の前で話すときはとても緊張しま

した。でも僕は絶対に成功させるという強い意志をもって頑張りました。僕はこの経験からどん

なときでも強い意志をもって取り組めばなんとかなることを学びました。

僕はこの経験を大事にして高校でいろんなことに挑戦していきたいです。

Thank You to My Parents

I’m a 15-year-old boy who loves baseball. I stared playing baseball when

I was 10 years old. As a junior high school student, I joined a strong baseball

club team, because I wanted to play baseball in a high level team in high

school.

There were only players who were bigger and better than me. I was so

small that it wasn’t easy to regularly make the team. Everyone was doing

their best at voluntary weekend practice, though I was skipping. But the

words of the coach at the training camp when I was in 7th grade changed me.

“Change. You’re not grateful for your parents.” With these words I realized

that I should change the way I play baseball.

From there I began to practice harder to make my parents happy. It wasn’t

easy. I was often upset and sometimes shed tears. But I didn’t give up for

my parents. As a result, I was able to regularly make the team.

This is the greatest experience that I’ve had junior high school student life.

The coach told me the value of my parents. I want everyone to learn the

value of their parents.

親への感謝

野球が大好きな１５歳の少年です。１０歳の時に野球を始め，中学生になり強い野球のクラブ

チームに入りました。野球の強い高校で野球をしたかったからです。

そのチームは，私よりも大きくて優れた選手ばかりいました。私はとても小さかったので，レ

ギュラーになるのは簡単ではありませんでした。なのに平日の自主練習でみんな頑張っていたの

に，ぼくはさぼっていました。しかし私が中学１年生のときに合宿での監督の言葉は私を変えま

した。 「変われ。親への感謝の気持ちがない。」これらの言葉で，私は野球のプレー方法を変え

る必要があることに気付きました。

そこから私は両親を幸せにするために一生懸命練習し始

めました。簡単ではありませんでした。私は嫌になり，時々

涙を流しました。しかし，私は両親のために諦めませんで

した。その結果，私はレギュラーをとることができました。

これは，私が中学生時代に経験した最高の経験です。監

督は私に両親の大切さを教えてくれました。みんなに両親

の大切さを知ってもらいたいです。

An Important Lesson

Hi everyone. I’m a 15 year boy who likes to watch

English football.

I came to love the Premier League team Liverpool

in the summer of third grade. I came to love their

aggressive soccer, like their attacking, defending, long passes and more.

I was living very passively before. But during an interview with Jürgen

Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, a reporter once said “why are you sticking to

aggressive football?” Klopp said, ”Is it fun to live passively?” When I heard

this, I also wanted to have a fun and exciting life. So I decided to live a more

active life.

I don’t know how to do it. But I want to try and continue.

I want you to leave enjoy your life too.

皆さんこんにちは、私はイングランドサッカーを見るのが好きな１５歳の男子です。

私は３年生の夏にプレミアリーグのリヴァプールが好きになりました。私は彼らの攻撃、ディ

フェンス、ロングパスなどが好きになりました。

私は以前とても消極的でした。でもクロップのインタビューで記者が「なぜ攻撃的なサッカー

にこだわるのか。」と言いました。クロップは「消極多的に生きて楽しいかい。」といいました。

私はそれを聞いたとき、私も楽しく刺激的な人生を送りたいと思いました。なので私は積極的な

人生を送ろうと思いました。

私はこれがどうつながるかわからないけどこの生き方を続けていこうと思いました。

私はみんなにもこの生き方をしてほしいと思います。

Becoming “Marron”

Hi, everyone! I’m a lively 15-year-old boy. I’m

good at standing out in public. It all began when

I performed in outdoor activities, when I was in

5th grade of elementary school. From there, I

performed more actively in public and become

noticeable. That changed me. I learned “the fun of throwing away

embarrassment”.

At this year’s school festival, I dressed up as a girl and performed “Kisaragi

Marron”. I was the most nervous I’ve ever been in my entire life.

Honestly, I didn’t want to do “Kisaragi Marron”. But, embracing the

embarrassment and not giving in can make people smile. I love the

smile that comes from it.

