PURPOSE: This Skit and Bible Story will teach the children that we should pray and ask God for help, especially when we encounter diffi cult problems.

MATERIALS NEEDED:1 laptop computer.

• Lead the children through the Opening Activity.

• Begin Worship Time.

Optional: Take a few moments to assign roles to some of the children for the upcoming service. Choose children to be song leaders, to take up the off ering, to pray for the off ering, to pass out materials, etc.

Note: Play “Company Intro Video and Video Game Testers Part One Video” chapter # 2.

TEACHERHmmm, Rom and Ram aren’t doing too well on this level, and that game type looks really challenging! We might be able to help them out, but fi rst things fi rst! Welcome back, my tour group friends! Welcome back to Power Up! I’m insert Teacher’s name and I’m ready to kick off our tour with our opening song. Everybody, on your feet!

Note: Play “Take Control Song Video and Code Segment One Video” chapter # 3.

Teacher leads the children in singing the song.

TEACHERNow this is one energetic tour group! (points at screen) And that’s our fi rst code segment of the day. During the last tour, the Game Boss sent us a bunch of these code segments. We collected them and put them all together to make one huge code. In the end, they formed a message that helped out Rom and Ram. And I bet this one will be the same. But we can’t fi gure it out with just one segment. We need more, which is why we’re going to take a game break and play a little “Up, Down, Left, Right!” It’s the

amazing video game we can all play together! So watch the screen and dodge the obstacles by jumping up, ducking down, or moving to the left or the right. Here we go!

Note: Play “Up, Down, Left, Right Video” chapter # 4 followed by “Code Segment Two Video” chapter # 5.

During “Up, Down, Left, Right” the Teacher will guide the kids through the game by watching the screen and jumping over obstacles, ducking under them, and dodging to the right and left of them.

TEACHERGreat gaming my gaming gamers! And just as I thought, there was a code segment attached at the end. That’s two code segments down! I think we might be halfway there. But before we look for any more code segments, let’s check back with Rom and Ram. Maybe they’ve already passed the level and have moved on. Raise your hand if you think they’ve already won the game. (allows children to respond) And raise your hand if you think they still need some help. (allows children to respond) Alright, let’s see how they’re doing.

Note: Play “Video Game Testers Part Two” chapter # 6.

TEACHERHmmmm, those two still really need our help. But where can we get more code segments? (thinks) Hmmmmm...the Game Boss taught us that whenever we’re stuck, we need to remember the basics. And for that, we’ll turn to Psalm 101 in the Bible. Psalm 101 contains the principles that this company was founded on. So if you have your Bibles, open them to Psalm 101.

Teacher reads through Psalm 101 with the children. If your children are old enough, you can have them read the passage out loud, or divide up the passage so diff erent children can read diff erent verses.

TEACHERIt’s always good to hear that passage, and I think I just fi gured something out! This passage is all about help. It talks about living life the right way, but early on in the passage, in verse two, we ask God for help. This passage is a prayer to God! I think we might be onto something with this idea of prayer and asking God for help. And I think the Game Boss can give us a little more information about prayer. (starts typing into laptop) I’ll contact her and see if she can steer us in the right direction.

Note: Play “Game Boss Video” chapter # 7.

TEACHERWow! We can pray any time, anywhere, and about anything! And I remember that the founder of Power Up taught on that story many years ago. (starts typing into laptop) Hopefully, the footage is still on fi le. Aha! Here it is. Watch this, everyone.

Optional: Before the Bible Story video, have the children race to look up the story. Give out a small prize to the child who looks it up fi rst. This week, the Bible Story is found in 1 Samuel 1.

Note: Play “Bible Story Video and Code Segment Three Video” chapter # 8.

Optional: After the Bible Story and the Code Segment, ask a few short questions: 1. Where was the Bible Story located? 2. What was the name of the woman in this story who prayed to God? 3. What was the name that Hannah gave to her son?

TEACHERThank you again, Boss! And that’s segment three of the code! I think we need one more, but that means we’re almost done! Now in the Bible Story, Hannah had a problem that she couldn’t solve on her own. And from time to time we’re going to have problems that we can’t handle on our own either. And in those moments, we can and should pray to God and ask for help. Now God wants us to work hard and do our best in everything, but He also wants us to pray to Him and ask for help when we face diffi cult situations. That’s very important for us to know, but we still need to fi nd the fi nal code segment. Now, the Game Boss has been helping us out and leaving us clues and hints. We know that we can ask God for help through prayer. And we know that we can pray to God any time, anywhere, and about anything. Remember, we have the whole Bible stored in our databases here at Power Up. (starts typing) Let’s enter the info we have already about prayer and see if there is a verse that can remind us to be prayerful. And the next code segment might be with that verse. Let’s see what the search comes up with.

Note: Play “Bible Verse Video” chapter # 9.

“The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD will answer my prayer.”

