Dear Readers,

Fortunately, there's not only a wind breezing across the

North Sea to power the new "alpha ven-tus" offshore wind farm, the economy is also feeling the first winds of recovery beneath its wings. Alongside the recov-ery already evident in many sectors, the machine construction market is now also showing signs of improvement. When it comes to exports, the German economy is also benefiting from the Euro being un-der slight pressure at the present time. We at HELUKABEL® are taking an opti-mistic view of the future in any event. This year, we will be making further technical advancements to our existing products and introducing new innovative products onto the market. We will be focusing on both the product side and on providing an even higher quality of service and even shorter lead times.

We hope you enjoy reading the latest edi-tion of HELUnews.

HELUKABEL® presents the new TRAY cable with US approvals: TRAYCONTROL 600HELUKABEL® successfully launched the new cable on the American market in autumn last year, where its outstand-ing characteristics for applications in the automotive sector, in plant construction and in the foodstuffs industry have already proved their worth. As a single cable, TRAYCONTROL 600 satisfies the three most important American approvals for open installation: TC-ER, PLTC-ER & ITC-ER and therefore does not – as is normally the case in the USA – to be installed in closed cable ducts or pipes. The open installation (exposed run = ER), from the cable rack to machines and industrial systems, creates an enormous time advantage and hence an equally important cost benefit. Quick installation and easy handling in constricted spaces is also facilitated by the much higher flex-ibility of the HELUKABEL®

TOYOTA PARTS CENTER EUROPE relies on SOLARFLEX-X®

For many years now, Toyota has been setting benchmarks for effectiveness, quality and sustainability in industrial production – and not only in the automotive sector. Hardly a big surprise, then, that a solar plant has now been installed at the Toyota Parts Center Europe in Belgium. Toyota relies on the quality of our SOLARFLEX®-X solar cabling to ensure the panels are cabled effectively and economically.

TRAYCONTROL 600 over conventional TRAY cables. The cable is also set apart by its highly-effective oil resistance (OIL RES I) and a special version to OIL RES II is also produced for wind turbines. This conforms to Standard WTTC 1000 V (WTTC = Wind Turbine Tray Cable), has passed the tough flame test to CSA FT4 and is of course UV resistant. TRAYCONTROL 600 can

be supplied, usually ex-stock, either unscreened or screened, from 1 mm2 to 50mm2, from HELUKABEL® Germany and USA, larger or smaller cross-sections being produced on request. In addition to the

TRAY cable described here, HELUKABEL® has devised a new generation of control, servo, drag chain and data cables. These implement the developments in the American standards boards and will be presented at the 2010 Hanover trade fair. It would give us great pleasure to wel-come you to our Stand C90 in Hall 13.

The 4th generation At your service Cable Accessories | HELUTOP® glands

The new generation of EMC glands has arrived! The benefits to you in use:

Simple cable installation Open contact springs make it easier to in-sert the cable from both sides. The cable can be moved freely in an axial and radial direction.

Vibration resistant High vibration resistance thanks to minimum clearance be-tween clamping range and contact range. Re-liable EMC screening even in rugged appli-cations.

Reliable contact

The enlarged contact surfaces permit the free axial and radial movement of the cable, even with closed electrical contact, while guaranteeing a low transition resistance.

Characteristics

The perfect wire for solar modulesWith our SOLARFLEX®-X PV1-F HELUKABEL® we offer a product in our designated Green Line, which is in the scope of our long lasting commitment to

renewable energies and has TÜV and VDE certifications along with the highest

quality standards typical for HELUKABEL® products. The cable, produced in our

own factory in Windsbach near Nuremberg, can be delivered ex-warehouse

in cross-sections of 2.5 to 16 mm². On top of that, SOLARFLEX®-X PV1-F even

beats competitors’ prices. The wire is used globally in stand-alone and networked systems as a module or branch wire. Both insulation layers are

set-off coloured from each other for improved handling: black sheathing on

natural colour conductor insulation in the standard version, or optionally, red

or blue sheathing to simplify local installation. A version designed as a twin

wire is also available.

The team from Darmstadt Technical University, which represented Germany in the Solar Decathlon, had every reason to celebrate in the American capital over the week-end of October 17 and 18, 2009: they won, for the second time in succession, the renowned architecture and energy technology competition. The Solar Decathlon is an international competition run by the American Department of Energy, which involves 20 university teams competing

HELUKABEL® descends into the underworld, but only to develop a special cable for controlling channel robots (manipulators). The HK-SO-Roboflex cable was designed, constructed and produced specifically for use in humid, constricted and dark channels. It makes sewer renovation,

which is usually inaccessi-ble to humans and better suited to robots, a clean business – at least when it comes to localising potential damage. To be able to withstand the adverse external conditions,

this cable features a microbe and hydrolysis resistant sheath. As the robot can only travel forwards in the channel under its own power (six motors), it has to be pulled back-wards out of the channel. That's why the HK-SO-Roboflex uses an aramide fibre structure as a strain relief. The cable transmits live images to a screen in the control centre via a coaxial cable. To prevent the image quality being impaired by the environment, compressed air is supplied through two PA hoses to remove small obstacles and dirt from the camera.

The aim of the solar decathlon is to design a self-sustaining energy efficient building for habitation in the year 2015. The original buildings of the 20 participating universities were constructed on the National Mall in Washington (in the direct vicinity of the White House) and are compared in ten disciplines: architecture, market viability, construction, illumination, communication structure, thermal comfort, hot water, appliances, home entertainment and energy consumption.HELUKABEL® supported the Darmstadt TU team with the cabling for the PV module with its SOLARFLEX®-X PV1-F – a

Drag kite for fishing trawler

The "Maartje Theodora", at 141 m Germany's largest fish-ing vessel, is currently being fitted with the innova-tive SkySails system installed. The drag kit drive, for which HELUKABEL® developed a special pull cable with con-trol cable to hold and steer the 160 m² kite, has prov-en its capability in the 18-month pilot test on board the "MS Beluga". The sail produces a tensile load of 8 tonnes, equivalent to the thrust generated by an Airbus A318 engine. "We are expecting use of the SkySails system to achieve significant fuel cost saving, especially over the long voyages to the African coast and to the South Pacific and the wider perspective of fishing applications. Likewise, we are able to make drastically cuts in CO2 emissions over the year, thereby making a significant contribution to climate protec-tion", says Diederik Parlevliet (CEO) of the fishing company Parlevliet & Van der Plas B.V.