みなさん、こんにちは！僕は元気な１５歳男子です。僕は人前で目立つことが得意

です。それは、小学５年生の時の野外活動で芸をしたことから始まりました。 そこ

から、人前で積極的に芸をして、目立つことをするようになりました。それが僕を変

えてくれました。「恥ずかしさを捨てることの楽しさ」を教えてくれました。

今年の文化祭では、女装をして「如月マロン」をしました。今までの中で一番緊張

しました。正直、「如月マロン」をやりたくなかったです。でも、恥ずかしさを捨て

て目立つことは誰かを笑顔にします。僕は、そ

こから得る笑顔が大好きです。

Things Baseball has Taught Me

I start to play baseball when I was nine years old. And I joined the baseball

club in Tadanoumi Junior High School.

When I was in first grade, there were only ten students in my club. So I

was able to come to many of the matches. But I practiced it only a little

because there were only a small number of people. When I was in second

grade I was able to take part in matches regularly, too.

After my upperclassmen lost their last match, there were only five

students in the club. So I could not play any matches. But I became active in

a joint team with another school, Yoshina Gakuen. From then, I started to

practice baseball hard.

Eventually my last match came and we lost the first game. If we lost the

match, the club would have to retire. During the match, I was entrusted to

be the starting pitcher. But I lost one point in one time table. We lost the

match with a score of 1-0. I was sad and full of regret. But I think now that

my pitching was the best I’d ever done.

I learned that it is important for me to not give up and to keep trying all the

way to the end.

野球から学んだこと

私は 9歳の時に野球を始めました。そして，忠海中学校の野

球部に入部しました。私が 1 年生のとき，僕のクラブには 10

人の学生しかいませんでした。だから私は多くの試合に参加で

きました。人数が少なかったので少ししか練習しませんでした。

2年生のときも，僕は当たり前に試合をすることができました。

先輩たちが最後の試合に敗れた後，僕のクラブには生徒が 5

人しかいなくなりました。だから僕は試合をすることができま

せんでした。しかし，私は吉名学園との合同チームとして活動することができるようになりまし

た。それから，野球を一生懸命練習し始めました。

ついに僕の最後の試合が来て，1試合目に負けてしまいました。次の試合に負けた場合，クラブ

を引退しなければなりませんでした。試合では，僕は先発投手を任せられました。しかし，僕は

１回表で 1 点を失いました。そして，1-0 で試合に負けました。後悔し，悲しくなりました。し

かし，そのピッチングは他のどのピッチングよりも最高だったと思います。

僕は野球から諦めずに最後までやり続けることが大切だということを学びました。

My Basketball Life

Hello, everyone, I’m a 15-year-old boy who likes to exercise. I especially

love basketball and baseball.

I met basketball when I was in elementary school. But my junior high

school doesn’t have a basketball club. Also, there was no place to practice

basketball near my house, and I looked for it for one long time. In the end,

I found a good place to practice. It was a ground in a high school. I walked

there after school every day, and practiced very hard. I wanted to be good

player, so I studied about good players on YouTube. And I practiced with my

friends a lot. I played basketball with my seniors every day, too. The seniors

often lost even though they faced off well. I was so frustrated, that I taught

my seniors and learned to confront them. Thanks to my seniors, I became

better and I loved basketball more. I want everyone to know the fun of

basketball.

私のバスケ生活

みなさん，こんにちは。 私は運動するのが好きな１５歳の男の子です。 特にバスケットボー

ルと野球が大好きです。

小学校の時にバスケットボールに出会いました。でも，僕の中学校にはバスケ部がなく，また

近くにバスケットボールをする場所がありませんでした。僕はその場所を探し続け，ついに見つ

けました。それは高校のグランドでした。ぼくは毎日放課後にそこまで歩いていき，一生懸命練

習しました。YouTube で動画を見たり，友達と一緒にたくさんのバスケットボールをしたりしま

した。 先輩と対決したときによく負けて 私はとても悔しかったので，先輩に教えてもらったり，

対決したりしていろんなことを学びました。 先輩のおかげで私は上手くなり，バスケットボール

がもっと好きになりました。 みんなにバスケットボールの楽しさを知ってほしいです。

My Sister’s Word

Hello everyone, I’m a 15-year-old boy who likes

English. When I was in elementary school, I

started to study English for the first time at a

private supplementary school. When I was in

junior high school, I took part in the English speech contest every year.

