Detention Basins Detention Basin Watershed Easter Lake Watershed Create deeper sediment capture areas (forebay) to improve water quality and maintenance. Remove sediment and restore original pond depths. Steepen banks below the water to reduce algae. Provide taller grass buffer around the shoreline to reduce goose traffic and filter stormwater. Work with the Easter Lake dredging project to further improve water quality over the long-term! Shallow areas allow algae to form which reduces water quality. At 25% full, Basins need to be cleaned to improve sediment capture and water quality. Basins not as effective at improving Easter Lake water quality as they could be. BENEFITS Capture sediment before it flows into Easter Lake. Detain stormwater and reduce flows downstream. Provide natural features for neighborhood and regional trail system. Owned by City and Constructed 10-20 years ago. Detention Basins receive over 20% of Easter Lake’s Watershed.
