The past twelve weeks since the Alpha Dinner have sped by

and tomorrow night marks the end of the current course. We

will be looking at the relevance of the Church in today’s world

It’s time for Operation Christmas Child shoe

boxes again!! They will be collected from the

parish office immediately after Labour

weekend in October, so there are two months

available to fill them! Boxes will be left in the

The Angel Tree Programme is run by

Prison Fellowship. The objective is

that the child(ren) of a parent in prison

receives a Christmas gift on behalf of

that parent. This ensures that the

child(ren) feels loved by their parent,

despite the circumstances. Each child

receives a gift to the value of $25.00 -

no more than this, because there may

be more than one child per family

involved. We Anglicans have been

given a list of 8 children to buy gifts

for. Please visit the parish office to

collect the gift card and prayer card

with the child’s name on, purchase the

gift, and return it unwrapped with the

gift card. Keep the prayer card for you

to pray for your child. The gifts have

Update re Amalgamation …. Following

the SGM in September re

Amalgamation you may have been

wondering what is happening. Various

conversations have been held to

develop better understanding of the

issues that may have contributed to

people voting as they did. Now the four

vestries, together with synod reps and

the clergy, will be meeting on 19

November for a time of fellowship,

prayer, and discussion. The intention is

that we will explore the questions that

we have, what steps might be taken

towards resolving them, and what

decisions we can make about what we

can do together now. Please pray for

the Spirit’s wisdom for us all.

Canon Ron Taylor died in Hamilton

last week. Ron and Barbara served

in Tanzania 1964 – 1974, in the

Parish of Arusha, then at the

University of Dar es Salaam. Ron

was the General Secretary of the NZ

Anglican Board of Missions from

1993 to 1998, though he remained

an ambassador for overseas mission

until his recent illness. Many

parishioners will remember Ron

with fondness – his small, bouncy,

ebullient nature and for the way he

would always have the congregation

St Peter’s Church – Parish of Upper Riccarton/Yaldhurst, Christchurch, has written to St. Peter’s Gonville to request financial assistance with their Church restoration project. St Peter’s is a heritage church, the oldest stone church in the city of Christchurch and was severely damaged in the 2010 & 2011 earthquakes. The St. Peter’s Vestry has asked that this appeal be considered by individuals across Whanganui. Vanuatu clothing appeal

A big "thank you" to all who contributed clothing to the appeal for Vanuatu. A packed carload of boxes and bags of clothing was delivered from Whangan

ui to Wellington late last year, and the plant fair proceeds made a significant contribution to shipping costs.

The organisers of the appeal report; "Tropical Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu brought major destruction for crops, buildings, and equipment. This included destruction of nearly 80% of the country’s rainwater harvesting structures. As a result, communities were badly affected–not only by the cyclone itself, but also by the subsequent drought following the

LIVESTREAM

Next week (27th September) we will be livestreaming our 10am service at Christ Church (to go live online and also to be shown on Shine TV the following Sunday). If we are at Level 2 we will have to restrict our attendance to 100, but not of course if we are at Level 1. Do come with joy, your Sunday best dress and passionate voices to worship God with those joining us through the wonder of technology. We are privileged to make worship accessible to those unable to make it, and to share the amazing news of Jesus in this way. Please arrive in plenty of time (9.45am suggestion) for us to start promptly at 10am.

Bible Society Fundraiser - July is Bible Month in NZ.

In this country it is easy for us to obtain a bible that we can read and understand and we are thankful for that. As a fund-raiser for the Bible Society, our local committee is suggesting a ‘Bible Tax’ on church members – a gold coin for every Bible you own. Clothing for Vanuatu. Vanuatu is still

struggling after last year’s

catastrophic Cyclone Pam. The church

there is appealing for donations of

clothes, primarily for children, youth,

and women. Cotton or Nylon or

cotton/synthetic mix – no wool

please. Please make sure the clothes

are clean and in good condition.

Mercy Mission Report: Thank you to all those who attended our Birthday Fund-raising Dinner at The Grand Hotel Whanganui making it such a memorable occasion both for me, my family and our Mercy Mission supporters. We are grateful to all those who gave generously towards the Rice-Field Appeal and Harbour Bridge Painting Raffle which was won by Peter Jamieson. We raised $1,785.00 from this occasion plus $2,840.00 from the painting making a total of $4,625.00 towards the Rice Fields. A big thank you to Neville at The Grand for his generosity in donating us the accommodation for out of town families and friends; this was a major part of the fund-raising. Frontline Faith The speaker at next week’s Combined Picnic Service at Bason Reserve will be Mike Burrows, from ‘Open Doors’, supporting persecuted Christians around the world.

Mike is John and Marian Anderson’s son in law and they would like to invite all interested to their home, 28 Peakes Road, next Saturday evening, 28th January, 6pm for a bring and share tea to meet Mike and their daughter Anne. This is an opportunity to hear more of what God is doing in some of the most difficult countries in the world to be a Christian and also to meet a young couple with a passion for overseas mission. This will also incorporate the February meeting of the Church Missionary Society.

Amalgamation - At the SGM on 26 February the four parishes voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposal to amalgamate. Castlecliff: In favour 18; Against 5 Gonville: In favour 10, Against 3 Eastern Wanganui: In favour 25, Against 0 Christ Church: In favour 78, Against 14

Last week the Diocesan Council agreed to the plan for amalgamation. The newly combined parish will come into existence on 24 April following an AGM on Sunday, 23 April at which our new vestry will be elected. Keep an eye out for further information leading up to that event over the coming weeks.

Foodbank Items Urgently Needed … Spaghetti, baked beans, creamed corn, tins of tuna/fish, tinned tomatoes, cooking oil (small bottles), toothpaste, pasta, rice, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, washing powder.

PARISH CAMP, 16-18th October @ Forest Lakes - This is going to be a great time for us as a parish to have a deepening time together of fun, worship and great food!!! We would love for everyone to join! Registrations are already coming in. You can do this via our Website or Facebook page or in paper form at the Parish office. We don't want finance to be a barrier to you coming, so please do not hesitate to let us know as we can offer financial support for anyone who needs it (see Billy/Caleb). We are also happy for people to pay in instalments. If you feel you would like to contribute to another person, we have made that possible too. All efforts will be made to ensure people can have the accommodation they need.
