EASTER LAKE DETENTION BASIN IMPROVEMENTS
What are the Easter Lake Detention Basins?
What are the Issues?
What are the Improvements?
Detention BasinsDetention Basin WatershedEaster Lake Watershed
• Create deeper sediment capture areas (forebay) to improvewater quality and maintenance.
• Remove sediment and restore original pond depths.
• Steepen banks below the water to reduce algae.
• Provide taller grass buffer around the shoreline to reduce goosetraffic and filter stormwater.
• Work with the Easter Lake dredging project to further improvewater quality over the long-term!
• Shallow areas allow algaeto form which reduces waterquality.
• At 25% full, Basins needto be cleaned to improvesediment capture and waterquality.
• Basins not as effective atimproving Easter Lake waterquality as they could be.
BENEFITS• Capture sediment before it
flows into Easter Lake.• Detain stormwater and
reduce flows downstream.• Provide natural features for
neighborhood and regionaltrail system.
• Owned by City and Constructed 10-20 years ago.
• Detention Basins receive over 20% of EasterLake’s Watershed.
