    In Malaysia, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus DM in adults

    age 30 and above has increased from 8.3% in 1996 (NHMS II) to

    14.9% in 2006 (NHMS III).

    The prevalence of DM increased with increasing age, from2.0% in the 18-24 years age group to between 20.826.2%

    among the 5064 year age group.

    There was no gender difference observed

    Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) accounts for >95% of he local

    diabetic population