Psalm 6:9 (NLT)

Optional: Have the children recite the verse two or three times. Then assign specifi c words in the verse to specifi c children. Have them recite the verse again with each child only saying their assigned word. Repeat this until the rhythm is smooth. Or the teacher can use a conductor-style wand and point to specifi c children to say the next word in the verse.

TEACHERWow! This verse tells us that God not only hears our prayers, but also answers them! God might not always answer our prayers the way we expect or want, and sometimes we have to wait for an answer, but I love that this verse confi rms how important prayer is. God hears us. He will answer us. And that’s why we should be prayerful. (starts typing into laptop) And...yes, I think there is some more data attached to this Bible Verse. Putting it on screen now.

Note: Play “Code Segment Four Video” chapter # 10.

TEACHERIt’s the last code segment! And as soon as we get this decoded, we can help Rom and Ram with it. None of us have the necessary skills that it takes to break

a code like this one, but we’ve learned it’s okay to ask for help when we can’t solve a problem on our own. Now the Game Boss is great with codes. Let’s see if she can get this code broken down a little bit for us. (starts typing into laptop) I’m sending her the code right now.

Note: Play “Game Boss Code Video” chapter # 11.

Video ends with the scrambled code on screen.

TEACHERNow it’s our turn. The Game Boss has decoded most of it but I think we can handle the rest. We’ve been talking a lot about prayer today. That’s a really big hint for this code. Who thinks they know how to unscramble this coded message?

Teacher can have the children guess the answer or can simply unscramble the code and move on to the next video.

Note: Play “Unscrambled Code Video” chapter # 12.

TEACHERThat’s it! I Will Be Prayerful! Now I’ll send it to Rom and Ram and hopefully this will help them fi nish the level. (types into laptop)

Note: Play “Video Game Testers Part Three” chapter # 13.

TEACHERYes! We did it! We got the message to Rom and Ram and they were able to beat the level! Nice job, everybody! Now that Rom and Ram are off to the next level, let’s a take a few moments to go over that unscrambled code. I Will Be

Prayerful! I’m glad Rom and Ram got the message, but it’s a message for all of us, too. Let’s make that the Main Point of today’s tour and shout it with some motions so we all remember it.

The Teacher leads the children by fi rst demonstrating the Main Point with motions. These motions should be similar to cheerleader-type hand motions. The Teacher can make up the motions or have the children help come up with them. Once everyone has gone over the Main Point, have the children repeat it with motions two or three times.

Optional: Ask the children for one volunteer who will come up and help you lead the Main Point for the other children.

TEACHERGreat shouting, everyone. Now let’s do what our Main Point says and pray to God right now. Let’s thank Him for His Word and for always being there to hear and answer our prayers.

Teacher leads the children in prayer.

TEACHERAmen. You know, prayer is actually a form of worshiping God. We worship God

when we pray, read our Bibles, sing to Him, and when we give our off ering. We’ve already prayed and read our Bibles, so let’s spend time worshiping God through singing and through our Off ering Time. Everybody, please stand and sing.

Teacher leads the children in singing the song and then begins the off ering time.

Optional: Ask for some children to volunteer to come up and to lead the song with you.

TEACHERWe’re going to continue worshiping God through giving our tithes and off erings. Please bow your heads and pray with me as we prepare to give.

OFFERING

Note: Lead the children in prayer. If you want to, include elements of the lesson you are teaching today. For instance, today we are talking about prayer. You might say, “God, we know that when we pray to You, that You hear us and answer our prayers. Thank You, God, for loving us so much and for helping us. Amen.” Take up the off ering.

Optional: Have two children pass the container and take up the off ering. Then, have a child come up and close the off ering in prayer.

TEACHERThank you all for worshiping together! We’re going to learn some more, and maybe even play some games, in our Small Groups! [16] Have fun and learn a lot!

Note: If the children do not change rooms for the Small Group time, review the Main Point before you begin the activities. If the children do change rooms for the Small Group time, have the children review the Main Point while they exit. Also, encourage the children to exit the room while performing some sort of creative motion.

SMALL GROUPS

Teacher greets the children as they return from Small Groups.

TEACHERWelcome back! Today, we heard a lot of good information about asking God for help through prayer. But, let’s see how much of our lesson you can remember as you show us your gamer skills in our Live Action Video Games!

Note: For specifi c instructions on how to lead the children through this Review Game, you will need to print out “Review Game Lesson 2” from your Lesson Materials CD-ROM. Lead the children through the questions. Press “Play” when a child has given you the right answer.

TEACHERNow that was some great live action video game playing! And good job on those questions, too! Today, we saw two video game testers learn that it is okay to ask for help. We learned about a woman named Hannah who prayed and asked God for help. And, we decoded an important message that we should all remember. Let’s all say our Main Point together. I Will Be Prayerful! Great job! Remember that Main Point and come back next time to see what happens next here at Power Up!
