While readying for wildfire season is all about preparation, it’s often difficult to devote energy to di-saster with unpredict-able arrival.

“We are not, of course, forecasting wildfires; let alone a disastrous season. Destructive wildfires may be increasing-ly probable. But they still remain unpre-dictable,” says local silviculturalist John Betts.

The Western Silvi-culture Contractors’ Association met in Kelowna this spring, the 10th anniversary of the wildfires that struck that commu-nity. It was a timely exercise in examining what lies beyond the burning story.

A scan of recent headlines shows that much of continental North America, as well as other parts of the world, are expe-riencing destructive wildfires of greater frequency and sever-ity than seen before. Many of these intense fires have burnt com-munities along with the natural resources and built-up infra-structure needed to support them.

“There’s a pretty

clear picture of what’s emerging across the planet with regards to the increasing fre-quency, severity, in-tensity and destruc-tiveness of wildfire,” says WSCA executive director Betts.

The silvicultural-ist says B.C. is not exempt from these larger trends, in fact, it has its own set of particular problems.

While topography and weather play ob-vious roles in wildfire, the unnatural and continuing build up of fuel in our forests is what people should be concerned about. Because forest fires have been eluded for decades because of supression, growth of older ingrown stands means a dense and of-ten stressed forest. A 2003 study of South-ern Interior forest ecosystems showed almost a quarter of the approximately 16 million hectares stud-ied was found to be in this hazardous state.

“Fire can readily engage fuel from the forest floor right to the crown,” the doc-ument says. “This can produce extreme fires leaving the landscape dramatically altered; often at the expense of the ecosystem and anything else embed-ded in it.”

Add in the moun-tain pine beetle, oth-er pests and disease, and the resulting fall-ing dead wood is a dry lattice suspended above ground.

Though the cost of fighting fires is of-ten viewed in terms of damage caused or number of fire fight-ers on a crew, studies in the U.S. have found destructive fires cost 10 to 50 times the cost of suppression when everything from lost wages from disrupted business to evacua-tion costs to damaged crops.

“Since the year 2000, British Colum-bia has spent $2.3 billion of taxpayers dollars suppressing wildfire,” says Betts.

He explains in the past B.C. has probably put out over 98 per cent of the fires and ignitions across the province. But it is that very small percentage comprising the ones not extinguished that causes 80 to 90 per-cent of the damage and losses.

“We are now in-creasingly encounter-ing fires that can only be put out by weath-er and winter. At the same time govern-ment budgets are lim-ited,” says Betts. “And just to make the co-nundrum complete:

suppression today has the consequence of adding or preserving fuel for tomorrow. This all has the mak-ings of a vicious cir-cle.”

Betts would like

to see better effort in managing fuel includ-ing logging, thinning, brushing, reforesta-tion and burning in ways that will influ-ence how future fire will behave. Essential-

ly, change the current way of thinking about forest management.

“It is likely that those rural communi-ties on the front lines of wildfire will have to provide leadership

and set examples to move us towards a state where we can live with wildfire,” he says. “Meanwhile wildfire will continue to gain force across the landscape.”

Silviculturalist says managing fuel key to mitigating wildfireKirsten HildebrandWest Kootenay Advertiser

Judging two neighbouring cities for the international Communities in Bloom (CiB) competition is unusual and has left two judges with a lasting impression of scenery, wildlife and landscape in the West Kootenay. For the first time, Castle-gar is competing against Trail in the inter-national Communities in Bloom compe-tition, for a population of under 10,000.

The neighbouring cities are facing off against Pembroke, Ont; Citta di Saviglia-no, Cueno (Italy); and Sidmouth, Devon (UK). “It is very unusual to have two com-peting cities in such close proximity,” said CiB judge Robert Ivison.

“With similar climate and locations the natural environment is quite similar,”

he said. Ivison, from England, and Alain Cappelle, from Belgium, have been to Canada for five previous CiB competi-tions but never to this area, and never to judge two cities only 30 kilometres apart.

“We’ve really enjoyed the scenery, it’s wonderful,” said Ivison. The CiB judges stopped in Castlegar on July 16 and 17, before a two-day tour of Trail.

Ivison is a leading consultant for the development and management of parks and open spaces in England, and has been judging internationally for years.

Cappelle has a degree in landscape and garden architecture and runs a landscap-ing planning office int he town of Nieu-wpoort (Belgium) with a team of six gar-deners. In addition to colour, texture and balance in gardens, the trend of sustain-ability is an aspect to the competition that

both judges look for. “We look to see how people are adapt-

ing to climate change,” said Ivison.“This competition is not just about

growing flowers, there is a lot more to it than that.”

