Kolkata, The 25th Standing Advisory Committee (SAC)

recommended five per cent dilution in compulsorypackaging of food grains in jute bags for the 2017-18 procurement season, an official said on Friday.

The official, however, said the committee main-tained the jute packaging reservation to 20 per centfor sugar for 2017-18.

"In the recent SAC meeting, which was convenedunder the provisions of the Jute Packaging MaterialsAct, 1987, recommended five per cent dilution ofpackaging of food grains in jute bags from existing90 per cent for 2017-18 procurement seasons. Likelast year, it kept jute packaging reservation to 20 percent for sugar," the official said.In the meeting, theDepartment of Food and Public Distribution of thecentral government, however, sought reduction incompulsory packaging of food grains in jute bagsfrom existing 90 per cent to 75 per cent in generaland full exemption from existing 20 per cent in caseof sugar in the meet, the official said.According to theofficial, the department of Chemical and Petro-chemi-cals demanded that there should not be any reser-vation for food grains and sugar.

has launched a tool called "Stolen Phone Checker"powered by GSMA Device Check which lets consum-ers in the US look up whether a smartphone has beenreported lost or stolen.

The consumers can check up to five devices a day."The service provides the wireless industry with

the definitive, single source of real-time lost or sto-len mobile device data," dailymail.co.uk reported onSaturday. "GSMA Device Check" also helps determinethe true device model authenticity, which helps cal-culate an accurate value."Stolen Phone Checker"works by looking up a device's IMEI (InternationalMobile Equipment Identifier), a unique code that getassigned to every phone. India's factory output dips in MarchNew Delhi,

India's factory outputgrowth slowed to 2.7 percent in March on the back ofpoor manufacturing perfor-mance in the new Index ofIndustrial Production (IIP)with revised base year of2011-12, which was releasedhere by the government onFriday.

According to data re-leased by the Ministry ofStatistics and ProgrammeImplementation, the IIP hadrecorded a growth of 5.5 percent in March 2016, whereasit only grew by 1.9 per centin February 2017.

The IIP base year hasbeen changed to ensurethat it remains more rel-evant in the years that it isoperational, Chief Statisti-cian of India T.C.A. Ananthsaid at a joint briefing withDepartment of IndustrialPolicy and Promotion (DIPP)Secretary Ramesh Abhishek.

"The objective is to con-verge more in line with thecurrent consumption andproduction pattern of thecountry," he said, addingthat the DIPP and the Min-

istry Of Statistics andProgramme Implementa-tion coordinated closely forthe change.

The March IIP datashowed that electricity gen-eration went up by 6.2 percent, while mining rose by9.7 per cent.

However, manufactur-ing output grew slower at1.2 per cent from 1.4 percent reported for February2017.

On a full fiscal 2016-17basis, the new series of IIPshowed a growth of five percent as manufacturing andmining activities rose.

The factory output, asper the IIP's new base year,had increased by 3.4 percent during 2015-16.

The factory output rosemainly on account of a 4.9per cent increase inmanufacturing.Among theother two major sub-indices,electricity generation in-creased by 5.8 per centwhile mining output was upby 5.3 per cent.Further, thegovernment released othermacro-economic data --Wholesale Price Index (WPI)

and Consumer Price Index(CPI) -- which showed thatinflation eased in April.

India's annual rate of in-flation based on wholesaleprices decelerated lastmonth to 3.85 per cent from5.29 per cent reported forMarch, as prices of food, fueland manufactured productseased, official data showedon Friday.

The data on annual rateof inflation based on WPIwas calculated on a revisedbase year of 2011-12.

The annual rate of infla-tion in April last year haddeclined to (-)1.09 per cent.

Retail inflation based onCPI for April slowed to 2.99per cent from 3.89 per centfor March.

The Consumer FoodPrice Index (CFPI) during themonth under reviewplunged to 0.61 per cent, ascompared to 2.01 per centin March.The Central Statis-tics Office (CSO) data re-vealed that the annual retailinflation for rural India was3.02 per cent, while that forthe urban centres was 3.03per cent.

