WHAT DOES GOD SAY ABOUT DRUNKENNESS?

“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived

Liquor does not cure any problem but will give you more misery and sorrow.

“They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not

thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent,

and stingeth like an adder” Proverbs 23:30-32

And drinking can be comforting, they say. Have a problem, have a drink, end of problem……or is it the beginning of a problem?

Alcohol is not your friend, as what true friend treats you this way.

“Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow

strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” Isaiah 5:11

“Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard

and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags”

Proverbs 23:20-21

“My Church drinks wine” so they tell us, to which I say, time to get a new Church.

“But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of

the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way

through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment”

Isaiah 28:7

“Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong

drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant” Isaiah 56:12

If you are not focused on God and have not the mind of Christ. You will get involved with sin and if alcohol is your

sin of choice,

booze will effect your eyes and judgment of what you see.

Ever wondered why bars are so dark? Well, that nice looking babe that has been smiling at you from the end of the bar, if you look closely she

has a 5-0-clock shadow and a size 15 shoe…..and her name….. Well, it’s Pat.

“….and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest

his deeds should be reproved”

Now what does the New Testament say about booze? As people will defend their god of alcohol more than Christians will

contend for the faith.

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor

effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor

covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners,

shall not inherit the kingdom of God” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Paul continued, as verse 11 reads that if booze was in your life it

should be a sin of the past NOT something we do as someone saved, FOR HEAVENS SAKE put down that bottle!!

“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God”

This is confirmed with what he wrote to the Ephesians;

“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light”

Ephesians 5:8

Again this should be something done in our B.C. days, if this sin was once a part of your life and not within our current testimony. How can your name be

among those that ‘overcome’ by the blood of the lamb when alcohol is a necessity or how will you ‘endure to the end’ only if you have a drink in hand?

Paul continues his warning of sin to the Church of Galatia, and note that he was writing to the those that believed as this Epistle was not written to the

entire city, nor was it a ‘whosoever.” (Gal. 5:19-21)

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,

variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which

I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom

of God”

Your drunk scholar on the sidewalk will say that Jesus turned water into wine. Oh IF only I would have a dime for every time I heard that one after 3 decades of arguing with sinners from coast to coast. As they say that for one

reason, to justify their sin. And in doing so they will drag a Holy Jesus, the Son of God down to their level.

In John chapter two we find Jesus and Hs disciples at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, where He filled six waterpots of stone with water and turned that water in wine. I have challenged many that IF they could turn a bottle of

water into wine, I will drink it. To date it has not happened as most are not drinking wine and we are not at a wedding.

Many of us will argue that the wine Jesus used in Cana was not fermented, therefore it was grape juice. Well I have a verse that can be used to prove

that very point, without knowing the original language but allowing the Bible to interpret the Bible, by using the Bible.

Here are two verses where the grape juice is wine and even mentioned as “new wine” just by using the Bible, no Hebrew needed to understand the

Bible.

“And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes: And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them

into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand” Genesis 40:10-11

So here we have an example where ripe grapes were used or pressed into Pharaoh’s cup as a drink without being fermented into alcohol, or strong

drink.

“Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I

may not destroy them all” Isaiah 65:8

Isaiah again points out that new wine can be found in the cluster of grapes and is considered real wine without being fermented. An example can be a better

definition to certain words. Wine can be grape juice in the Bible.

When Eve saw the fruit from the tree it was pleasant to the eyes, as sin appears to be desirable, delicious and pleasing to the eye:

It is just clean fun, they say….oh really?

Oh how cute this mother-of-the-year is as she trains up her children in

a way and when that child grows up, he will not depart and soon we will bump into him on the sidewalk and there will be issues.

“But who am I hurting with a few drinks. It feels so good and no one gets hurt”….so they say…..

Once again the Bible is true: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the

ways of death”
