HUNNINGHAM CAROL SINGING A determined group of 7 carollers turned up on one of the most miserable nights that we have experienced recently. We got drenched and got through many ruined carol sheets but spirits remained high all round. Thank you to all of you who took part. I would also like to thank all those who contributed to our efforts on the evening and who welcomed us into their houses. At the end of the evening we raised £190 which was split between three charities. I will hopefully find a drier day this December and hope that many of you will join us again. Mark Hancock.

MONDAY CLUB. Many thanks to Wethele Manor for a wonderful New Year Lunch on January 14th. As always, the food was delicious and the Prosecco went down very well. Our next meeting is on Monday 11th February at Carolyn’s house, Little Ha-ven Weston, when we will be testing our brains with a quiz. Valerie Evans PS Joan Goddard would like to thank all friends at "Monday Club" for their help and kindness to herself and Carl when she was taken unwell at the Lunch party, she is pleased to say that she is fit and well again now.

BURNS NIGHT CELEBRATION IN EATHORPE VILLAGE HALL A group of pretend Scotsmen and women (and a few real ones) turned up at Eathorpe Village Hall on Friday January 25th to celebrate the special night of Scot-land’s iconic poet. A veritable feast (including haggis, of course) was prepared by Maggy, Stevie, Nanette and Joan. And Burns’ poem, “Address to a Haggis” was read aloud in an incomprehensible (and rather dodgy) Scots accent by David.

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face, Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

So, we come to another year, with, hopefully, a lot less crime to have to re-port: if only!! During the past few months, there have been a couple of Police reports con-cerning incidents within our villages, and these are shown below: 1 Wappenbury - Attempt Burglary - Crime Ref: 23/53077/18 Between 07:00hrs and 18:15hrs Tuesday 18-DEC-2018 unknown offender(s) attempted to force entry into a residential property in Wappenbury. Damage was caused to a ground floor window. If you have information relating to the above incident, please contact War-wickshire Police on 101 and quote crime reference: 23/53077/18. Alterna-tively call CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. 2 Daytime burglaries on Hunningham Road Please be aware that since 8th January until 10th January 2019 there have been two daytime burglaries on Hunningham Road in Weston under Wether-ley. The offender is entering properties and stealing electronic items and jew-ellery when the properties seem unoccupied. Please ensure any alarms are set and secure your jewellery by using a deposit box or safe. Do not leave garden tools laying about as the offender may use these to gain access. Each month I receive a number of emails from the Police with regard to ad-vice on how to avoid crimes, or informing about all kinds of scams etc. If I were to include them in the Newsletter, then they would take several pages. Now, however, the Police have introduced a messaging service as described below. Some of these emails are helpful, but now you can decide for your-selves whether you wish to receive them direct. Warwickshire Police Community Messaging Service (CMS) Warwickshire Police is encouraging the local community to sign up for their free messaging service to keep up-to-date with what is going on in your local area. Local watch schemes such as these are aimed at encouraging communi-ties to work together to protect both themselves and their property. It is a free tool that anyone can sign up for and in doing so, you will receive crime alerts for your local area along with useful crime prevention advice and community safety information. It also offers you the opportunity to join a lo-

The most memorable card that landed at the Vicarage this last Christmas contained an extra message, “Music gives meaning to the whole of life”. An-drew was right: music has that amazing capacity to lift us to a new dimension of being. Two of the things that matter to me living here are the people of musical talent who are here among us and the opportunity to join with oth-ers and sing! Like many youngsters of my age, I sang in the local church choir. You know the picture: ‘butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth’ little boys dressed in cas-socks and surplices, chirruping away like songbirds (but really couldn’t wait to get outside and kick a football around; or worse – trying to disrupt the Girl Guide meeting that went on next door! That IS another story!) But along the way, we learned to appreciate having music in our lives and making music too. I am rediscovering the joy of singing in a choir. On the face of it, we meet to have fun singing together and Katie looks after us in our en-deavours in such a lovely way. But there is more to it than that. We are learn-ing again that it is good for us, both producing great feelings of well-being and physical health benefits too. Our television programmes reflect this growing popularity of singing together; I guess Gareth Malone is the apostle of this modern phenomena. There is more! In the week after meeting to sing together, I find my head filled with ‘mind worms’, musical phrases that stay with me throughout the day. And these snatches of songs bring colour to my living and breathing. I think this is what Andrew was getting at in his Christmas card. And even better, when we have the courage to work towards putting on a public per-formance, there develops a sense of purpose, an extra ‘cutting edge’ to our coming together to sing. And surely you must know what a ‘buzz’ is awaiting you, at the end of a concert or performance, when you relax after negotiating the tricky bits, filled with a sense of pride at a job well done and basking in the delight of audience applause. If you have not tried it, you should! [Weston Choir meets in the Village Hall on Thursday evenings, 8.00-9.00pm]

There is another dimension that is worth mentioning. Singing brings us in such close connection with one another, with the whole of creation and with our great Creator. No wonder we sing in church! The Book of Psalms is a very early hymnbook, full of the desire to thank God for this wonderful life. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, the crowd could not contain them-selves: they sang “Hosanna to the Son of David!” Maybe when we make mu-sic, we admit into our lives more than we realize!
