Dear Lawrence Road friends and family,
The Lawrence Road Church is excited to announce that we are expanding our online presence with the stated goal
of inviting more folks into the Spirit-filled ministry taking place at 1039 Lawrence Road in Lawrence Township,
New Jersey.
Our world is changing. Sundays in America are no longer a day of the week given over exclusively to church and
rest. With so many of us living in families where everyone works, goes to school, participates in important outside
activities, and generally is 125% on the go, we believe that it is our job as faith leaders to get outside the church
walls and meet you where you are. Don’t get me wrong—come to church and sit in the pews, drink coffee in
Fellowship Hall, and participate in service and education just as often as you possibly can. Your physical presence
with other faithful Christians is a critical piece in your growth as a follower of Jesus. We need each other. I need
you and you need me.
But when you can’t get over to 1039 Lawrence Road in the flesh, when, even if you want to get there, your physical
condition doesn’t permit you to get out as much as you used to, there are other options for you to participate in the
life of the Lawrence Road Church, in worship, study, education, and fellowship.
1. The Lawrence Road Church as an active, up-to-date website: www.tlrchurch.org. There you will find
our monthly calendar and a weekly update on coming activities. You can access the pastor’s sermons
through the website (uploaded before church on Sunday mornings.) You’ll also find a link to the pastor’s
blog. Access this and you can reflect along with me on some of the issues facing us today as Christians—
you can comment, too, when you think I’m brilliant or way off base or you just have something to add to
the conversation. There’s a link to the church’s monthly newsletter, too, a great place to keep up with all
the happenings at the church and beyond.
2. You can also donate to the church that you love through PayPal. Go to our website homepage—the
first page you will see when you go to www.tlrchurch.org—and click on the PayPal button and support the
mission and ministry of Jesus Christ at the Lawrence Road Church. Your financial help is critical to this
work.
3. The Lawrence Road Church has two Facebook accounts. If you don’t have one of your own, get a
Facebook account if for no other reason than keeping in touch with your church family. If you don’t know
how to get on Facebook, call me (609-882-7909) or email me ([email protected]) and we’ll get you
set up. Facebook gets a fair amount of bad press, but it is a powerful tool for ministry. Let’s use it that way
and reclaim this online giant for Jesus Christ.
a. Our primary Facebook account is “Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.” Friend us and
you’ll find church life photos, event announcements, devotional resources, and links to community
events that you may find interesting.
b. Our secondary Facebook account is “Lawrence Road.” This is where you can watch our
worship services—live on your computer or mobile device, 10am every Sunday morning. Or
worship at YOUR convenience when YOU have time to sit down and connect. Send us a friend
request and we’ll hook you up.
4. Online Bible Study: Close to 100 folks participated in our Facebook Lenten Study of the Gospel according
to John. If you don’t have a Facebook account, and you’d like to participate in our next online study—get a
Facebook account. Beginning July 1, we will start a four week study of Paul’s letter to the church at
Philippi. I’m excited to read through Philippians with all of you!
My mother used to say: “There’s more than one way to skin a cat.” I could never think of any reason to skin a cat in
the first place, but I understand what she was getting at. There’s more than one way for us to connect as God’s
people gathered through the church that sits on the corner of Lawrence Road and Meadowbrook Avenue in the
heart of Lawrence Township, New Jersey. Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances, I hope you will join us
in church and online. Together, we will grow in Jesus Christ.
See you soon! Pastor Nina

Piano Lecture Recital
Hero’s Journey: A Beethoven Odyssey in Three Acts
Saturday, June 10, 4:00 PM (Free and Open to the Public, Donations Accepted)
Elissa Miller- Kay writes:
“I’m quite excited about this program. The three sonatas contrast with and relate to each other
beautifully. In terms of spirit, the program moves from the humor and joy (Op. 10, No. 2) to suffering
(Op. 57) to transcendence (Op. 110) The close relationship between the sonatas’ tonal centers adds to
the sense that the program is one continuous journey.”
About Elissa Miller-Kay
Award-winning Canadian pianist Dr. Elissa Miller-Kay has performed in Canada, the United States,
and Thailand. As a concerto soloist, she has appeared with the Mississauga Symphony, the Oakville
Symphony, the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra, the York Symphony, and the Greater Toronto
Philharmonic. Recital engagements include performances at Steinway Hall, Weill Recital Hall at
Carnegie Hall, and Bohemian National Hall in New York City; the Beethoven Club in Memphis;
Markham Theater in Markham, Ontario; and the Goethe Institute in Bangkok, Thailand. Her
performance of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata, Op. 110 in a master class with Seymour Bernstein was
featured in the documentary Seymour: An Introduction, directed by Ethan Hawke.

LOG & YOUTH FELLOWSHIP
For those unfamiliar with LOG, it is an acronym which stands for Love of God!
Our LOG#10 RETREAT WEEKEND IS COMING UP SOON, the first weekend in June, the 2nd
, 3rd
,
and 4th
! We have about 20 high schoolers and young adults who will be serving as team. What we need
are participants to come to our retreat and it is open to any high school student! So please, we are
asking everyone to invite a teenager to attend the LOG#10 Retreat. The cost of the retreat is $60.00.
However, if cost might in any way be a barrier to coming, we have scholarship help available. Please
just contact Debbie Nixon.
Also, a student doesn’t need to be participating in our regular Wednesday gatherings to attend a LOG
Retreat. All they have to know is it is a peer-led youth weekend that focuses on affirmation, sharing,
caring and the love of God – an experience in intentional Christian community which involves youth
from a number of Christian denominations (or none at all). It is a chance to learn about and reflect
upon the basics of the Christian faith.
Our co-leaders, Carly Barnada and Kayla Kendrick, in addition to finishing up their senior year at
Ewing HS are hard at work helping to lead both on Wednesday evenings and preparing for TEAM and
RETREAT weekends. They picked the LOG#10 song, THE RIVER with the theme: Encounter God
and you will leave changed!
To get ready for our retreat we are having a TEAM WEEKEND Friday May 5th
through Saturday
afternoon May 6th
. On Saturday morning, we will be part of the LRPC family participating in the
NAMI MERCER Walk over at ETS to raise funds for this vital organization that helps many, including
lots of teenagers, with mental illness issues such as depression and anxiety.
Our pictures (below) show some of us who joined the LRPC choir to sing God’s praises on Easter
Sunday. Thanks to everyone who paid us high complements for a resurrection experience! The other
picture is of Dylan Watt and Brian Trevor who helped at the Nursery School’s Spring Fling. Thank
you also to Aluen Tomat-Kelly for working hard serving food to the hungry crowds!
