Polymer notes are printed on a unique plastic film manufactured solely for the printing of banknotes and is not commercially available. This material is non-fibrous and non-porous and polymer notes have a distinctly different feel to paper notes. The key properties of polymer notes are: They do not absorb water or other liquids The structure of the notes does not easily break down and the notes are difficult to tear They perform well in a full range of climatic conditions. What are the benefits of polymer notes? Experience in countries that have introduced polymer notes suggests that they have the following benefits: Durability – they last a long time Security – polymer-specific security features are easy to see and identify Cleanliness – they do not absorb dirt or moisture Environmental-friendliness – they are recyclable. Do polymer notes need to be handled differently? Polymer notes can essentially be handled the same as paper notes. As with paper notes, new notes sometimes stick together. This attraction will diminish when the notes are put into circulation. When opening a packet of new notes, you can separate the notes in the following ways: Can polymer notes be folded? Polymer notes can be folded. But avoid applying excessive pressure, which may damage the notes. To unfold the notes, lay them on a flat surface and apply slight pressure for a short time. Is it difficult to hand-count polymer notes? Not at all. As with paper notes, it is best to count polymer notes using the areas with easily identified tactile features, such as the numeral 10 and the text “GOVERNMENT OF THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION” on the front. What should I do if something is spilt on a polymer note? Wipe the note with a cloth. What should I do if I think that a note or coin may be counterfeit? Retain the note or coin and take it to the nearest police station. Alternatively, call the Commercial Crime Bureau at 2860 5012 or 2860 5013. commercially available. This material is non-brous and

non-porous and polymer notes have a distinctly dierent

feel to paper notes.

The key properties of polymer notes are:

• They do not absorb water or other liquids

• The structure of the notes does not easily break down

and the notes are dicult to tear

• They perform well in a full range of climatic conditions.

What are the benets of polymer notes?

Experience in countries that have introduced polymer notes

suggests that they have the following benets:

• Durability – they last a long time

see and identify

• Cleanliness – they do not absorb dirt or moisture

• Environmental-friendliness – they are recyclable.

Do polymer notes need to be handled dierently?

Polymer notes can essentially be handled the same as paper

notes. As with paper notes, new notes sometimes stick

together. This attraction will diminish when the notes are

put into circulation. When opening a packet of new notes,

you can separate the notes in the following ways:

Can polymer notes be folded?

Polymer notes can be folded. But avoid applying excessive

pressure, which may damage the notes. To unfold the notes,

lay them on a at surface and apply slight pressure for a

short time.

Is it dicult to hand-count polymer notes?

Not at all. As with paper notes, it is best to count polymer

notes using the areas with easily identied tactile features,

such as the numeral 10 and the text “GOVERNMENT OF THE

HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION” on the

front.

What should I do if something is spilt on a polymer note?

Wipe the note with a cloth.

What should I do if I think that a note or coin may be counterfeit?

Retain the note or coin and take it to the nearest police

station. Alternatively, call the Commercial Crime Bureau at

2860 5012 or 2860 5013.