When I was a 7th grade, I was shaking and getting nervous as the

competition approached.

At that time, my sister said, ”It’s okay. If you believe in yourself, you can

do it.” These simple words saved me. I have since won a prize every year,

and we got the group prize, too.

I would like to decide my own future by using the

idea of “believing in myself”.

姉の言葉

みなさんこんにちは。僕は英語が好きな１５歳男子です。小学生の時に，塾で英語をはじめま

した。僕は中学生のときに，３年間英語暗唱大会に出ました。１年生の頃，大会が近づくにつれ

て，段々緊張してきて噛むようになりました。

そこへ，僕の姉が「大丈夫じゃけん。取れると思えば賞取れるけん。」と言われました。この

おおざっぱな言葉が僕を救ってくれました。そこから，僕は３年間賞を取り，団体賞も取れるよ

うになりました。

僕はこの「自分を信じてやればできる」精神でこれからの人生を決めていきたいと思います。

Changing Myself

Hi, everyone. I am a 14-year-old boy. I was the student council secretary.

I was not good at talking in public or taking action for

myself. But being in the student council changed me.

In the student council, I often talked in public and

experienced many things. For example, I thanked a guest instructor on

behalf of the students and created a PowerPoint for a student meeting. As I

repeated that, I was no longer bad at speaking out in public. And I came to

think that I needed to be more helpful to others and set a good example for

students. This is the greatest experience that I’ve had in my school life.

What I was not good at until now, I could change with just one trigger. It

is very important to take on challenges. I will try various things in the future.

僕が変われたこと

こんにちは。僕は１４歳男子です。僕は生徒会書記でした。それは僕を変えてくれました。僕

は人前で話をしたり，行動を起こしたりするのが苦手でした。

しかし，生徒会に入ったことが僕を変えてくれました。生徒会では人前に出ることが多く，い

ろいろなことを体験しました。生徒を代表して講師の方に挨拶をしたり，生徒集会で使うパワー

ポイントを作ったりしました。それを繰り返しているうちに人前に出てしゃべることが苦手では

なくなりました。そして，人の役に立ち，人の見本にならなければいけないと思うようになりま

した。これが僕の学校生活であったもっともすばらしい経験です。

今まで苦手だったことが一つのきっかけで変わることがあります。何かに挑戦してみることは

とても大切です。これからもいろんなことに挑戦していきたいと思います。

A Big Change in My Life

I’m a 15-year-old boy living in Takehara City.

My school has “Career Start Week” every year.

Career Start Week is an event in Takehara where

all junior high school students have a five-day

work experience. I went to the fire department.

There I went to see and experience firefighting work. For example,

life-saving training and fire-fighting training.

The words of a fireman changed me, ’’The weight of life is incalculable.”

From then, I began to think about the people in my life.

Before the work experience, I took life for granted, but I came to change

my way of thinking.

In the future, I would like to be able to alert people and help, if someone

is in trouble if there is a disaster, etc.

人生の大きな変わり目

私は竹原市に住んでいる１５歳の男子です。私の学校ではキャリアスタートウィイクーを行っ

ています。キャリアスタートウィークとは，竹原市では中学２年生の生徒全員が５日間職場体験

をするものです。私は消防署に行きました。

そこでは，消防の仕事を見学したり体験したりします。例えば，人命救助の訓練や消火訓練な

どです。

そこでの消防士の人の言葉が私を変えてくれました「命の重さは，はかりしれないものだ」。職

場体験前は生きているのはあたりまえだと思っていたけど，

それは奇跡だと思うようになりました。

将米は，災害などで困っている人がいたら支援したいです。

What I learned from helping each other

Hi, everyone. I’m a 15-year-old boy living in Hiroshima. I hate sports, but

I have one I do like. It is swimming.

