Engine Group also launched production of its 10.5L and 12.4L big bore engines: the MaxxForce 11 and MaxxForce 13. Forty-five engines were produced as pre-production builds in the last two months of CY 2007. Concurrently, International is building a new 300,000 square foot plant to produce these engines in Huntsville, AL. Full production will begin in May.

As we look at 2010 emissions, we remember 2002. Some competitors were using electronics to "skirt" around emissions and save fuel economy. They could essentially calibrate to meet emissions when the EPA was monitoring. When not monitoring, the system threw off substantial emissions. The offenders were caught, fined, and forced to meet 2004 standards early. Part of that was EGR. It was forced into the market before it was fine tuned. When technologies with controls aren't fine-tuned they can have reliability issues. EGR is a very effective use of putting air back into the system to use over again instead of out the tailpipe. EGR systems today are robust and all systems today use EGR… even those who use SCR. So, while our competitors use the term “massive” EGR, they too are using EGR within their engines. What they don’t tell you is there’s no accepted way to measure EGR rates. They make claims about our EGR rates, but none of the competition are even able to reliably quantify their own EGR rates, let alone what our EGR rates are…