Castlegar’s CiB tour included a peony demonstration garden at the Heritage Sta-tion Museum; vegetable gardens at Kin-naird Elementary and Blueberry Creek Community School; and various xeri-scaping (reduced water use) sites.

“We focused on environmental sustain-ability this year,” said Darlene Kalawsky, CiB member. “We are looking at the fu-ture, “showing citizens how to develop gardens and plants that after a year will virtually grow on their own.” Trail CiB is celebrating the city’s Scottish Heritage this year and transformed the Gyro Park

walkway into “Avenue of the Clans” where nearly 30 banners made from tartan pat-terns of Trail’s Scottish pioneer families were hung from the pathway light posts.

Trail’s nearly 50 parks, which include 105 acres of sports, passive and green space, was highlighted along with the continuous work on the white garden (a recreation of the Sissinghurst Castle Gar-den in England) located on the Esplanade, a new garden at the top of Glover Road hill that features a rock wall, a new play-ground in Sunningdale and interpretive signage that explains the significance of Trail’s historical murals.

The judges left the area on Saturday and headed to Ontario to complete their Ca-nadian visit.

The final results from judging will be announced in Ottawa in October.

Through the Walls of Time

Twenty- rst in a series on West Koote-nay/Boundary place names.

Our installment on the War eld suburb of Annable brought an interesting call from Castlegar resident Betty Jane McLeod, whose father Andrew Carlson worked for its namesake, George Malcolm (Mac) An-nable (1858-1938), from about 1913 to 1918.

“My father said he had an uproar-ious, unforgettable laugh,” McLeod says. (Indeed, Annable’s biography was enti-tled e Laugh at Shook the West!)

McLeod, 86, re-counts that Annable sold a horse to some-one, which soon died. When the purchaser complained, Annable replied “ at’s funny —  he never died be-fore!’”

Annable came to B.C. in 1899 from Moose Jaw, where he was a cattle rancher, land speculator, and politician, serving in the Assiniboia as-sembly as Alberta and Saskatchewan entered confederation.

On a 5,000 acre property near Trail, he established a ranch and sawmill. He also acquired 800 acres between Castlegar and Blueberry, which he cleared and plant-ed apple trees and other fruit.

“ at’s where my father worked for him rst,” McLeod says. e Annables were also logging around Violin Lake. “Father was very innovative and had a ume built to bring logs down to the mill. Apparently Mr. Annable was very impressed.”

One day McLeod’s father was in the barnyard when Mac’s wife Berdie said their daughter-in-law was in labour and had to get to the hospital in Rossland.

“My father har-nessed up a horse and sleigh and started out, but before they got there it became apparent they were not going to beat the stork,” McLeod says. “ ey came gallop-ing around the corner and the sleigh went up on one edge and threw them both out into the snow. My father took o his coat and delivered the baby then and

there. ey eventual-ly arrived safely at the hospital.”

McLeod’s moth-er’s family, the Kil-loughs, also became well acquainted with the Annables in Sas-katchewan, where her grandfather had a farm outside Regina. He borrowed money from Annable, but was unable to make his payments and lost the farm to foreclo-sure.

“Mr. Annable didn’t want to turn this Irishman and his nine children out on the prairie with noth-ing, so he said ‘I’ve acquired 800 acres in B.C. and you can live there and buy the place from me if you can manage it.’”

e family arrived in April 1913 in what became Kinnaird. ey tried “every-thing imaginable” to make a living, from growing strawberries to beekeeping, but fate dealt a series of unfortunate blows, including the loss of a son in World War I.

George Annable himself eventually got out of cattle ranch-ing because the Trail smelter polluted his grasslands and pas-tures. He moved to Vancouver in the late 1920s and spent his last days on Valdes Island.

His younger broth-er Jack, meanwhile, served as mayor of Nelson and built the Annable block, which is marking its centen-nial this year.

HAFI adapts homes for B.C. seniors and people with disabilities

Brenda has always been an active woman. However, recent health issues including osteoarthritis in her left knee and losing kidney function have slowed her down. Her mobility is limited and she is now on dialysis three days a week. To adjust to her changed circumstances, Brenda sought help with her daily living activities.

