Activities of WG6 (Regional Demonstration Test)

・Started collaborative activities with local governments from 2009 with the approval of the Steering Committee. ・Set up a Osaka Demonstration Study Group to integrate the extensive activities.・Invited proposals for promoting hydrogen supply, dissemination and education activities, and approved proposals from Nikko (Nikko Hydrogen Energy Society Promoting Council) and Fukuoka (Hydrogen Energy Test and Research Center). ・Set up a Regional Demonstration Test WG to promote information exchange on activities, mutual understanding, and sharing of achievements collaborating with Osaka, Nikko and Fukuoka.

Objective: To build the foundation of a hydrogen society,essential for the dissemination of FCVs, Osaka is planningdemonstration tests with its two hydrogen stations through industry-academia-government collaboration, making full use of the characteristics and locational conditions of thehydrogen stations, activities to promote understanding and the multilateral use of the hydrogen stations.

Osaka Hydrogen Station (Osaka Gas Co., Ltd.)・First in Japan. Introduced hydrogen stations in

urban (commercial) areas and improved convenience. ・Introduced compact on-site natural gas reformer

hydrogen generator and demonstrated spacesaving, high efficient hydrogen supply.

・Built a control system which automatically storeshydrogen at high pressure to reduce management work.

Osaka FCV Promotion Council (Osaka prefectural government)

■Public relations activities

・Established on September 17th, 2003, by public and private organizationsrelated to the hydrogen and fuel cell areas in and around Osaka to carry out various activities to spread hydrogen energy and FCVs. ・Carry out various pioneering activities to spread hydrogen energy and FCV.

・While making use of the features of stations in the cities, promote awareness and understanding of hydrogen and fuel cells for the public visiting the stations. ・Number of visitors for May 2008 to December 2010 were 1159

Efforts to obtain official license plate number for lab FCV (Osaka Sangyo University)■Not built by an automobile manufacturer, but only FCV developed,

built and whose license will be acquired by one university. (Licensed to be applied in March 2011）

Reviews were started from 2008. Model need to be approved to drive on public roads. Currently carrying out various tests on remodeling frame, building test frame, shock absorption tests, control test and high pressure hydrogen tests, etc.

Summary of Activities of Osaka Demonstration Study Group

■In Osaka area,

•Through local industry-academia-government collaboration, the Osaka FCV Promotion Council was set up first in Osaka, the promotion system was established, and this served as the opportunity to expand JHFC locally.

•The multi-purpose utilization of hydrogen related to hydrogen supply systems and hydrogen stations demonstrated feasibility for establishing the markets for FC applied equipment and system and resulted in steady achievements.

・Activities to promote understanding enhanced awareness and understanding of hydrogen and fuel cells and contribute to building a hydrogen energy society.

■The Osaka area is one of the cities playing a core role in spreading FCVs, and it will strive to further efforts towards spreading hydrogen and fuel cell technologies through the strong collaboration between industry, academia and government.

○ Fukuoka Personnel Training Center for Hydrogen Energy, the only organization training hydrogen related personnel in Japan , offers courses in Fukuoka Prefecture. Until now, 654 persons have attended the courses. ○Offers training of personnel in the area of hydrogen with a curriculum using currently operating hydrogen stations and FCVs.

（３） Nikko seasonal tours using FCVs・Tour the severe winter climate of Nikkoto experience the potentials of the FCV.

2009 Held 5 times, participated by 12.Drive the Iroha slope in very cold winter at night.

2010 Planning to invite participants during the coldest time in winter

（４） Challenging CO2-free system・“Small-scale hydraulic power generating systems” to realize the CO2- free system

running FCVs by hydrogen from eletrolysis using natural energy has advantages such as low environment impact and low cost methods and structures. Government approval was actually taken, and the system demonstration was started.

2009 Negotiation with Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation andTourism and related parties, demonstrations inside factory.

2010 Rights to use river water were approved in August, passed official inspections in September→Started demonstrations on site

・ Regarding hydrogen stations in each region as JHFC-collaborative stations, and evaluated operation data within the JHFC Project.
