MISSIONS CORNER
Community Service Day Saturday, October 7th from 9:00-12:00
This is a day that Westwood has devoted to helping people in our
community both church members and non-church members. If you know of
someone who needs help with yard work or minor repairs please contact
the Church office. We will also be visiting nursing homes and delivering
homemade bread to our shut-in’s. Flu shots will be given during the
morning. We need many volunteers to carry out these projects.
Back Pack Buddies for Apex Middle School Thank you to everyone who participated in Back Pack Buddies last month.
Your contributions will be a blessing to those children in need.
Baptist Children’s Home We had 14 people that worked at the Children’s Home in Kinston on Aug
19th. Multiple task were completed: blew pine straw off roof, painted
outdoor furniture, cleaned kitchen, hung curtain rods, washed windows and
served lunch. The house parents wanted to be sure Westwood knows how
much they appreciate all the work we did for them.
State Fair Ministry Each year the Raleigh Baptist Association sponsors the NC State Fair Ministry for the benefit of the carnival workers. Westwood participates in the Food Drive collection area of this ministry. We will be collecting the following food items through Sunday, October 1st. A collection table is set up in the foyer. Items Accepted: Canned Potatoes, Sweet Sue brand (only) Chicken & Dumplings, Cream of Potato Soup, Cream of Celery Soup, Baked Beans, Canned Mixed Vegetables, Chili and Beans, Canned Chicken, Corn, Lima Beans, Black Beans, Southwestern Chicken Tortilla Soup, Creamy Peanut Butter, Grape Jam.
For more information or questions contact Fran Tetlak at 919-218-0663 or [email protected]
We are in need of Extended Session helpers this year. This is a great Ministry for our Children and we need YOUR help to make it possible. Please contact Tracy Lindner at 919-321-6293 or [email protected] if you can help. Thank you in advance for
considering being a part of this Ministry.

Westwood Responds…Garden Ministry The Westwood garden has produced some really nice tomatoes this
summer and a lot of them. So far we have picked over 300 pounds
of tomatoes. Cantaloupes will be in full production soon as well as
the field peas. Dan Shearin and the youth will be planting the fall
crop of cabbage and collards as soon as the weather permits. The
produce has been delivered to the Western Wake Crisis Ministry and
Dorcas Ministries. A special thanks goes to our faithful pickers;
Jerry Richards, Jim White and Art Barton.

Wednesday Night Women's Bible Study
Starting September 20th, Westwood will be offering a women's
Bible study called "The Gospel of Mark, The Jesus We're Aching For"
by Lisa Harper. This study follows Jesus through His days of early
ministry all the way to the cross. It's there we discover what it
means to be the recipients of His excessive compassion and the
very reason for His all-consuming love. This is a 14 week video
based study. We will meet from 6:30-7:30pm in Room 200. If you
would like to participate in this study, please sign up on the bulletin
board in Hall A or contact Pam White @ [email protected]

From the Interim Minister of Music and Worship Thank you, thank you! --For your delicious ice cream and other desserts and your great participation and singing for our Hymn-Sing on Aug. 13. Yes, we will do it again! --To Cathy Hamner for a year of expressive and worshipful piano accompaniment and service music. --For your expressions of gratitude to Cathy Hamner, church pianist, as she leaves us to take a position at another church. To the choir, for providing goodies for Cathy’s reception on Aug. 20 and to the Fellowship Committee for helping to set up and clean up, along with choir members. --To ENGRAVED for so beautifully leading in worship through music on Aug. 20. Look for them to lead again on Oct. 8, as well as part of the 25th Anniversary Weekend celebration. --To our Ensemble for their regular practices and for their upcoming worship leadership times, including during the Anniversary worship service. --To the Choir for their faithful attendance, even in the summer months! You are a joy to work with. --To you, the congregation, for singing your praise of God faithfully each week. May we continue to grow in our comfort with musical styles that cause us to stretch, as we celebrate our oneness in Christ, no matter what the musical style or worship style or favorite hymn. Coming this month: Sunday, Sept. 10—Choir will have a potluck salad lunch followed by introductory practice on Christmas cantata “The Winter Rose.” New members are welcome, even if you would just like to participate in the cantata but not weekly worship leadership. We will conclude by 5:00 p.m. See me if you are interested. Would you like to sing in the Cary Community Chorus presentation of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. here in our sanctuary? Rehearsals are Tuesdays Nov. 21 and 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If you would like to sing but are not familiar with the music, I will offer some rehearsals on Sunday afternoons for those interested. Please let me know if this is something in which you would participate. I feel blessed to serve among you as your Interim Minister of Music and Worship.

WBC SENIOR ADULT TRIP
SENIOR ADULT TRIP September 29th “Footloose” - Temple Theater For our September bus trip we will head to Temple Theater to see the musical “Footloose”. The show is a classic tale of teenage rebellion and repression featuring a delightful combination of dance choreography and realistic and touching performances. This fast-paced drama is filled with such now-famous hit songs as the title track and "Let's Hear It for the Boy” plus other great songs. We will leave the church at 10:30am and stop on the way for lunch and arrive at the theater for the 2:00pm matinee show. The cost is $23.00 per person to cover theater tickets and gas for the bus. Lunch will be at your expense. Make your check payable to WBC for $23.00 and give your check (or cash) to Clara Wolverton (or put your check in the envelope by the Sign-Up sheet) before September 13th. MYRTLE BEACH TRIP DECMEBER 4TH-6TH
WBC will be making the December bus trip to Myrtle Beach again this year. Check the Senior Adult
bulletin board for more information about the trip plans and be sure to sign up early!
Scholarships for Belize Students As children in the Triangle are gearing up to go back to school, so are the children in Belize! In Belize students must pay to attend school and therefore most require sponsorships. At the high school level they not only have to pay for tuition but also books, lunch, supplies, uniforms and bus fare. Westwood is sponsoring 3 high school students and 2 elementary students. If you would like to contribute you can do so by writing a check to Westwood and putting Belize tuition in the memo line. Thank you for helping these students receive an education and have hope for a better future!
For more information or if you have questions, feel free to contact Michelle.
Westwood Baptist Church
“Joining God in His Work” through missional living is the heart of who we are and what we are about at Westwood. Missional living is the ongoing process of ministering to the whole person by sharing the love of Jesus through both word and deed. It is about building relationships and meeting physical, tangible, emotional, and spiritual needs of people in our world in the name of Jesus. Throughout the year, Westwood offers mission education groups for children, youth, women and men. We also partner with a variety of local and national ministries and support them through finances, prayers, volunteers and other tangible resources.
We believe that every believer has been given spiritual gifts and natural talents that are to be shared and used for the growth of God’s kingdom. Westwood’s goal is to equip and encourage individuals to find their God-given passion and call to service and to live out that call by “Joining God in His Work.”