Part of that help came from the Home Adaptations for Independence (HAFI) program offered through BC Housing. Launched in January 2012, the HAFI program provides financial assistance to help eligible low-income seniors and people with disabilities adapt their homes so they can continue to live independently.

Brenda applied for a new walk-in bathtub because she couldn’t safely get out of the tub on her own. Walk-in tubs include additional safety measures such as anti-slip floors, grab bars, and a very low step in.

Home adaptations may also include handrails in halls or stairs, ramps for

easier access, easy-to-reach work and storage areas in the kitchen, lever handles on doors or faucets, walk-in showers, and bathtub grab bars and seats.

Brenda is a strong advocate for the program and has even shared HAFI brochures with nurses in the renal unit where she undergoes dialysis. If you or someone you know is having difficulty performing day-to-day activities safely and independently – the HAFI program may be able to help.

Since the program began, more than 300 households completed renovations with HAFI financial assistance, making it possible for seniors and people with disabilities to continue to live in the safety and comfort of their home.

Conditions were ideal for the Pass Creek Gospel Music Festival held Satur-day night at the fair-grounds.

Getting started at 6:30, the sun was go-

ing behind the nearby trees as close to 200 faithful settled in to enjoy a varied pro-gram of sacred music.

A group called the Fehr Family from Southern Alberta headlined an assort-ment of performers that included the

Castlegar Pentecostal New Life Assembly Singers and Band, the Kinnaird Church of God Singers, and a Castlegar Bluegrass Group. The one-night event appeared to be quite a success, and organizer John Phil-lips told the crowd

a three-day event is being considered for the future. He asked the crowd to help in deciding whether to expand next year, by going online and of-fering feedback.

The tight-knit group of employ-ees who worked at the closed Mount St. Francis are interested in continuing the ties that bound them.

An informal re-union planned for September will re-unite workers from the long-term care centre that opened in 1950 and closed 10 years ago.

Betty Craig was a former head nurse at Mount St. Fran-cis. She says her col-leagues were a close group, many of which

still stay in touch and ask about those who don’t. “We shared a lot of emotion there-fore we became very close,” she told 103.5 The Bridge.

She described her co-workers as a typi-cal family that could have its fights and feuds but were always there to stick up for each other.

The reunion is planned for Septem-ber 6 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Rotary Shelter at Lakeside Park.

For further infor-mation please contact Betty Craig at 250-352-7153 or email her at [email protected].

Sculpture Talk

‘Mother and Child’ (bronze)

Formerly an art, history and English Literature teacher, Joseph Castle’s sculptures are informed by his past profession and honed through clas-sical training in anatomy, drawing and painting. More recently, personal growth, natural surroundings and evolving relationships have in u-enced his sculpture, resulting in a less exacting, more visceral approach to his work.

As he explains, “Early in my career my work exempli ed exact propor-tional geometry. It was calculated and disciplined, requiring signi cant mathematical analysis to create. My inspiration was to re ne my work to its basic essence. I have shi ed my

attention to reveal that essence… display [it] raw in a primordial arche-typal narrative.”

e piece he has on display here, ‘Mother and Child’ is a wonderful example of the balance and exacting form obtained through years of prac-tice along with tutelage at Barnstone Studies in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where Castle continues to instruct as a professional associate. It also proj-ects the many in uences he incorpo-rates in his bronzes: symbolism, con-trasting states and the nature of them in relation to the work.

A warm hand envelops and cradles a small, barely developed, circular head into an open space created by the bulk of the hand and the encircling ngers. Everlasting love, the moment of birth, union, connectivity – all are symbol-ized in a work that ows harmoni-ously in perfect balance and smooth, rapturous simplicity. It is a moving, powerful statement to the special bond that is the subject and title of the piece.‘Mother and Child’ was one of Castle’s earliest public art pieces, commis-sioned by the Friends of Cities Li-brary in Redlands, California. Since then, his work has been exhibited in many states, from Georgia to Min-nesota to Washington. His sculptures reside in over 17 private collections, including that of former United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rums-feld and his wife Joyce. He lives now in Bellevue, Idaho with his artistic de-signer wife Michelle Feldman Castle and their family; the openness and

relative remove of their surroundings is a major contributor to the gradual shi in his style.

“In Idaho’s wide-open wild spaces and endless skies, my work has be-come more visceral,” he notes. “As I hike through Idaho’s alpine forests and desolate sagebrush I o en come across remnants of animals. I collect structures from di erent species, and then join them in new ways to create unique creatures that speak of time-less themes.”

