Prep-1 Swimming Program The Prep and Year 1 students have been attending a Swimming Program at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre over the past two weeks. All children have been developing their water confidence skills, independence in changing and looking after their belongings while participating fully in and enjoying all of the activities in the pool. The program will conclude on Friday of this week. If your child has lost any clothing during the swimming program it may be found in the ‘Swimming Lost Property’ tub that is located next to the Lost Property cupboard in the main building. Thanks are expressed to all of the parents who have visited the pool over the past two weeks to support their children during the program. Sun Smart-Hats All children are required to wear hats at all times when outside this term. This includes Physical Education activities and excursions. Hats are available for purchase from the office for $14 and the new hats have the Wembley logo on the front. Parents are encouraged to write their child’s name and class clearly on the inside of the hat so that they may be returned, if misplaced or lost. Children who do not have sun smart, broad-brimmed hats (caps are not approved suns smart hats) will not be allowed to play in the playground and will be directed to the shaded, eating area. Parents are also asked to ensure that their child/ren have applied sunscreen first thing in the morning, before coming to school.

Prep 2016 Interviews-Thursday On Thursday members of the Leadership Team (Kevin Chigwidden, Taxia Katsouranis, Annmaree Jones and Ang Petridis) will be interviewing new Prep students and their parents. Parents have been able to book a suitable appointment time using our on-line system, ‘School Interviews On-Line’. If you have a Prep child commencing school in 2016 and have not yet booked an interview time you may contact the office for a suitable time. The on-line booking process will close at 5pm on Wednesday. Year 2 Camp Cottage By the Sea Last week the Year 2 students participated in a two day, one night camp to Cottage By the Sea, Queenscliff and had a marvellous time. The itinerary was carefully planned to engage and motivate the children. Students and teachers visited the Marine Discovery Centre, played on the beach, participated in a Trivia Night, had a night walk and played a range of games around the camp grounds. The staff at the Cottage commented on how well behaved and what excellent manners our students demonstrated and indicated that they would welcome Wembley back again next year. Thank you to the staff who attended the camp Juliet Taylor, Gael Howard, Debbie Arnheim, Josh Shuttleworth, Donna Lourensz, Tom Rosenberg, Miles Watt, Annmaree Jones and Claire Crozier. A special mention to Josh Shuttleworth who took responsibility for organizing such a successful camp. !Wembley Camping Program 2016 The School Council approved a change to the Wembley Camping Policy at a recent meeting. The Camping Policy can be viewed on the school website. From 2016 all students in Years 2, 3, 4 5 and 6 will have the opportunity of attending a camp. To assist parents in planning the following activities/camps have been booked for 2016. Prep-Breakfast or Dinner and games at school-early December Year 1-Dinner, games and perhaps a sleepover at school-late November/early December Year 2-Cottage By the Sea, Queenscliff, Wednesday 2 November-Friday 4 November (two groups) two days, one night Year 3-The Island, Phillip Island, Monday 21 November to Wednesday 23 November, three days, two nights Year 4-Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, Wednesday 30 November to Friday 2 December, three days, two nights Year 5-Kangaroobie, Great Ocean Road, Anglesea, Monday 21 November- Friday 25 November, five days, four nights Year 6-Canberra, Monday 29 February to Friday 4 March, five days, four nights The decision to hold camps every year has been a popular one with students, parents and teachers and provides students with opportunities to develop independence and social skills. All camp activities are linked to the Essential Learnings. More information regarding the camps will be available closer to the dates. Parent assistance is welcome and highly appreciated in supporting the camping program throughout the year. Student Toilet refurbishment main building During the recent school holidays School Council undertook the complete
These toilets are for the use of the Prep and Year 1 students during class time so they do not have to access the outside toilets. Regional Athletics Yesterday 22 students represented Wembley at the Regional Athletics Carnival at Keilor Athletic Track. They were accompanied by Benson Steere and Kelleigh Evans. The Year 9/10 Boys Relay Team was successful in their event and will be going to the next level of competition-the State Championships (date and venue to be advised). Congratulations to all of the children who participated in the carnival and demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship on the day. Thank you to Mr Steere and Ms Evans for their coaching and support on the day. Please see the attached ‘Sports Snippets’, which outlines all the highlights and achievements of the day. Planning for 2016 Term 4 is the time that we start our planning for the coming year. If your child will not be returning to Wembley in 2016 for any reason, please notify the office as soon as possible. In the coming weeks teachers will commence the process of class formation for 2016. Class structure will be notified in future newsletters and if parents have any information that will help us with student placement please contact Annmaree Jones via letter or email concerning this. Dyslexia Empowerment Week Next week is Dyslexia Empowerment Week. We will be celebrating with a Morning Tea on Wednesday 21 October from 10:40-11:00am. Students with Dyslexia and parents of students with Dyslexia, together with any other parents interested are invited to attend this morning tea in the staffroom, with the staff at Wembley Primary School. Following this, there will be an opportunity to meet with Cathy Harrison, Annmaree Jones and Vassie Vatsilas-D’Arcangelo to have a conversation about Dyslexia at Wembley PS and to answer any questions. To RSVP, please contact the school office, if you are able to attend. Thank you JSC Disco-Term 3-lost black trench coat The Carranballac Rock Band entertained the students at the end of Term 3 at the disco that was planned by the Junior School Council. Students, teachers and parents had a great time, dancing and singing along to a variety of popular music. The disco was the culmination of all the events that were planned throughout Term 3 to celebrate and showcase our wonderful Performing Arts program. Thanks is expressed to Gina Tan, Music Teacher, for organizing all of the visiting musicians and performances that provided enriching, musical experiences for all of our students. A black trench coat, size 10 (Jacquie E) was left in the hall at the end of the disco and it can be collected from the office. Welcome to My Art Exhibition My name is Genevieve Gadd. Westgate Basketball Association, your local association, is running the Aussie Hoops Summer programme for boys and girls 6-10 years old. Sessions are run at the indoor stadium at VU Community Sports Stadium, Whitten Oval, with skill sessions, fun drills and friendly games. The sessions are run by Representative level youth basketball players and give kids a terrific grounding in the fundamental skills for the game.So if you were wondering whether your child might just be the next Steph Curry, stop wondering and find out! Come along, make new friends and see for yourself why basketball is the most popular youth sport in Australia.Sessions are run Thursday afternoons or Saturday Mornings. Aussie Hoops is run on behalf of Basketball Victoria.