Before, I hated water. In particular, getting into cold water in school class

was a pain. The teachers were holding my head down, so I was upset. At that

time my mother recommended I go to a swimming school.

When I first heard her say this, I cried. “I don’t want to go because I‘m

scared of water.” But when I was small, my mother told me “the more things

you’re good at, the more helpful you will be in the future”. Believing in that,

I entered the swimming school. However, there were times when we

struggled, and had problems with our relationship.

助け合いから学んだこと

みなさんこんにちは，わたしは広島県に住んでいる 15 歳の少年です。僕はスポーツが嫌い

ですが，唯一好きな種目があります。それは，水泳です。ぼくは，水が嫌いでした。特に学校の

授業で，冷たい水に入ることがとても苦痛でした。先生たちに頭を抑えられたりするから自分が

どんどん嫌になっていきました。そんな時に母に勧められたのがスイミングスクールに通うこと

です。

僕は，最初その話を聞いて「水が怖いから行きたくない。」と泣き叫びました。でも母は，小さ

い頃の僕に，「得意なことが増えると，将来とっても役立つよ」と言ってくれました。その言葉を

信じて僕は，水泳に入りました。しかし，大きな壁にぶつかったことも人間関係に問題が起こる

こともありました。そんなときも母は手を差し伸べてくれました。そのおかげでどんどんタイム

が上がりました。ぼくの母のように，手を差し伸べてくれる人はたくさんいると思います。高校

に行っても，友達をたくさん作って助け合いながら生活しようと思います。

My Best Sport: Table Tennis

Hello, I am a 15-year-old girl who loves table tennis. When l was in the

first grade of junior high school, l couldn’t hit the ball or use the tables in

practice, because there were not enough table tennis tables in school.

All of us first graders had a special training every day. For example, we

would practice swinging a racket 1000 times and dash up the slope in front

of my school. I tried to do my best in basic training, so I could play table

tennis someday.

When l moved into second grade, l could finally play tennis on the tables.

I was glad l worked hard for one year. And now, I understand that basic

training is very important.

Looking at the place where the first graders are doing basic training, it

seems nostalgic. It’s hard for me knowing that that I will have to say

goodbye to the first graders, but l want them to do their best.

My experience will help me in my high school days.

卓球は私の一番のスポーツだ

こんにちは私は卓球が好きな１５歳の女子です。私が 1 年生の頃は台でボールを打つ事ができ

ませんでした。なぜなら私の学校には卓球台が十分な数がなかったからです。

私達 1年生には毎日特別な基礎練習がありました。例えば，素振りを 1000回したり外で坂ダッ

シュしたりなどです。私は卓球をするために，基礎練習を一生懸命がんばりました。

そして 2 年生になってやっと卓球台を使って練習することができました 1 年間がんばってよか

ったと思いました。そして今ではあの基礎練習がとても大切だと分かります。

今 1 年生が素振りしている所を見ると懐かしく思います。1 年生とあと少しでお別れするのは

つらいけど頑張ってほしいです。私のここでの経験は高校生活で私を助けてくれるでしょう。

Events That Changed Me!

I’m a 15-year-old girl. Before, I was not good at standing in public. But

some things changed me. I have two reasons.

The first is school transfer. I changed to this school because of my

parent’s job. Because I transferred to this school for family circumstances, I

was anxious. But people from my old school encouraged me. I became a

little confident. I moved to this school. I was very anxious when I introduced

myself, as I knew nobody. Also, I was scared because everyone was looking

at me. After my self-introduction, some people talked to me. I was very

happy. So I could build up my confidence.

The second thing is Math class and English class. This school splits some

classes. I was relaxed because there are only a

few people in class. So I could raise my hand and

answer questions.

I’m going to become a high school student. I

want to be able to talk for myself and be more

encouraging.

