Day by Day Itinerary

DAY 1Fly to Reykjavik. Transfer to Blue Lagoon

Fly to Reykjavik where on arrival take the Flybus to the Blue Lagoon, Icelands most famous attraction.

DAY 2 SuperJeep Golden Circle Tour

This guided SuperJeep Tour is a must for anyone that has not been to Iceland before. You will walk in the dramatic Pingvellir mini rift valleycreated by Tectonic plate movement, gaze at the thundering Gullfoss waterfall which can totally freeze in winter, and marvel at the Strokkur Geyser which erupts every 5 mins. If you are lucky and the weather conditions are right the guide sometimes take you up in theSuperJeep for a short drive actually on the Glacier.

Finally time allowing the guide will also add a visit to the stunning blue-green volcanic basalt lake Kerid, before your return to Reykjavik in thelate afternoon (Between 5-6pm depending upon the conditions) to overnight.

Please note the maximum number of passengers in the SuperJeep is 6 in order to give you a very personal and individual tour. This is insharp contrast to the coach tours that are available through other companies, or the very large SuperJeep Tours with 12 people in.

Snowmobiling as part of the Golden Circle Tour

For those of you looking for a bit more adventure there is the option to add on the optional extra of a 1 hour snowmobile thrilling ride over theLangjokull Glacier. You will share one snowmobile between two and you will have the chance to swop and change so you can both drive.Arctic overalls, thermal boots and gloves and Helmets are provided for the Snowmobiling, but please ensure you have a good warm baselayer on beneath as it is always colder on the Glacier. For the snowmobiling tour drivers need to present a valid driver’s licence.The minimumage for passengers is 10 years old.

This morning you will fly to Akureyri to pick up your hire car and drive to Husavik (1 hour) to start your whale watching experience.

On the way stop to see the dramatic Godafoss Waterfall which you can get right up close to to appreciate its power and beauty.

The charming town of Husavik is an authentic fishing town filled with colourful houses and a restaurant right on the harbour serving freshlocal seafood. We would recommend you visit the excellent Whale museum with its fascinating insights, many huge whale skeletons and gainan insight into the whale research in the area.

This afternoon venture out in a traditional oak fishing boat on a 3 hour trip in search of Humpback, Orcas, Blue and Minke Whales. All theskippers have over 10 years of whale searching under their belts and have an incredible 98% success rate since 1995!

The Whale Watching tours run through the day so you can choose a different time if you prefer. For example between June – mid August youcan take a very evocative evening Whale Watching 3hr trip under the Midnight Sun!

On all trips seafaring overalls are provided to keep you warm and dry. Hot chocolate, cinnamon rolls as well as the “Captains Privilege” areall on hand!

What our Husavik Whale Watching Tour was like

Return to your cottage and you may wish to wander along the little trails infront of your cottage towards the sea, or take a dip in the hot tubwhich is constantly fed by the geothermal stream and is beautifully warm!. This is a beautiful spot and we would recommend you open abottle of wine and sit on your private terrace and enjoy soaking up the magnificent view. For more information on the Husavik cabins

Whale Watching on Sail Boat

This is a unique 3 hr sailing tour on a gaff rigged traditional wooden schooner that combines whale watching, puffin bird watching and asailing adventure. On board you will experience the past by setting sails and assisting the skipper in helming.

A Sailing outfit will be lent to you to keep you warm and dry, as will the Hot chocolate, cinnamon rolls and the “captains privilege”!

Price per person: From £15 (Upgrade and instead of Standard Whale Watching tour). Available from 1st June -15th Sept

DAY 4 Visit Lake Myvatn, Hverir, Dimmuborgir, and the Krafla Caldera Area

Today we would also recommend you self drive to visit to the beautiful Lake Myvatn created 2300 years ago by a basaltic lava eruption andnow teeming with bird life. Geothermal activity abounds and fascinating lava shapes and lava pillars can be seen in all directions.

Dimmuborgir is a geologist heaven full of lava formed into many weird and wonderful shapes.

Krafla with its dramatic 800m high Caldera and 10km diameter should not be missed, and go and see the bubbling mud pools in Hverir. Infact the region abounds with natural wonders!

DAY 5Visit Dettifoss waterfall and Ásbyrgi Canyon, Fly Reykjavik

Today in your hire car self drive and explore some more of Northern Iceland’s stunning Nature. The area is littered with volcanic wonders.Particularly recommended is Dettifoss considered to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe, and the dramatic Asbyrgi Canyon.

Drive back to Akureyri, and take the last flight to Reykjavik to overnight.

Day 6Flight Home to the UK.

Early morning transfer to the airport for your flight home after your Whale Watching Break in Iceland

Hotel Reykjavik CentrumDuring its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found - now on display. Among thefinds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.