He has incorporated some of his bone ndings into a series of bronze reliefs that guratively and symbolically tell of passages in his life, and are re ec-tive of his surroundings. Displayed to compliment the nature abundant in his current environment, the gradual evolution and maturation in his style is apparent. Always though, - as de-picted so gracefully in ‘Mother and Child’ – form, ow and emotion are ever-present in his stylistically evolv-ing work.

‘Letting Go’ (forged steel)

Minnesota artist Judd Nelson has been sculpting for a lot of years, and he ob-viously found his passion early on. By seventeen he had his own set of weld-ing tanks and entry into his rst juried show. ese days, he teaches the skills acquired over the years to neophytes the same age he was when he started, o ering instruction for teens at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts.

Growing up in Minnesota, where the state motto (it’s on the license plates too) is Land of 10,000 Lakes, nature was always close at hand for Nelson. He loved to study the animals in the forests and lakes, and recreating the fauna of his home state in reclaimed

metal is something he’s done ever since – with a few detours along the way.

“ I graduated from the University of Minnesota with an art education de-gree in 1969 - with a major emphasis on metal sculpture, believe me,” he laughs. “It’s always been my focus, but shortly a er graduating I ended up teaching art to Sioux children on a South Dakota reservation for a few years. A er that I taught at a public school in Boise, Idaho before return-ing home.”

Nelson worked for years in public television on the set of Hometime, a national home building show. He was in front of the camera as lead builder and also behind them as project coor-dinator and consultant. ese days, in addition to teaching (he spends sum-mers in Grand Marais in the extreme northeast of the state on the shores of Lake Superior, instructing a class at the local art colony), he’s focused on his sculpting – almost exclusively the same animals he studied and bonded with as a child.

e sculpture Nelson is presenting here is almost an exception in that re-gard. He doesn’t usually sculpt human gures, but ‘Letting Go’ still has an avian component. It is lovely and lan-guid. A young woman stretches on tip toes, skirt ounced and braids hang-ing from her upward angled head. e arms balance beautifully, one pointed downward as the other stretches fully skyward to release a hawk from her ngertips.

Stylistically, it incorporates Nelson trademark openings, so that space plays an important part in the visual appreciation, and reddish-brown pa-tinas. Like the many species of birds – to say nothing of turtles, rabbits and the occasional lizard – Nelson sculpts, ‘Letting Go’ is representational and im-pressionistic.

“My style is to be uid and spontane-ous, intent upon capturing move-ment and natural gestures,” he says. “Obviously, working with steel means exacting detail isn’t part of the nished sculpture. It’s one reason openings are important to my work, you can look into and through them. It creates an interesting dynamic.”

‘Letting Go’ is certainly dynamic, but it is also graceful and full of conveyance. Nelson’s statement for his sculpture gets the message he lives by across, simply and eloquently.

Cell phone service in the Kootenay Boundary region is dicey to non existent at times.

And being such a sparsely populated and largely rural area, the region is also not high on the priority list for improving cellular service.

But the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is spearheading a campaign to improve the service in the region. And it is com-

ing, said RDKB chair Larry Gray, it will just take some time.

At the June 20 RDKB board of directors meeting

Gray talked about possible improvements to cellular coverage in the highway corridors across the region-al district.

During a phone call to discuss other matters, Gray had the opportunity to ask Doug Anastos, of Telus Communications, about the possible improvements to cellular coverage in the Highway 3 and 3B corri-dors, which include Ross-land, Castlegar, Trail and Grand Forks.

Gray said Telus was

non-committal but was looking to have further an-swers in the coming weeks, and if there was news that he would contact the regional district with the news.

Anastos reiterated that Telus has 1,700 kilometres of highway corridor in B.C. to cover by the end of 2016, much of which is in the northern part of the prov-ince.

“And there is a stronger economic development case in Northern B.C.,” Gray said in a report to the board.

It’s the time of year when many of us en-joy cooking outdoors - in parks, camp-grounds and back yards. This pleasur-able summer pastime of casual dining also provides ideal condi-tions for outbreaks of foodborne illness.

Foodborne ill-ness peaks during the months of May through September because of barbecu-ing and outdoor eat-ing. E. coli, Salmonel-la and Campylobacter are examples of some of the many bacteria related to handling raw meats and oth-er perishable food items. That’s why it’s vital to be sure items are refrigerated, well cooked and handled with care.