私を変えてくれた出来事

私は１５歳の女子です。私は以前，人前に立つことが苦手でした。でも，あることが私を変え

てくれました。理由は２つあります。

１つ目は転校です。私は小学５年生まで違う学校に通っていました。でも親の事情でこの学校

に転校することになりました。私はその時とても不安でした。けれど前の学校の人たちが私を励

ましてくれました。私は少し自信をつけることができました。そしてこの学校に転校してきまし

た。最初に自己紹介をするとき，私は周りに知っている人がいないので，とても不安でした。ま

た，みんな私を見ているので少し怖かったです。自己紹介の後，何人かの人が話しかけてくれま

した。私はとてもうれしかったです。だからまた自信をつけることができました。

２つ目は，中学３年生での数学と英語の授業です。この学校では２つに分かれてその授業を

受けます。人数が少ないので，緊張がとけます。だから，自分から手を挙げて発表することがで

きるようになりました。

私は高校生になる予定です。今度は私が自分から話しかけて，励

ましてあげることができる存在になりたいです。

School days

Hi, I’m a 15 -year-old girl who likes “Vocaloid songs”.

Vocaloid is a general term for singing synthesis

technology developed by Yamaha. The songs

synthesized from these digital voices are called

“Vocaloid songs”. There are various kinds of songs.

Even though the singing characters are the same, the

people who make the songs are different. In other words, the genre and

style of the song changes depending on the person.

But at my school, few people like Vocaloid songs, and most people like Johnny’s. In

other words, I can’t talk to others. That’s why I listened to Johnny’s song to get along.

But I can’t enjoy them.

At that time, I came across one song. It was a song called “Superhero” created by a

Vocaloid artist called Guiano. One of the lyrics of the song was like this:

“You are whatever you say, so stay this way”

I was thrilled. You don’t have to like what others like. I

am my own person. From there I stopped forcing myself.

That eased my mind.

You don’t have to try to fit in. Everyone has likes and

dislikes. Let’s respect the differences . I think that is more

fun.

学校での思い出

私はボーカロイド曲が好きな１５歳の女子です。

ボーカロイドとは，ヤマハが開発した音声合成技術及びその応用製品の総称です。また，それ

を合成した「歌声」を特定のキャラクターの歌声として作成した楽曲をボーカロイド曲と呼びま

す。その曲にはいろいろあります。なぜなら歌っているキャラクターが同じでも歌を作っている

人は違うからです。つまりその人によって曲のジャンルは変わっていきます。

しかし，私の学校ではボーカロイド曲が好きな人が少なく，ジャニーズが好きな人がほとんど

です。つまり私とは話が合いません。だから話を合わせようとジャニーズの曲を聴きました。し

かし，何処か好きになれません。私は悩みました。

そんな時一つの曲に出会いました。「ぐいあの」という人が作った「スーパーヒーロー」という

曲です。その曲の歌詞の一つにこうあります。

「あなたは何を言われてもあなただ。だからそのままでいて」

ドキッとしました。そうだ好きにならなくていいのだ。私は私だ，と思いました。そこから私

は無理に合わせなくなりました。そうすることで，心が楽になりました。

皆さん，無理に合わせようとしなくていいのです。好き嫌いは人の数だけあります。お互いの

違いを尊重しましょう。その方が素晴らしく楽しいと思います。

My Favorite Subject

Hi, everyone. I’m a 15–year–old girl who likes English.

I joined an English conversation class when I was 5 years old. At first, I

didn’t like to go to the English conversation class. Because I was shy. So I

couldn’t talk other people. But while I was going to the English conversation

class, I had fun. I enjoyed going to it every week.

But then I moved into the 2nd year of junior high school. I couldn’t study

then. And I stopped going to the English conversation class. I came to hate

English because my English test scores were bad.

Then my mother introduced me to cram school. I decided to go to cram

school when I became a junior high school 3rd year. The cram school

teacher has changed me. She taught me how to study so that I can

understand more. My test scores went up, thanks to her. My grades are also

better. I understand how to study now.

I now study harder than before. I hate less subjects. And so I have come

to like English. I have tried more challenges since I came to like English. I

passed the Level 3 Eiken English test, and I

passed the pre-Level 2 Eiken recently! It is thanks

to that teacher. She taught me every day. I think

English will be useful in future. So I study English.

