The Enclosure and Tank Turtles bask and swim. They are a pond
swimmer and like a decent amount of water to swim in. Their
enclosure needs to have a uvb lamp (sun lamp), a heater to keep
their tank between 72 degrees F and 80 degrees F and a water filter
Their should be a spot to bask and some sort of real or artificial
plants to sleep and hide in

Caring for Turtles Turtles are extremely dirty so when handling
them, they are to be handled with caution. Turtles carry salmonella
which is found in raw chicken so it is important to WASH your hands
before and after touching them IMMEDIATELY!
Slide 8
Turtle Behavior Western painters are pretty docile and they
love to bask and swim. They are social so they should get along
with other turtles that are around their same age, however a bigger
turtle can eat a smaller one.
Slide 9
Turtle Eating Habits Western painters can be aggressive eaters
or mild eaters. They are omnivores which mean they eat both meat
and vegetation. Western painters can only eat their food while in
the water but cannot eat food on land.

Wild Western Painted Turtles Vs. Western Painted Turtle Pets
Wild Western Painted turtles are not recommended as pets for the
reason of taking them from their natural environment. They will
also be feisty and pickier towards humans. Pets that are captive
bred will be more likely to prefer the pellets and jar food. They
will also will not be skittish towards people and they are used to
being handled.
Slide 14
Additional Information Turtles will go up to each there and
touch noses when greeting like dogs sniffing each other. They have
no teeth but a like beak mouth. Turtles swallow whole or shred
their food when eating. Turtles will lay 20-50 at a time on top of
each other on a log to bask.
