Term 2 Week 2 7th May, 2019 PBL Focus of the Week: How to Handle Change Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members, Welcome to Term 2 NAPLAN Next week students in Years 3 and 5 will be participating in NAPLAN. NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing but about assessing learning progress. Reports will be sent home to parents mid August to mid September. Tuesday 14th May: Language Conventions and Writing Wednesday 15th May: Reading Thursday 16th May: Numeracy Mothers Day Stall This Thursday our P&C will be hosting a Mother’s Day stall. Gifts will range from $3—$7. Students will be able to purchase one gift when they visit with their class and other gifts during lunch time. Thank you to the P&C for organising this special activity. Zone Cross Country On Friday last week 24 students attended the Zone Cross-Country. Every one of them proudly represented our school with their exceptional behaviour and effort. Congratulations to all students and especially to Chelsea S who came first in her age group and is now heading off to compete at Regionals. Mrs R. Callinan (Principal) Head Lice Please remember that Monday night is ‘Hair Check Night’. We need to be vigilant with this practice to prevent the spreading of head lice. Mrs Sodhi on Leave Mrs Sodhi will commence her maternity leave next week. We wish her the best of luck as she rests and prepares for the arrival of her baby. Good luck Mrs Sodhi and we can not wait for a visit once your baby is here. Adopt a Farmer Weston Public is supporting our farmers by participating in the Adopt a Framer fundraising campaign. This fundraising activity will be held tomor- row, 8th May. Students are encouraged to dress like a farmer for the day and bring in a gold coin donation. We look forward to seeing their farming attire. Earn and Learn ‘Earn and Learn is back this year! Parents and carers who shop at Woolworths are encouraged to collect the ‘Earn and Learn stickers and deposit them in our school’s box. Walk to School On Friday, 17th May all students are encouraged to walk to school as part of the NSW Government initiative to promote healthy living and physical activity. We understand that this is not possible for all students however parents may like to park the car a few streets back from the school and walk part of the way with their child. We encourage all students to walk with their peers or a trusted adult. Name on Clothes This time of year it is often cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon and for this reason we have piles of lost property in our sick bay. Please ensure your child’s name is on all articles of clothing especially hats and jumpers. P&C News P &C Meeting The next P & C meeting will be held on Monday, 13th May at 7pm in the staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend. Easter Raffle Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser, by donating or purchasing tick- ets. Congratulations to all of the lucky winners. Canteen Can parents please ensure they have written or write on lunch order bags for students as canteen staff are busy in the mornings and do not have time. Student Banking Student banking is every Thursday. Your child can bank as little as 50 cents. Great Aussie Bush Camp Students in Years 5 & 6 will have the opportunity to attend The GABC in Term 4 Week 5 (Mon. 11th - Wed. 13th November). Students have taken home a separate information/ permission note. A non-refundable $50.00 deposit MUST be paid by Friday, 10th May (Term 2 Week 2) for students to be included in this activity. The total cost of $350.00 will need to be paid by Wednesday, 23rd October. Congratulations Katereena Last term Katereena tried out for the Cessnock Zone Soccer Team and was successful. Well done Katereena, we are very proud of your efforts.
