Western Days in Mustang means chili time
Coldwell-‐Banker won the Judge's Choice award at the Mustang Chamber of Commerce’s annual Western Days Chili Cook-‐off on Sept. 8.
Multiple community businesses which support the chamber, including First National Bank, participated in the chili-‐cook off by assisting in the setup of the event, taking tickets and filling chili bowls. FNBT Manager Patty Chan and her team both took tickets at the main entrance and explained to attendees how the cook-‐off works.
Assistant Manager Beth Hicks has worked at the cook-‐off for four years now, and says the attendance is continuing to grow every year. “The community is becoming more aware of the event, and more businesses are getting involved,” Hicks said.
The chili cook off doesn’t just serve chili. In addition to the tastes and smells of chili, there are singing competitions, best dressed cowboy and cowgirl and the sounds of the Star Spangled Banner coming from the Rodeo across the street.
This year’s judges, Mustang Police officers, took their roles seriously, ensuring only the best chili makers won. “It was fun to see the officers; this is the first time they have acted as judges,” Hicks said. “They followed the checklist closely, rating the entries based on aroma, appearance, texture, etc.”
This is the first time FNBT Teller Hope Walker participated in the Mustang Western Days event. “I have lived all over the world and not seen a populace that was so close knit,” Walker said. “It is wonderful to be a part of the community traditions and celebrations; it really shows how much we support one another.”
The Chamber plans to continue the tradition 2018, for all the businesses and communities to come together once again to celebrate another night of closeness and chili.
