Welcome and Aims

Eveyone at Westcliff Primary School and Blackpool Gateway Academy are in pursuit of educational excellence.

We endeavour to work together with parents, families, Governors and the local community to provide high quality care and education through continuous improvement.

All children are encouraged to enjoy learning, realise their best potential and show mutual respect for one another. We promote independence and hope that all our pupils become ‘life-long learners’.

Ofsted have said “Pupils leave as polite, well-rounded and responsible young people well prepared for the next stage of their education”

School Structure

Westcliff Primary School is a three form entry academy. The school caters for children between the ages of 3 and 11 years across two sites. Westcliff Primary School, located in Bispham, which is north of Blackpool Town Centre; and Blackpool Gateway Academy in the southern area of Blackpool.

Our highly effective Senior Leadership Team and experienced staff work closely across both school sites for the benefit of all our children.

The schools are calm, safe environments where we embrace traditional values and pupils respect each other and staff.

Curriculum & Extra Curricular, Including the arts (Children’s University, band, choir etc)

Our curriculum is broad, balanced and engaging. By responding to children’s interests and to events in the world around us, staff deliver exciting and innovative learning experiences.

The curriculum is enhanced through a wide range of opportunities, such as cookery, choir, dance, languages and many different sporting activities. School provides the opportunity for all children to learn a musical instrument, participate in cultural visits, perform on a professional stage and undertake a residential visit.

ICT is used to enhance learning and teaching. Interactive whiteboards are installed in all the classrooms. This allows lessons to be visual and exciting which motivates the children.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Children have one childhood and it should be magical and wondrous!

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is very important as it lays the foundations for future learning and development. We believe your child’s early years experience should be happy, active, fun and secure with activities planned to suit your child’s unique needs.

Behaviour and lnclusion

Each child is respected as an individual and given the chance to grow and develop at their own pace. If any child is experiencing a problem that is affecting their progress, parents will be informed and we will work together to help your child succeed.

We have a positive approach and hold high expectations of children’s behaviour. We recognise and reward achievement, enthusiasm and good behaviour. It is assumed that parents, who choose to send their child to our school, will support and co-operate fully with the staff in maintaining high standards of work and behaviour.

Partnerships

Partnerships between parents and teachers is crucial for the success of your children in their life at school.

Close contact begins in the Early Years through informal links with parents in a variety of ways such as daily conversations, reading diaries, newsletters and also our school texting service. All parents are encouraged to become an active member of our PTFA (Parent, Teacher, Friends Association) which allows parents the opportunity to build partnerships whilst raising money for the benefit of the children.

Our school has close links with feeder nurseries, other local primary schools, high schools and further education establishments to ease the transition process for our children and their families.

Being a part of the Fylde Coast Teaching School Alliance allows us to work in dynamic partnerships with associated schools.
