There is a campaign to achieve a total ban on lead shot. It is directed by powerful organisations with considerable financial and political resources. Although the current government has no desire to ban lead, politicians may be swayed by evidence and public opinion.

OR LOSE LEAD

To the public and politicians the use of lead in shot is an anomaly and thus atarget for health and environmental groups to hang scare stories on and makes an easy subject for legislation. Latest research shows that the problem arises from inland duck shooting - so to those of youignoring restrictions you are – literally – giving our opponents ammunition.

At present there is no evidence to suggest that existing legislation isinadequate if it is observed. And that’s the problem; enforcement is difficult and is largely in our own hands.

Research and statistics dating from 2002 to 2010 show that there is a serious issue of non-compliance not just by shooters but also shoot providers who fail to make compliance a requirement for Guns. It is simple, if this level of illegal shooting is sustained, it will be enough to secure a total ban on lead.

The E.U and others unequivocably believe that lead istoxic. It has already been removed from petrol, paint and other sources that might cause contamination to people or wildlife.

THE GROUSE ARE PLENTIFUL

At the time of writing the grouse season has been in swing for a few days and reports back from the moors are all mixed as usual although

with some exciting bags being achieved.

Here at the shooting school our grouse are already being shot in record numbers with clients enjoying the variety and presentation we are offering. These include some particularly ‘interesting’ contour hugging birds guaranteed to circulate the blood prior to getting on the

moor.

For those of you going on your first day, maybe later on in the season, now is the

perfect time to get some practice in.

We are running four grouse butts, two showingAugust birds to get the barrels nicely warmedup. The other two showing September/October grouse to hone the reactions. You can practice taking them well out in front and slipping away behind the butts. We use butt sticks of course to

perfect the all important safety drills.

Remember a lesson is only the price of a brace.A worthwhile investment...some might say!

He is as keen as ever to get back out on the school teaching and we anticipate that he will be back with us in September just in time for the full onset of the game season.

The sporting clays course has had a major re-design with targets which shooters of all abilities will enjoy. There is the standard range of fur and feather including a simulated pair of rabbits that will entice and frustrate all at once. In addition, we have a range of teal, battues, crossing targets and towers to circulate the blood and improve your shooting. We will as always provide a caddie and the course is available by telephone booking.

In association withSwarovski Optik UK, the course is designed to give novices and young shots practicable experience of UK lowland deer species and their management. The course will include information that is required to pass DSC Level 1. 300 bird Partridge, Syndicate Day.

Blenheim Palace at Woodstock in Oxfordshire is the most picturesque estate. On the shoot day the guns travel in a variety of 4x4s and lunch is usually served in the Orangery.

300 bird Pheasant, Syndicate Day.

Kings Walden is situated in Hertfordshire. The guns travel in the estate gun bus and lunch is served in the main house. The estate is family owned and the owners are present to host the shoot days.

150-350 bird days for Full Teams.

Great Fulford near Dunsford in Devon offer some of the finest Pheasant Shooting in the South West. The shoot include drives over steep valleysshowing exciting and testing birds. Some boundary walked up days can be arranged. Deer stalking is also available.
