President’s Message Hi Ladies— Fall is rapidly approaching, and with it all of our lives are getting busier and busier. In the midst of planning all your holiday celebrations, don’t forget to check our monthly calendar for exciting AAUW events. Stay active and engaged in our Branch, make lasting friendships and give back to our communities at the same time! In October, we had a wonderful presentation by the six girls we sponsored to Tech Trek. The UCI camp was a great opportunity for these young women to expand their horizons and increase their self confidence in today’s confusing world. We would dearly love to send more than six to camp, but we need more money to make that happen. We would like to start a Fund Raising Committee with two or three members who could come up with new ideas to raise money or look for corporate sponsorships. If you are interested in helping out with this worthy cause, please contact the Board -- we would love to have your input! Thanks again for all of your wonderful support and dedication to AAUW! Retired Teachers---CAN YOU Be a Volunteer? Project S.H.U.E. - at the Westminster Senior Center- is a daily after school enrichment program (staffed by a group of dedicated-fun-Seniors) to improve the lives of 30-Grades 1 & 2 disadvantaged, limited-English speaking kids, by providing homework help, tutoring, reading skills, math practice and cultural enrichment. Some of our volunteers have moved or have health problems and cannot attend this year so we need several new helpers. If you can spare one afternoon a week from 2:30 to 4:30 (earlier on Wednesdays). Please respond to Barbara Smith for more details. I have enjoyed doing this for several years. Barbara Smith, [email protected]
