Eye certification

clinic

JOIN US AT OUR ANNUAL OFA EYE CERTIFICATION

CLINIC AT KIMBERTON, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2014

Dr. William Crumley, Diplomate of ACVO, University of Pennsylvania will again

be doing the honors for us. Examination times will be scheduled from 10:00

AM to 4:00PM.

The WHWTCA is again subsidizing costs for members and their Westies to help

complete the recommended CHIC health clearances. Eyes should be examined

annually until at least 8 years to be kept current. WHWTCA members cost for

their Westies is $20 and $35 for non-members or other breeds.

Pre-registration can be mailed to David Butterfield, 1630 Woodsong, CT,

Riverside, CA 92504. If you would like a particular time for your appointment,

please include the request and we will try to honor it as close as possible.

Payment by check would be appreciated.

The clinic registration form can be found at this link:

http://www.westieclubamerica.com/montgomery/docs/2014%20CERF%20For

m.pdf

We will take walk-ins but please have registration and microchip information

with you. Check in at the clinic registrars as early as possible to have your dog

put into the rotation. Dogs must have permanent identification with tattoo

or microchip to qualify for the CHIC health clearance.

There will be a few prepaid microchips available at $30 if desired. I will again

be happy to donate patella exams if you catch me at an open time. It is

necessary to have registration and microchip information available. The

patella form can be found at offa.org and if presented already filled in, will

save much time. If you have any other questions, David can be reached at

[email protected] or myself at [email protected].

Safe travels,

Kay McGuire, DVM

FREE EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR Ears and Feet:

Problem Areas for Allergic Westies

Valerie A. Fadok, DVM, PhD, Diplomate, ACVD

Thursday, October 2, 2014

6:30 pm Comfort Suites

700 West Uwchlan Ave

Exton, PA 19341 (across from the Hampton Inn on the SW corner of Rte100 and Rte113)

Our beloved Westies are prone to allergic skin disease. As part of allergies, ears and feet often get inflamed and secondary infections can develop. We

will talk about the types of ear infections we can see in allergic ears and how veterinarians approach diagnosis and treatment. The feet are often the first

part of the body affected in allergic dogs because dogs absorb their allergens through the skin. We will talk about simple remedies to help control foot itch as well as how to recognize when secondary infection is present. We will also

discuss some of the nonallergic problems affecting feet, including demodicosis and fungal infection.

Door prizes will be available and light refreshments will be served. Browse

our sales table for unique Westie items. Hope you can join us for this informative seminar!

This summer found WPWHWTC members very busy. Many continued to achieve Titles and Awards in their various performance activities. All of us enjoyed extra walks and all around fun with our canine companions! Our September membership meeting will feature “ Back to the Basics” a hands- on workshop on caring for our Westies presented by our own Club members, Stuart Needel and Patti Marks. During the Montgomery Event, our sales table will be selling Bracelets for a Cause. These items are leather and crystal jewelry creations handcrafted by member Denise Collins. A portion all proceeds is donated to the National Canine Cancer Foundation. Please stop by and help support this worthwhile cause. http://www.wearethecure.org/friends/braceletsforacause#.U_M_7D-9KSN

We look forward to seeing you at Montgomery!