私の好きな教科

ました。最初は人見知りでほかの人と話せなかったので英会話教室に行くことが嫌でした。でも，

行っている内にすごく楽しくなって毎週行くのが楽しみでした。しかし中学２年生になって勉強

が難しくなり，好きだった英語でもテストの点が悪くて嫌いになりました。そして，英会話教室

もやめてしまいました。そんな私を見て母が塾を紹介してくれました。私はその塾に中学３年生

になっていき始めました。その塾の先生が私を変えてくれました。先生は私にわかりやすく勉強

を教えてくれました。先生のおかげでテストの点も上がりました。私は前より勉強するようにな

りました。嫌いな教科も減りました。そして，嫌いになってしまった英語も得意になり好きにな

りました。英語を好きになって挑戦も増えました。私は中学３年

生の最初に英検３級に合格して先日，英検準２級にも合格しまし

た。それは，塾や学校の先生のおかげです。先生は毎日私に勉強

を教えてくれました。英語は将来に役立つと思います。だから私

は英語を勉強します。

My Piano Teacher

Hi, everyone. I am a 15-year-old girl.

I have been learning piano for 9 years. In April, it will be my 10th year of

piano.

I remember playing the piano twice, during my second grade of junior

high school.

The first was summer vacation. I had my teacher give me piano lessons

every day during the summer vacation.

The second experience was me playing accompaniment for my seniors’

graduation ceremony.

The duration of the practice was very short and I was very anxious. My

piano teacher taught me sometimes strictly and sometimes gently.

The teacher changed me. The teacher told me that I should do my best

without giving up on what I want to do.

I was regrettable. The teacher said “If you take the accompaniment, do your

best until the end”. The reason was that I was making many mistakes when

playing.

I intend to remember what I was taught by my teacher.

私のピアノの先生

私は 15 歳の女子です。私は，ピアノを 9 年間ずっと習っています。4 月になったら 10 年目に

なります。私は，中学 2 年生の時に学校で 2 回ピアノを弾いたことが心に残っています。1 回目

のピアノの伴奏の時は，夏休みでした。私は夏休みの間ずっと先生には毎日のようにピアノのレ

ッスンをしてもらいました。2 回目のピアノの伴奏の時は，先輩の卒業式の時に弾きました。練

習の時間は，私には短く感じとても不安でした。でもピアノの先生が厳しく時に優しく教えてく

ださいました。先生は私を変えました。先生は私に，自分がすると決めたことを最後まで諦めず

頑張ることを教えて下さいました。私はピアノの練習するときに先生に伴奏を引き受けたなら最

後までしなさいと言われとても悔しかったです。理由は，私がピアノを弾くとき何回も間違えて

しまうので私は自分が情けないなと思うからです。私は先生から教えていただいたことを守って

いこうと思います。

If You Overcome A Difficult Thing, You Can Be Satisfied

I’m a fifteen-year-old girl learning calligraphy.

I started to learn it as recommended by my

mother when I was a first-grade student. My

mother brought me to calligraphy class because I

wasn’t good at writing characters then. Since

that time, I started to study it twice a month.

When I started learning, I was looking forward to going to lessons,

because my calligraphy ability was improving. But as I moved up the school

grades, and proficiency increased, it was difficult for me to get better at

calligraphy. So I wasn’t enjoying calligraphy. At that time, I was a member of

the volleyball club, so if a lesson and a match day overlapped, I couldn’t go

to the game. So, I just went to the lesson.

But when I became a seventh grade student, one friend of mine started to

learn in the same class. He had been learning in another class from the same

teacher. He became a seventh grade student too, and he was also busy from

club activities. So he joined my class that was held on Saturday. Then, he

and I were at the same level. I didn’t want to lose to him. So from then, I

began to take each lesson seriously.

I changed the most when I did test to move up to the top level. Until then,

I often chose best work of calligraphy without writing a lot. But from that

time, I practiced it in the lesson, and I practiced it at home even more. I

practiced many times until I was satisfied with my work. When I couldn’t

write well, I felt disheartened. But by practicing many times, I became to be

able to write a little better. And, at last, I could

produce a work that I could be satisfied with.