Outdoor chefs should keep food safety in mind as they are preparing sum-mer feasts. These four

words can help you reduce the risk:

Clean: Wash your hands with soap and warm water before and after handling food. Wash all dish-es, cutting boards and counters with hot soapy water.

Separate: Keep raw foods away from cooked foods to avoid cross-contamination. Store raw meat at the bottom of the fridge or cooler to prevent juices from dripping onto other foods. Al-ways use a clean plate when taking cooked meat off the barbecue.

Cook: Proper-ly cooking food will kill harmful bacteria. Cook all meat to the appropriate internal temperature - see Health Canada’s Safe Internal Cooking Temperatures chart (google Health Can-ada and search for food safety options)

for more details. Use a digital food ther-mometer to measure the inside tempera-ture of cooked meats. Once cooked, keep

hot foods at 60ºC or hotter until ready to serve.

Chill: Always thaw meat in the fridge,

microwave, or under cold running water – never at room tem-perature. Do not let cooked food sit out at room temperature

or in the sun for more than two hours. Cool any leftovers right away. Finally, keep cold foods cold at 4ºC or lower.

City Park in Grand Forks was abuzz with activity last weekend as the BMX track hosted over 80 riders from throughout the province in several events including a provincial champi-onship series race on Sunday.

“We put this pro-vincial race on every year, usually on this July weekend,” said Margaret Kovacs, treasurer for Grand Forks BMX Soci-ety. “We get riders from throughout the Okanagan and Lower Mainland. It’s just a great weekend here in Grand Forks.”

Kovacs said every track needs to run a provincial series race and riders need to attend four of those races to qualify for provincial plates.

“A lot of these fam-ilies do a lot of trav-elling in the summer months as the kids try to accumulate points towards pro-vincial,” she said.

BMX is truly for all ages as the race in Grand Forks has rid-ers starting at three years-old in the Big Wheels Push catego-ry, right up to riders in their 50s and ev-erything in between, according to Kovacs.

“The riders are placed in appropriate categories in their age groups,” she said.

The Grand Forks club was well repre-sented at its home meet with 25 rid-ers racing in several different categories. Also from the West Kootenay, Salmo had a strong contingent of riders.

“This weekend, the Grand Forks riders haven’t done all that great but we have some promising kids out there,” said Ko-vacs. “A lot of our kids just come out for the fun. Most of our kids don’t trav-el much. We do our regular Wednesday night races and then they participate in a few races. It’s hard to get everyone out on a regular basis but we do what we can.”

On Friday, the

course hosted a scholarship race with proceeds going to scholarships for grad-uating riders from throughout Canada and the United States.

Saturday saw the “Race for Life” take place at the bike park. All the proceeds from the races fees from Saturday will go to-wards BC Children’s Hospital for leukemia research.

“We’ve had a great weekend,” said Ko-vacs. “We had a lot of great volunteers come out and help us. We had the Elks here with the pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. It’s great for the campers, who are getting tired by Sun-day.”

Local Jacob McAr-thur, who took sec-ond in the 10 year-old Intermediate catego-ry, enjoyed the week-end and was pleased with his silver medal finish.

“It went pretty good,” he said. “I’ve been getting firsts and seconds. The track is pretty smooth and really fast. It’s fun to come out here (and race).”

McArthur, who is in his second year with the Grand Forks BMX Club, said his strategy is to go fast and not let anyone cut him off. He tries to focus on himself on the track and not worry about the other riders.

“It’s fun to BMX,” he said. “I’ve always liked biking. It’s fun just to race. It’s fun to come out with the club. They’re really nice people.”

Changes close to home and with your family are likely themes. Some measure of cleaning, clearing, renovating and moving altogether are a source of passion, excitement and drama.

TAURUS (APR 20 – MAY 21)A busy round of activities continues to keep you busy. A key world in it all is commitment. Endurance, perseverance and stubborn adherence to your priorities, goals and plans are other ways of describing it. Focusing to invest versus simply to spend is extra important. Efforts to establish a more secure foundation will prove extra valuable later. So do it now.

GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUN 21)With so many places to go and people to see, you are in your element. Beyond the rich array of excitement and hopeful fun, deeper considerations of establishing a more secure lifestyle rhythm is underway. It is quite important that you take this seriously. This implies extra effort, discipline and a willingness to learn. Aim to establish a foundation of whole health.

CANCER (JUN 21 – JUL 22)An expansive cycle continues. You are likely feeling inspired to take a few risks or to advance your position somehow. This impulse will linger well into 2014. Yet, this is no time to be in a rush neither. All the while, deeper spiritual activations and awakenings are owing in steadily. If these are not obvious, take a moment to tune-in to receive the blessings.

