Westbourne in Bloomkeeping Westbourne beautiful

Each year Westbourne is transformed with a beautiful selection of owers located in planters along the high street. For the past few weeks a dedicated team have been preparing the green metal stands to be planted at the beginning of June. We spoke to Maureen Rouse who is co-ordinating the planting and asked her how it all came about, “Edna Lipscombe and I started the ‘Westbourne in Bloom’ group in 1992, as we are members of the Bournemouth in Bloom Committee and with 5 other ladies we form a voluntary group. It involves a lot of fundraising as the whole project costs around £7,000 each summer and is supported by a number of local traders too via sponsorship.”

There are several hundred owers used in the displays which Maureen told us more about, “We’re very glad to have Plowmans Nurseries on board who plant four liners to each pedestal, with a total of thirty ower pedestals, eight barrier baskets (opposite M & S) with extra large hanging baskets at the Westbourne Library and three containers at Barclays Bank. Kings Park Nursery water all the ower features, at least twice a week early morning.”

For 2011 there will be a range of owers used in each of the planters, hanging baskets and displays around Westbourne including Surnias, Begonias, Mediterranean Geraniums and Busy Lizzies. “We want to keep the arrangements colourful and practical so that they will last for the summer months”, explained Maureen. In recent years Westbourne has won a Silver Award in the South/South East Coastal Resorts Competition and Silver Gilt Award in the same competition. Plus, a Silver award from the national Britain in Bloom competition. “Unfortunately we do not have the manpower to enter more competitions, but we would welcome any help from local people as it’s great to showcase Westbourne at these events.”

If you are interested in getting involved with the Westbourne in Bloom group please email [email protected] and we will pass your details on to Maureen.Westbourne Womens Institute President

Mighty Meridiansenergy pathways explained by Ann Runyard

I have been having an intense love aair with the concept of Chinese Meridians since completing a very interesting course on Mind Body Bowen. I now feel my technique is more nely tuned, which has been most exciting.Meridians are positive and negative energy pathways or streams, which communicate with almost every part of the body. This energy shares many similarities with the earth’s core and exhibit maximum organ energy time. For example: The Heart meridian’s peak is between 11am to 1pm and the Stomach between 7am to 9am.This subtle energy, discovered by the Chinese some 5,000 years ago, is invisible and cannot be felt or found within the senses. How freaky and fascinating is that? These meridians connect deeply on both sides of the body acting like a mirror, rather like an intricate map of the body’s energy system. They are deeply aected by Bowen therapy, bringing awareness to specic areas where energy blocks have occurred.Once a certain meridian has been identied as low in energy, specic procedures can be applied which will be directed to that particular pathway, unblocking trapped stagnating energy. This is what I call tailor-made Bowen and it works a treat!

Bowen is a non-invasive therapy that works at deep cellular level and balances the body’s electromagnetic system. It is a deeply relaxing and an amazing stress buster. Why not try it?Web: www.annrunyard.co.uk

Southcoast PropertyWestbourne’s newest letting agents

A welcoming sight to the Grand Cinema parade is Southcoast Property (Dorset and Hampshire) Limited, owned and run by Father and Son Philip & Kieran Piper.Ocially opened on 11th April 2011, Kieran gave us an insight into the opening of this

truly unique oce and his thoughts on how the lettings industry should operate. “We look to oer a comfortable relaxed environment, personal approach and still provide a complete, professional service. This all started with the design of the oce using well established local companies to assist us in establishing what has been described by many as a fabulous oce. Many thanks go to our interior designers Di Lusso of Canford Clis who helped create the visual impact of the oce and Broadview Blinds who equally worked to our high standards and created a truly striking shop frontage and internal bespoke window display”.Further to this he added “Too many agents oer an average service and adopt the opinion of it’s only lettings! As members of the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (A.R.L.A) and the Property Ombudsmen we work to the highest standards set in an unfortunately unlicensed industry where so many people can call themselves Lettings Agents. With my experience in setting up and developing other successful letting departments and the 30 years within property and business that my father has, local knowledge and genuine care for people and their properties this was undoubtedly the perfect opportunity to provide the service that people deserve”.When asked what drew them to Westbourne, Philip responded, “It is a great central location for all areas and a wonderful bustling feel to the town centre”.

Sad Loss for Westbourneas we say goodbye to The Quay

The Quay, a popular face on Westbourne high street is set to close. Owners Joe and Judy Cross have run the fashion outlet for over 5 years. We spoke to Judy who said, “As most of my customers know, I have not been well for over a year now. It is with regret that I have decided to close, as I cannot manage to run the shop any longer. I would like to thank all of my loyal customers for their support over the past ve years. I will really miss you all.” The Quay has been oering the latest female fashions from well known brands such as Sandwich, Jackpot, Jocavi and others since its formation and it is a shame to lose such a well respected business from Westbourne. We would like to wish both Joe and Judy all the best for the future and invite our readers to make the most of the reductions on summer stock before the store closes.
