Vocational Context:Since September you have been volunteering in a health and social care setting of your choice. It is now necessary for you to reflect on the services provided your chosen establishment. In this scenario you have been appointed as your workplace’s equal opportunities officer and have been asked to put together a presentation and information booklet to help train staff at your workplace. This will form part of the establishment’s ongoing CPD programme, regarding equality, diversity, rights and anti-discriminatory practice. You will be required to critically evaluate how your chosen provider promotes equality, diversity and rights in line with current UK legislation. You will be required to make realistic suggestions on how the issues identified may be addressed.

Produce an information booklet for your chosen placement In your booklet, you should include an explanation of how national initiatives promote anti-discriminatory. (P4)

Assignment 2: National initiatives and anti-discriminatory practice (P4, P5, M2, M3, D1 and D2)

• Extend your booklet to include an assessment of the influence of a recent national policy initiative promoting anti-discriminatory practice.(M2)

You need to identify, describe and explain one recent initiative, that is a Law or Regulation (see table 2.2 p72/73) that is relevant to your chosen setting. You need to provide detailed reasons as to how and why your chosen initiative provides this piece of anti-discriminatory practice. Consider in detail the different aspects of the initiative, identifying which aspect is most important and relevant to your service users and the staff that are employed there.

•To extend your work to a distinction you need to add an evaluation of the success of the recent initiative in promoting anti-discriminatory practice. Evaluation requires you to critically consider how successful the initiative has been at promoting equality for all at your placement. At distinction level you are required to present clear reasoned arguments based on referenced research in a vocational context. (D1)

For the merit level task, you must include a discussion of the difficulties that may arise when implementing anti-discriminatory practice in your chosen health and social care setting. You should then consider how and why these difficulties may differ in different settings. You may wish to consider such issues as the role of the CVB, the multicultural nature of the service users/providers, the effect of prejudice and unfair discrimination, barriers to access, making complaints and enforcing rights. (M3)

For the distinction level task you must include a justification of ways of overcoming difficulties that may arise when implementing anti-discriminatory practices in health and social care settings. You should also consider how making complaints, enforcing rights, the legal context of care and organisational policies/procedures can promote equality, diversity and rights in both your chosen setting and in a range of other Health & Social Care providers. (D2)