LEO (JUL 22 – AUG 23)The Sun in your signs is an indication that you are ready to take some pioneering, creative leads. You are digging deeper these days that you have perhaps for a long time. You are determined to lay claim to bigger dreams and hidden powers. This may be stirring some fears. Accessing deeper reserves of faith is important for success. You can do it!

VIRGO (AUG 23 – SEP 22)Expanding your scope and network is an important theme these days. The time is right to collaborate and cooperate with other key players. Who these are and what you need to do is the creative question you must answer. For now, working behind the scenes is important. Aim to establish secure foundations on a variety of fronts.

LIBRA (SEP 22 – OCT 22)Some big, exciting and noticeable changes are shaking in your world. These are linked to increased exposure, responsibility and opportunity. Yet, you must be willing to pay your dues and invest as necessary. In the short term, quality time shared with friends new and old will be the warm sun drying up any lingering puddles from yesteryear.

SCORPIO (OCT 22 – NOV 21)The time has come to advance your position. This includes getting the attention you want, need, and have earned and feel you deserve. Approaching authority gures for to facilitate this process is likely and ideal. This is your window so do not wait. Even by simply activating a process you will be on track and in-tune with your time.

SAGITTARIUS (NOV 21 – DEC 21)A process of completion and closure continues yet the main thrust of it has entered the next phase. The good news is that these endings are also bringing rewards, perhaps unexpected ones. Look upon the overall process as an important graduation process. Imagine things did not change and there was no such thing as graduation! Accept, trust and celebrate this ow.

CAPRICORN (DEC 21 – JAN 19)The time has come clear the old to make way for the new. Whether by choice or circumstances beyond your control, you are experiencing something of a change of the guards. The good news is that this is increasing your overall exposure; hopefully you want this to happen. That this is shaking things up deep within you and close to home is part of the deal.

AQUARIUS (JAN 19 – FEB 19)An activation of new associations, friendships and deeper relationships too is underway. This may be causing some of your con dences to waver. Aim to establish new foundations and fortify old ones. From this platform your con dences to expand your outreach will increase. Awakening to new modes of perception, to recognize alternative approaches, is a golden key.

PISCES (FEB 19 – MAR 20)You have embarked upon a special and important creative curve. It is leading you to consider new values, priorities and possibilities. There is some measure of diversity implied so avoid single minded approaches or singular projects. The other challenge however will be to advance each of these in equal measure. Be willing to do the rounds to advance on all fronts!

Horoscope for the Week July 26, 2013Horoscope for theTip of the Week: The waves caused by the ongoing line-up of planets continue to wash in. These are invariably producing synchronistic events and subsequent changes for people both individually and collectively and on many fronts. Sometimes according to our cycles and circumstances these produce reaction, yet proactive response ever remains part of the game and an ever present possibility. One of the keys to proactive response is to live with deepened self-awareness and the consequent vision that it affords. Astrology is invaluable in this regard, when approached with a deepened appreciation of the valuable resource that it is. It is not the majority who do this yet. Directed by outer, social in uences, attitudes and norms people engage in the game of life con dent and justi ed in their actions. Yet, when our choices and actions are based on this outer directed mode of reasoning alone, we are less able to live more authentically, in-tune with a deeper sense of purpose and the subsequent harmony with others and life in general that it produces. The global environmental crisis which remains and will for decades to come, at least, is an example of it. This is one of the deeper messages that are surfacing from the sum of colossal stir of cosmic energies at play. That a key feature of these encompasses a period reaching to 2026 when Neptune enters Aries offers us a fairly wide time frame within which to focus and set our intentions. Regarding the more current cycles, the Great Grand Trine in Water Signs that of cially began on July 17 is lingering and is being reinforced by Mars. On July 27th Mars forms an exact Opposition to Pluto on the same day that the Moon forms a Conjunction with Uranus and then will actually form a Square to Uranus on July 31, thereby reinforcing the lingering and potent Square aspect between Uranus and Pluto. Thus, this is when Mars weaves the Water Grand Trine with the Uranus/Pluto Square. The in uence of this will speci cally continue until April 2014. The entries for each sign below offers more speci c insight for each of the 12 archetypes of the Zodiac and you can gain even more from my Newsletters. Send me an email to subscribe. We are living in monumental times – stay tuned!