I know if we overcome a hard thing, we can be

satisfied. If I have difficult things in the future, I

think I should try my best and overcome them.

辛いことを乗り越えれば，自分で納得できる

こんにちは，みなさん。私は小学１年生から習字を習っています。母が，当時私は字が汚かったので，習字教室に連れていきました。最初は習字の級が上がるので楽しかったのですが，学年が上がるにつれて，難しくなっていきました。当時バレーボールチームに入っていたので，行けない日もありました。その頃はただ教室に行くだけでした。

中学生になった時，同じ先生に習っていた友達が同じクラスに来ました。その人とは同じ段でした。負けたくないという思いで，真剣に練習するようになりました。

私が１番変わったのは最高段をとる試験の時です。教室だけでなく，家でも練習しました。最初は納得のいくものができなかったけど，練習するうちに少しずつうまくなりました。最後には，納得できる作品が書けました。

私はこのことから，苦しいことを乗り越えれば，自分の納得のいくことができると学びました。もし将来，つらいことがあっても，頑張って乗り越えようと思います。

Challenging

Hello, everyone.

I’m a 15-year-old girl living in Japan. I go to Tadanoumi Junior High

School.

In winter of my second grade, I became the head of the health committee.

The work of the head of the health committee involves meeting with the

committee once a month and deciding what to announce in front of the

students. But I was very bad at speaking in public.

The chairperson of committee is also a member of the organization called

the Student Council Expansion on Executive. There was also a lot of work

behind the scenes at school events. When I believed I was contributing to

the school, my job was rewarding and fun. From then, I was not bad at

speaking in public.

When I was in the third grade, I worked with my friends for sports day,

doing original choreography for the Soran dance and teaching the junior

students. I went out to oversee the dancing and gave directions. Again, the

work of the student council was helpful.

I learned the pleasure of helping in the student executive office. Also, I

can speak in public. I want to be a high school student so I can take

advantage of this.

私は日本に住んでいる１５歳の女子です。私は忠海中学校に行っています。２年生の冬，私は

保健委員長になりました。保健委員長の仕事は，毎月１回の委員会と，その委員会で決まったこ

とを全校生徒の前で発表することでした。私は人の前に出て喋ることがとても苦手でした。委員

長は生徒会拡大執行部という機関に入っていました。学校行事での裏方の仕事もたくさんありま

した。学校に貢献していると思うと，生徒会の仕事にやりがいを感じ，楽しくなってきました。

そうすると，人前で話すことも苦手ではなくなってきました。それから私は，３年生の時運動会

で友達とソーランの係をしました。オリジナルの振り付けを考えて下級生に教えたり前に出て踊

っているところを見て指示を出したりしました。ここでも生徒会の仕事が役に立ちました。私は

執行部に入ったことでやりがいを感じる楽しさを学びました。また，人前で話せるようになりま

した。私は高校生になってこのことを生かしたことができるようにしていきたいです。

What I Learned From Work Experience

I’m a 15-year-old girl living in Takehara.

I had a work experience when I was in the second

grade of junior high school. I went Toa Nursery School.

Getting along with the kids has never been easy for

me.

Playing and talking with the kids changed me. A

nursery school is very popular for the students at my school. A lot of

students want to go there. In this experience I learned how to treat the

children. I did not know how to communicate with children at first, but I

came to talk with them a lot.

So this is the most wonderful experience of my school life.

I learned that things are possible if I work hard without giving up when I

think it’s too difficult. I want to continue communicating. I think that if I

become a high school student, I will encounter many

people and study harder. But, I want to try my best by

remembering the communication method I learned

from this experience.

