LOCAL OPTION ELECTIONS

There were forty-four local option elections during the fiscal year ending August 31, 1979. Nine elections were called to legalize the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only; seven remained "Dry" and two became "Wet". Thirteen elections were called to legalize the sale of all alcoholic beverages for off- premi se consumption only; fi ve rema i ned "Dry", seven became "Wet" and one rema i ned "Wet". Ten e1 ect ions were called to legalize the sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages, one remained "Dry", five became "\-/eC, three remained "Wet" for the legal sale of beer only, and one remained "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages except mixed beverages. Two elections \"lere called to legalize the sale of all alcoholic beverages except mixed beverages; both areas became "Wet". Two elections were called to legalize the sale of mixed beverages; both areas became "Wet". One election was called to legalize the sale of all alcoholic beverages; this area remained "Dry". One election was called to legalize the sale of beer and wine; this area remained "Dry". Six elections were called to legalize the sale of beer for off-premise consumption only; three remained "Dry" and three became "Wet".

ARMSTRONG COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.4, Armstrong County, on July 7, 1979, voted 72 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption only" and 88 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption only." Justice Precinct No. 4 was "Dry" before the election was held and rema i ned "Dry".

BELL COUNTY

City of Belton, Bell County, on April 7, 1979, voted 727 "For the 1egal sal e of beer for off-premi se consumpt i on only" and 988 "Against the legal sale of beer for off-premise consumption only." Belton was "Dry" before the election was held and remained "Dry" •

BRAZORIA COUNTY

City of Alvin, Brazoria County, on December 9, 1978, voted 645 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages" and 671 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic

beverages including mixed beverages." Alvin was "Wet" for the legal sale of beer before the election was held and remained "Wet" for the legal sale of beer.

City of Freeport. Brazoria County, on September 23. 1978. voted 694 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages" and 642 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic bever­ages including mixed beverages." Freeport was "Dry" before the election was held and became "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages.

City of Lake Jackson. Brazoria County. on January 6. 1979, voted 1,703 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages" and 1,956 "Against the legal sale of all alco­holic beverages including mixed beverages." Lake Jackson was IIWet" for the legal sale of beer only before the election was held and remained "Wet" for the legal sale of beer only.

City of Oyster Creek, Brazoria County, on December 9, 1978. voted 80 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages" and 87 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic bever­ages i ncl ud i ng mi xed beverages." Oyster Creek was IlWet" for the legal sale of beer only before the election was held and remained "Wet" for the legal sale of beer only.

CAMP COUNTY

City of Rocky Mound. Camp County, on November 4, 1978. voted 37 IIFor the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages" and 4 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages." Rocky Mound was "Dry" before the election was held and became "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages.

Justice Precinct No.5, Chambers County, on December 9, 1978, voted 104 "For the legal sale of wine and beer for off-premise consumption only" and 161 "Against the legal sale of wine and beer for off-premise consumption only." Justice Precinct No.5 was "Dry" before the elect i on was he 1d and rema i ned "Dry".

CHILDRESS COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.5. Childress County. on December 18, 1978. voted 37 "For the legal sale of all alcohol ic beverages for off­prB11ise consLT.lption only" and 32 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise conslI1ption only." Justice Precinct No.5 was "Dry" before the election was held and became "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off­premise consumption only.

COOKE COUNTY

City of fol.uenster. Cooke County, on No .... ember 4, 1978, voted 162 "For the legal sale of all alcohol ic beverages except mixed bever­ages" and 112 "A\)ainst the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages except mixed beverages." Muenster was "Dry" before the election was held and became "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages except mixed beverages.

City of Muenster, Cooke County. on April 7. 1979. voted 153 "For the legal sale of all alcoho11c beverages including mixed bever­ages" and 193 "Against the legal sale of all alcohol ic beverages includ1ng nixed beverages." Muenster was "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcohol ic beverages except mixed beverages before the election was held and remained "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages except m1xed beverages.

City of Smiley, Gonzales County, on September 9, 1978, voted 5 "For the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumptio only" and 84 "Against the legal sale of beer and wine off-premise consumption only." Smiley was "Dry" before election was held and remained "Dry".

GRIMES COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.8, Grimes County, on December 9,1978, 48 "For the legal sale of wine and beer" and 55 "Against legal sale of wine and beer." Justice Precinct No.8 was before the election \'Ias held and remained "Dry".

HAMI LTON COUNTY

JOHNSON COUNTY

City of Venus, Johnson County, on October 24, 1978, voted 70 "For the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only" and 155 "Against the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only." Venus was "Dry" before the election was held and rema i ned "Dry".

KLEBERG COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.4, K1eberg County, on January 6, 1979, voted 124 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages" and 11 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages." Justice Precinct No.4 was "Wet" for the legal sale of beer for on-premise consumption and all alcohol ic beverages for off-premi se consumption only before the election was held and became "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages.

MADISON COUNTY

City of Madi sonvi 11 e, Mad i son Co unty, on December 7, 1978, voted 361 "For the 1ega1 sale fo all alcoholic beverages" and 716 "Against the legal sale of a11 a1coho1i c beverages." Madisonville was "Dry" before the election was held and remained "Dry" •

MAR ION COUNTY

Ci ty of Jefferson, Marion County, on January 9, 1979, voted 309 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption only" and 295 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption only." Jefferson was "Dry" before the election was held and became "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption only.

MATAGORDA COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.4, Matagorda County, on October 7, 1978, voted 177 "For the legal sale of mixed beverges" and 172 "Against the legal sale of mixed beverages." Justice Precinct No.4 Was partially "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages except mixed beverages before the election was held and became partially "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages and partially "Wet" for the legal sale of mixed beverages.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.4, Montgomery County, on October 21, 1978, voted 622 "For the legal sale of all alcohol ic beverages including mixed beverages" and 832 "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages." Justice Precinct No.4 was "Dry" before the election was held and remained "Dry".

PARKER COUNTY

City of Hudson Oaks, Parker County, on April 7, 1979, voted 41 "For the legal sale of beer for off-premise consumption only" and 104 "Against the legal sale of beer for off-premise consumption only." Hudson Oaks was "Dry" before the election was held and rema i ned "Dry".

POLK COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.1, Polk County, on May 5, 1979, voted 502 "For the legal sale of wine and beer for off-premise consumption only" and 640 "Against the legal sale of wine and beer for off­premise consumption only." Justice Precinct No.1 was "Dry" be­fore the election was held and remained "Dry".

TAYLOR COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.1, Taylor County, on June 17, 1978, voted 11,582, "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages" and 11,460 "Against the legal sale of all alco­holic beverages including mixed beverages." Justice Precinct No. 1 was partially "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic bever­ages for off-premise consumption only before the election was held and became totally "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages. This election was appealed, and on September 20, 1978, the Texas Supreme Court upheld the election.

VAL VERDE COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.4, Val Verde County, on May I, 1979, voted 17 "For the legal sale of all alcoholic beverges including mixed beverages" and a "Against the legal sale of all alcoholic bever­ages including mixed beverages." Justice Precinct No.4 was "Dry" before the election was held and became "Wet" for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages.

WALLER COUNTY

Justice Precinct No.4, Waller County, on October 7, 1978, voted 270 "For the legal sale of mixed beverages" and 102 "Against the legal sale of mixed beverges." Justice Precinct No.4 was "Wet"
