ARTS AND CRAFTS

ART GALLERY AT THE LIBRARYIn NOVEMBER: Danielle Leef is a local photographer from Southampton, who specializes in seascapes, sunsets and the beauty of mother nature.

In the Display Case in NOVEMBER: During the American Revolution, the British raised money for the soldiers by selling Toby Jugs - caricatures of the American leaders sitting on chamber pots. They were so popular that anybody who was anybody was portrayed on a Toby Jug, and they continued to be produced well into the 20th century. In celebration of New York History month, the Library is delighted to display an eye-opening collection of Toby Jugs of the famous and infamous, courtesy of our own Genealogy/History Librarian Su Garrison-Terry.

In DECEMBER: Esly Escobar lives to create art! His paintings are in oil enamel and acrylic.

In the Display Case in DECEMBER: Corie Ann Bush is a digital photographer who tries to capture the moments between stillness and chaos, to see beyond looking. The photos in this display share a winter theme and were taken on eastern Long Island.

1KB4K1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (also known as 1KB4K), is an early literacy experience offered through the Westhampton Free Library’s Idea Place Department for children ages birth to 5 years and families. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter Kindergarten. At the Idea Place we want to partner with parents to give children a reading experience to prepare them for Kindergarten. By simply reading aloud to children from birth, it builds strong vocabulary and language skills. Together we will provide children with the opportunity to have a concrete foundation to succeed not only through Kindergarten but throughout the continuation of their schooling years. Children earn a hardcover book for every 100 books read. When they reach 1,000 books, they are honored at an award ceremony, receive a certificate of completion and a trophy.
