What have you learned from your audience feedback? From the beginning of the project we needed feedback on the constructing of our band and we luckily had very good feedback from our class and teachers and then when we later on showed it on social networking websites, we have also had very good feedback too. From the beginning of the project we required feedback so that we achieved in portraying and representing our band in the right way. For example, we created surveys which asked outsiders for their opinions on the name of the band, the genre, having three girls in a band, the typography and also their own opinions on any improvements. This was firstly very helpful for us as we have feedback that implied that they thought an all girl band was quite different which is what we wanted. We got a mixture of feedback on the type of genre of our band which was helpful as we worked on making our band appear more indie. We also got feedback from our class when we firstly started the project for our band, this was also very helpful too as we were able to get a more detailed opinion from our peers on their views on our first ideas. We found that people really liked the name of our band (which was very important), and that the indie vibe was also portrayed to them too which was also a very important! They liked the plot of the music video and also the record label for our band too. However people did not think that our logo portrayed our genre well enough which was something that we worked on and overall helped us as it was changed and represented our genre better. The bands image was also something that was commented on, later on we put a lot of effort into researching into the image of indie bands and this was something that really helped us as we realised how important the bands image was in order to portray our genre. When we done our animatics we showed this to our class and then got feedback from the class again, this was essential as we needed to have feedback on our initial music video which was one of the most important parts. People commented on the genre being portrayed well, which was very feedback. Also, how we used Goodwin’s theory within it too, and also the conventions too, which was again very helpful

Also, how we used Goodwin’s theory within it too, and also the conventions too, which was again very helpful as we researched into making sure we used all of this. People commented how we did not use ‘the notion of looking’ however this was because it was difficult to see in the animatics but we did include this in the music video which was easier to recognise. This feedback was really helpful for us as we needed to make sure that our music video made sense and also that our genre was indicated within it, which it was.

When we first presented our music video to the class again this was a very important part as we needed to make sure that we applied all the corrections that were mentioned in order to improve on this. This feedback was one of the most important as it made us change and edit a lot of our music video which benefited us in the long run. For example, a lot of people commented on how we repeated the same shots throughout the music video which make it quite repetitive and somewhat boring and it slowed down the overall pace. From this we shot more singing and included more shots and we was so much happier with how it looked in the end, so this was very helpful for us. Adding to this, the overall pace of the music video was said to be quite slow and needed to be quicker by editing which was something that we worked really hard on doing and again from listening to this

feedback and making the changes the overall pace now is a lot quicker and looks a lot better from the first draft. Comments were made about the colouring of our shots as they differed a lot throughout and we also agreed with this. From this we edited all of our shots to make them all a similar colour which was a lot warmer and initially made it look a lot more ‘indie’ and we benefited from this. Having said this, we did get a lot of positive feedback from this and people commented on how they liked the handheld feel and the homemade look which made it look a lot more indie. Also, from including ‘selfie’ shots people really liked this as it made us seem really fun which was beneficial as we extended on this point and included this more and made the video seem more fun and diverse.

Lastly, we all put our music video on social networking websites and sent the video around to friends and family to get their opinions on it. This was obviously very helpful as we got an outsiders perspective on our music video and as they didn’t know the genre or background of the video this was really important to find out. We all got really positive feedback from outside perspectives where they commented on a lot of the important aspects. For example we had comments on how fun the overall video looked which was really important to portray as this was a convention of our genre. There were comments on how professional it looked which was very important too. People commented on the ‘selfie’ shots that were included which they liked as it made it feel a lot more personal which is something that we wanted to portray and by people commenting on this it was really helpful for us. There were comments on the different location shots too which was something that was also important to present too.

Overall the feedback process from the beginning to the end of our project was essential as we needed outsider’s opinions on the construction of our band and the music video. I felt that we all learned a lot from this too as it helped us in constructing a band that portrayed a specific genre. The feedback taught us on how to improve on this and it helped us in doing so.
