1. Purpose

Procedure for filling and Transportation of bio-sludge from outlet of centrifuge M.1-2548 A/B to Geolinks incineration facility.

2. Preparation

The dump truck will be filled from the outlet of centrifuge M.1-2548 A/B i.e, from the location where the wet bagging is carried out. Therefore no modification is required at ETP for continues operation.

Individual involve in the dump truck filling operation should be inducted.

Dump truck should be inspected before being used.

Empty bags container will be remove after completion of trial period.

3. Scope of work/Operational Activity

The following is the scope of work to be done for sale handling and transportation of wet sludge.3.1 Detail of involving Equipment, Vehicles

2 Dump Truck will be used for filling and transportation of Bio-sludge. Equipment will be inspecting prior to use from Mechanical department.3.2Wet sludge filling activity in dump truck from the outlet of centrifuges M1-2548 A/B and dump truck replacement procedure

Driver will park the dump truck under the centrifuge nose. Dump truck will be park in rear position. Banks man will indicate to driver during the reverse time the dump truck will parked in horizontal shape under the both centrifuge hoses. After parking the dump truck on the designed place safely, the banks man will place wooden wedges around two tyres of dump truck so that it could not move. Now dump truck will be tape barricade. Than the driver will move to material gate till filling of dump truck. The volume of the dump truck is around 500cf.(10000 liters.) approximately 10 tes. Therefore approximately 3.5Hrs time is spirited to avoid any accidental overfilling and spillage. During the replacement of dump trucks backs man all see the centrifuge hoses weather sludge of not coming to avoid any spillage on the ground on the activity will be carried out when the sludge pump of centrifuge if off due to low hopper level. Banks man will check the level of wet sludge in sludge in dump truck after every 30 min. Banks man will use bamboo leader to reach at plate form for the visual inspection of wet sludge level in dump truck. Just before filling of the dump truck (required level of sludge) will inform to other dump truck driver to keep ready for replacement. Dump truck driver will move their dump truck from the parking location to weigh bridge. The empty dump truck will enter at filling point similarly.

Empty dump truck will be required at ETP maximum after every 4 hrs.

Empty dump truck will be parked for replacement with filled truck at ETP ground area.

3.3 Weighing of the dump truck from PPTA Weigh Bridge

Dump truck driver to provide his valid license and vehicle entry pass to security at material gate.

Security guard after verification of license and entry pass will intimate the Weighbridge operator.

Weighbridge operator will allow the entry of dump truck at Weighbridge keeping in view the traffic load of other chemical tankers.

Weighbridge operator will then note the dumps truck no hauliers name and first weight (tare weight) of empty dump truck. Tare weight will be taken before every round of dump truck.

Empty dump truck will move from material gate to parking area at ETP via Road-4/B/5.

After loading of sludge, dump truck will arrive at weighbridge via Road-B/4.

Weighbridge operator will then enter Gross weight (1st weight), Tare weight (2nd weight), truck registration No. of dump truck etc.

Weighbridge operator will then take print out (03 Nos.) of the entered information.

These print outs will be stamped (PPTA embossed stamp) and signed by offloading area operator and dump truck driver.

Original copy off print out will be provided to driver (for Geolinks record).

One carbon copy will be sent to material gate security through driver and third carbon copy will be retained by weighbridge operator for production record.

3.4 Transportation of Sludge to the Designated Incineration Facility

Inspected dump trucks should be used for transportation of wet sludge

Dump truck driver will check the dump truck tailgate seals before loading.

Driver and banks man will ensure all nut bouts are completely tight.

Geolinks while transporting the wet sludge on a public road through dump truck precautions must be taken driver must ensure that no leakage from the vehicle whilst in transit.

After filling of dump truck weighing must be required.

4. Communication and Training

All workers must be inducted and will be provided entry passes prior to join the task.

Procedural training must be conducted of all staff by Geolinks supervisor.

Yearly health monitoring of all engaged persons.

Tetanus vaccination of all persons engaged with bio sludge handling activity.

Fire extinguisher will be conducted by SSHE department.

First Aid training will be conducted by Health line PPTA emergency medical center.

Use of PPES and instructions.

1.Dump Truck driver will check the dump truck condition and decanting door before loading.

2.While transporting the wet sludge on a public road through dump truck, precautions must be taken supervisor must ensure that no leakage escapes from the vehicle whilst in transit.

Transportation Practice

1.Inspect and maintain up-and down-slope of specific routes of transportation. Route can be changed in case of any job like excavation on the route or any other abnormality. Special care should be taken.

2.Speed limit should be followed. (Recommended 25 km per hour)

3.Only trained and validated persons will be allowed driving.

4.Supervisor will ensure that activities are in accordance with procedures developed.

Over-the-Road Spill Response Procedures

A.Do not leave the scene of any spill even a small one until it is cleaned up.

B.Wet sludge spillage either on plant site or during transportation to incineration facility area can create wet, slick surfaces for road vehicles or can restrict road traffic flow and emergency services.

C.In case of such spillage, park the truck safely on the side of the road. Area should be barricaded and place sign or flares to divert traffic around the spill. Do not leave the spill un-attended unless it is necessary to leave temporarily in order to intimate the concerned supervisor about the spill

D.Drivers will intimate their supervisor or shift manager as soon as possible by phone or personally about the location and amount of Wet sludge spillage.

Action Taken

A.Supervisor or Shift Manager will visit the area where incident occurred and they will decide how spill can be handled.

B.Two people working with shovels can load a small spill into a bag. A large spill must be controlled after coordination between the supervisor and shift manager.

C.Wet sludge should be thoroughly removed to avoid any sort of residue. All spilled wet sludge must be immediately collected by the sped/small shovel using proper PPEs or be loaded into another appropriate transport vehicle depending upon the extent of spill.

D.If we sludge remains on the surface for a sufficient time that could be a source of potential contamination. Ground monitoring analysis will be done in order to assess the impact of sludge spillage and corrective actions to be taken accordingly.

Biological exposure hazards and emergency response instruction

Sludge Properties:

1)Activated sludge produced after treatment contains 0.8-1.0% w/w solids.

2)The activated sludge may contain pathogenic organisms and industrial chemical.

3)The activated sludge is usually non-flammable, but may produce flame.

4)Sludge contains gases like methane, hydrogen, and sulfide under anaerobic condition.

Health Hazards:

1)Physical contact may cause irritation to eyes and skin.

2)It can be harmful in case of ingestion and contact with open wounds.

3)It may produce poisonous and asphyxiate gases.

Fire Hazards:

This substance may if dry and may produce small quantity of explosive gas (methane) is storage.

Storage:

Should be stored in well-ventilated place.

Handling Precautions:

1.Cut and abrasions should be adequately covered prior to working with sludge.

2.Appropriate protective clothing including glove, overalls, boots etc., should be worn.

3.Hands and forearms should be washed with soap and water and nails scrubbed before taking meals.

4.Meals should not be consumed while working.

5.Smoking is prohibited in working area.

Emergency Response:

Spillage:

1.Appropriate PPEs (PVC Gloves, Helmet, LEP, Safety Shoes and proper overall) should be worn all the time while dealing with sludge.

2.Small spillage must be transferred to the bags and area should be cleaned immediately.

3.If the spillage is large enough that it becomes unsafe to handle dont expose your self and immediately inform the supervisor.

First Aid:

EYES:

Wash thoroughly with water for at least 10 minutes and immediately contact with doctor at site medical center for first aid.

SKIN:

Wash off thoroughly with water immediately contact with doctor at site medical center for first aid.

MOUTH:

Wash off thoroughly with water immediately contact with doctor at site medical center for first aid.
