Invent a fictional episode related to thing that matters to you. It could be based on a real episode, but should then be embellished with additional conflict, elements of setting, other characters, symbolism, or other literary elements. You might include: a. Description of circumstances related to the thing b. Reasons why the thing matters c. Descriptions of the circumstances in which it came to matter to you d. Images you associate with the thing (sights, sounds, smells, etc) e. Who or what opposes the thing that matters to you f. An ideal outcome or future related to the thing g. Challenges to the thing that matters h. Any other thoughts or details related to the thing that matters 12. After completing your list, go back and reread it. Please highlight 15 phrases that you like for one reason or another. Copy those 15 phrases and paste them into a new document. 13. Rearrange the phrases, filling in with additional words and phrases, and make your list into a poem. You may add or delete anything you want during this process. You have control of the process, but you should be writing a poem. 14. Spend about 30 minutes on this task. 15. Listen in class as Mr. West goes through several “Poetry Revision” tricks to improve your poem. 16. Revise your poem. 17. If you do not finish in class, please finish as homework. 18.