職場体験で学んだこと

私は竹原市に住んでいる 15 歳の女子です。私は中学 2 年生の時に職場体験で保育園に行きま

した。子供たちと上手くやっていくことは私にとつて簡単なことではありませんでした。でも子

供たちと遊んだり話したりすることが私を変えてくれたのです。

保育園は私の学校では生徒にとても人気がありたくさんの生徒がそこへ行きたがります。私は

志望理由をアピールして保育園に行くことができました。

この体験では子供たちにどうやって接してあげるのかを学びます。はじめは上手くいかなかっ

たけど，たくさん話していくうちにできるようになりました。これは私の学校生活の中であった

最もすばらしい経験です。はじめは難しいと思うこともあきらめずに取り組めばできるようにな

ることを学びました。

私は高校生になってもコミュニケーションをとっていきたいです。高校生になればたくさんの

人に出会い勉強も難しくなると思います。でもこの経験で学んだコミュニケーションの取り方を

思い出して頑張っていきたいです。

The Greatest Team

Hello. I’m a fifteen-year-old girl.

I have been playing volleyball since I was in

elementary school.

When I was invited by a senior to junior high

school, I joined the volleyball club. Though I was in

the first year of junior high school, I was playing as

a regular with third graders. So I learned a lot. For

example, there were 15 members in 1st 2nd and 3rd grade. Playing as one

of the six of the team, and to play as well as possible are important. Also,

when I was in second grade, my seniors retired and I was elected director,

where I felt the greatness of my seniors.

Volleyball is a team game, so all the people on the court and the people

on the bench have to try for the same goal. So it was difficult to hear

everyone’s opinions and come to a conclusion that everyone could

understand.

From that, I think that I have gained the ability to lead as a team captain

and have grown much more than when I was in elementary school or first

grade in junior high school.

I also want to play volleyball in high school, so I want to make use of

what I learned in junior high school, remember my efforts, and do my best

to achieve high goals.

偉大なチーム

こんにちは。私は１５歳の女子です。

私は、小学校の時からバレーボールをしています。そして中学に入学したとき，先輩に誘われ

てバレー部に入りました。私は 1 年生でしたがレギュラーになって先輩たちと一緒に試合に出ま

した。そこでたくさん学ぶことがありました。それは、1 年生から 3 年生みんなが一つになって

精いっぱいプレーすることの大切さです。また先輩たちが引退して，私はキャプテンに選ばれま

した。バレーボールはチームプレイです。コートにいる人もベンチにいる人もみんなが一つの目

標に向かってやらなければなりません。私はみんなの意見を聞きみんなが納得がいくようにまと

めるのがとても大変でした。でも、チームのキャプテンとし

てリードしていく力がつき，とても成長したと思います。

私は、高校でもバレーボールをするので、中学校で学んだ

ことを生かして，努力を忘れず、高い目標を達成することが

できるように頑張りたいと思います。

Those Who Changed Me

Hi, everyone. I’m a 15-year-old girl in junior high school. I didn’t study

seriously when I was in the seventh and eighth grade. And I didn’t have very

good test scores. So I lost my confidence and was about to give up. I was

worried about going to a good high school.

But my parents and teachers gave me positive words and didn’t give up

on me. One day, when my test score was not good, l was nervous thinking

my parents would get angry. But my mother gently told me to try to get

good scores in the next test. After hearing those words, I decided to do my

best for those who supported me. I could hand in my homework to the

teacher. And my test scores were very high. I came to like English too.

From this experience, I knew that if I tried, I could get a good result. And

when I become a high school student, I have decided to study so as not to

regret anything.

私を変えてくれた人達

こんにちは、皆さん。私は中学生の１５歳の女の子

です。

中学一年生と中学二年生のころ私はまじめに勉強をし

ていませんでした。そして、テストの点数もあまり良く

ありませんでした。だから私は自信を無くしあきらめかけていました。

良い高校に行けるかも不安でした。

でも、両親や先生方はあきらめずに前向きな言葉をかけてくれました。

ある日、テストの点数が良くなかったとき私は母に怒られると思ってドキドキしていました。

でも母は，「次のテストで頑張ろうね。」とやさしく言ってくれました。その言葉聞いて、私を支

えてくれる人達のために頑張ろうと思いました。

中学３年生になってからは宿題を出すようになりま

した。そして、テストの点数もとても上がりました。英

語も好きになれました。この経験から努力をすれば結果

に出ることが分かりました。

私は高校生になってもきちんと勉強して後悔しない

ようにしようと思いました。
