What do folks have in common?
Yes, they are all TV detectives!
And YOU get to be a History Detective.
First, you’ve got your facts Straight!
The Facts Who is involved? What is the issue? What does each side feel about the
issue? Where is this taking place? When is this taking place? What happened?
Taking Notesfor Secondary Sources
Motive, MO, Consequences
Why? Helps you get at context/motive.
How gets you to modus operandi—the process by which something got done. Changing attitudes, norms, ways of doing things, laws. Etc.
What difference did it make? Gets you to consequences and significance in history. Because this change happened, what else changed or happened?
Don’t forget the other part of detective work—look for leads!
Leads
As you read, look for other subtopics related to your research. Follow those leads and think of more questions to ask.
Why, How, What Difference does it make?
Make more cards as you find the answers!
Good Luck!
I know you can do it!