The Indian industry wel-comed the new macro eco-nomic data points calcu-lated based on the new baseof 2011-12.

According to ChandrajitBanerjee, Director General,CII, IIP data calculated withthe new base year wouldgive a "more realistic cover-age and be reflective of themarket realities".

Similarly, he pointed outthat the release of new WPIdata on the 2011-12 base,makes it more comparablewith the CPI which has 2012as the base.

Welcoming the base re-vision of IIP series, PankajPatel, President, Ficci said:"The new base year washighly desirable to have amore representative andcontemporary assessmentof the industrial growth".

However, he observed:"Investment, particularly pri-vate investments remainsluggish as evident from themuted growth of the capitalgood sector which impliesthat public investment isgoing to be an importantfactor.

Sterlite Power Grid Launches IndiGrid IPO

New Delhi,India Grid Trust, an infra-

structure investment trust(InvIT) sponsored by SterlitePower Grid Ventures Ltd, willlaunch its initial public offer-ing (IPO) on May 17. Theprice band for the IPO hasbeen fixed at Rs 98-100 pershare and the company islooking to raise Rs 2,250crore through the issue.

This is India’s secondInvIT IPO after the one is-sued by IRB Infrastructureand the first in the powerspace. InvITs are trusts thatmanage income-generatinginfrastructure assets, offer-ing investors regular yieldsand a liquid way to invest ininfrastructure projects.

The price band has beenset at Rs 98-100 per share,

with 60 percent of the offerbeing set aside for institu-tional investors.

The trust currently holdstwo projects with a total ofeight power transmissionlines and two substations.The sponsor Sterlite PowerLtd. will transfer three inter-state power transmissionprojects over the next twoyears, said Pratik Agarwal,the chief executive officer ofSterlite Investment Manag-ers Ltd.

More than 60 percent orRs 1,600 crore will be usedto repay debt in the twoprojects currently housedunder the trust told HarshShah CFO of Sterlite Invest-ment. The two projects arethe Bhopal Dhule Transmis-sion Project Ltd. and

Jabalpur TransmissionProject Ltd.

Titan net up 7.5% in Q4; 9.2% in FY 2017Bengaluru,

Titan Company Ltd onFriday reported a Rs 201crore net profit for thefourth quarter (Q4) of fiscal2016-17, registering 7.5 percent year-on-year (YoY )growth from Rs.187 crore inthe same period of the pre-vious fiscal.

In a regulatory filing onthe BSE, the city-basedwatches and jewellerymaker said net profit for thefiscal under review (FY 2017)grew 9.2 per cent YoY toRs.762 crore from Rs 698crore in FY 2016.

"Total income for thequarter under review (Q4)grew 44 per cent YoY to Rs

3,487 crore from Rs 2,423crore in the like period yearago," said the filing.

Total income for FY 2017grew 14 per cent YoY to Rs12,782 crore from Rs 11,179crore in FY 2016.

Sequentially, net profitfor Q4 (Rs 201 crore), how-ever, declined 26 per centquarter-on-quarter (QoQ)from Rs 253 crore in thethird quarter (Q3).

Income too declined 10per cent QoQ for Q4 (Rs3,487 crore) from Rs 3,880 in

Q3. Consolidated net profitfor FY 2017 increased 24 percent YoY to Rs 1,077 crorefrom Rs 868 crore in FY 2016,while consolidated incomegrew 16 per cent YoY to Rs13,171 crore for FY 2017from Rs 11,384 crore in FY2016. "The fourth quarter(January-March) was a goodquarter for us, with 44 percent YoY income growthand 14 per cent for the fis-cal (FY 2017), which came inthe backdrop of a changingenvironment anddemonetisation," said thecompany in a statementhere.

The jewellery business,which crossed the Rs10,000-crore mark in the fis-cal under review, grew 17.4per cent to Rs 10,237 croreon the launch of many col-lections and effective wed-ding campaign.
