    programWhile welcoming to the participantsand local people in the program, Mr.Nisar A. Brohi, Director, Sangat De-velopment Foundation discussed in

    detail on the wetlands communitybased management programlaunched by Sangat with the supportof Indus for all program, WWF Paki-stan and Sindh Wildlife Department,Government of Sindh, for the reha-bilitation and sustainable manage-ment of wetlands complex in Deh

    The program was divided intothree segments, one wasspeeches and presentations ofthe experts on the importance ofthe wetlands and their conser-vation strategy, second was theoath taking ceremony of the Vil-lage Based Wetlands Protection

    Committees (VBWPCs) as wellas commitment seeking fromthe Local Stakeholders for thebiodiversity conservation atwetlands of Deh Akro-II andthird was the Folk Musical Eve-ning with local folk singers.

    On the eve of International Mother Language Day, 21st February 2010,

    Sangat Development Foundation with the support of Indus for All Pro-

    gram, WWF Pakistan organized cultural activity with indigenous peo-

    ple of the wetlands on Chhuchh wetland in Deh Akro-II. The cultural

    activity was An Evening with Local Folk Singers and Mch Kahchahri.

    He appealed to the local communityto understand the importance of thewetlands and their biodiversity andtake part in the protection and sustainable management efforts of wetlands.

    realize their importance and avoid othe over exploitation of the naturaresources of the wetlands of DehAkro-II.He offered his gratitudes to Sangaand WWF Pakistan celebrating

    Akro-II, Nawabshah.

    He said that there are multidimen-sional threats to the wetlandsbiodiversity, which re-quired sustainable ap-proach to deal withand bring backthe glamourand van-ity tothe

    wet-lands

    of DehAkro-II Nawabshah.The wetlands areunprotected thoughthey support rare,vulnerable and en-dangered wildlifespecies. The mainthreats to biodiversity are overgraz-ing on adjacent, use of poison for

    fishing, use of pesticides, herbicidesand inorganic fertilisers on agricul-tural land, water pollution, prolifera-tion of alien invasive species, hunt-ing, excessive collection of fuelwood, fodder as well as sell.

    He further said that it is good omento introduce community based wet-lands management project in DehAkro-II wetlands complex in order

    to encourage the local communitiesof the area to adopt the wetlandsand work for the biodiversity con-servation.

    He further said that with creatingawareness on the importance of thewetlands, their biodiversity and con-servation strategy, it is also impera-tive to develop the understanding,knowledge and skills of the localcommunity with regard to properlymanaging the wetlands.

    While speaking on the occasion, Mr.Muhammad Salih Billo, Senior Jour-nalist and Editor of Sindh GreenNewspaper said that it is dilemma of

    mother lan-guage day withthe local com-munity andpromoting theirlanguage andculture, whichwould indeeddevelop closercoordination of

    understandingamong thesestakeholders aswell as wouldbe helpful indevelopingjoint strategy toconserve thenatural re-sources of the

    wetlands onsustainable ba-sis.

    by the renowned Journalist Mr. Salih Billo.The all committee members of all respec-tive villages showed their full commitmentto work with sincerity and vaguer for thebiodiversity conservation of wetlands ofDeh Akro-II.

    With this, local stakeholders also madecommitment in writing on the bannerwhich was separately designed to get com-mitment from all stakeholders and indi-viduals interested to work for the biodiver-sity conservation and development of wet-
