St John’s First Aid In Schools Program This week we were visited by members of St John’s Ambulance, who presented a lesson on safety and first aid for every class. The forty-five minute sessions were informative and engaging for the children, who keenly shared their knowledge and experiences. Students participated in several safety scenarios, practised calling the 000 Emergency number and giving relevant information, during the sessions. It is important for all children to know their telephone number and address in an emergency situation. The First Aid program is a free service provided by St John’s Ambulance for primary school aged students. Each student received a certificate of participation, an emergency contact card and an activity booklet to complete at home. If you are interested in learning more about the program or purchasing a First Aid Kit to help with the costs of the program you can go to the following website: http://www.stjohnvic.com.au/fundraise-with-us Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday There will be no school on Monday 13 June due to the Queen’s Birthday Public holiday. Parent-Teacher Interviews Wednesday 22 June has been set aside by School Council as a Pupil Free Day at Wembley and parents are invited to attend school during the day to meet with their child’s class teacher to discuss achievements and progress over the Semester. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the interview so that parents, students and teachers can celebrate the successes, share some work and set some goals for the coming term.

Interviews will be held between 11.00am and 7.00pm. The Out of School Hours Care program will be operating on this day for parents who require childcare and bookings can be made by calling Deborah or Victoria on 93149358. Information on how to book interviews was sent home with students previously. If you have not been able to book an interview time please contact the Sentral Helpdesk at: [email protected] Payment of School Excursion Levy and Fees Parents are reminded that payment for all excursions is due. Reminder notes were sent out to parents this week via Sentral. To ensure that your child is able to participate in excursions and school visits please ensure that the excursion levy is paid in full. If you need to arrange a payment plan for levies or if you have any questions concerning your account please contact Rosie in the office. Reports End Of Semester Reports can be accessed via the Sentral Parent Portal from Monday 20th June 2016. This will be the first time at Wembley Primary School that our reports will be completely online and not printed. If you are having trouble accessing Sentral, please email the specialised Sentral Helpdesk: [email protected] Wembley Primary School tiqbiz App Dear Parents and Carers, Exciting News! Last Friday we launched a school app called tiqbiz. Each student received a pack containing individual registration information. This app is NOT part of Sentral. For ongoing reporting and individual student absence information, you will still need to access Sentral. The school will be using tiqbiz to send out the school newsletter, general updates, reminders, events and much, much more! tiqbiz is available on iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android Phone, Android Tablet and Windows phone devices. We kindly ask that you download tiqbiz on your device, register a free account then find and tick the school.
Download and register with the tiqbiz app before 9am Friday 10 June and you will go in the draw to win a class prize!!!
Kind Regards, The Communication Sub Committee Parking and Driving Around the School In recent weeks several parents have expressed concern about the safety of students and the traffic problems around the school both in the mornings and at the end of the school day. Neighbours have contacted the school, reporting various concerns regarding morning drop offs. Parents are asked to diligently obey the road rules and council parking restrictions in order to ensure the safety of all of the families at Wembley Primary School. Parking officers regularly patrol the local school environment to monitor the parking conditions and issue infringements, if warranted.

End of Term 2 The term will end on Friday 24 June with an assembly at 2.00pm. At this end of term assembly the major raffle prizes will be drawn and dismissal will follow at 2.15pm. Students Riding Bicycles to School Another area of concern is the safety of students riding their bikes to school. On Friday afternoon it was reported to the school that several Wembley students were riding their bikes along Wembley Avenue, not holding onto the handle bars and riding unsafely. It has also been reported that students were riding across Francis Street and not using the school crossing. All students who ride their bikes to school are expected to wear a properly fitted safety helmet, obey all road rules and ride in a safe and sensible manner. If students need to cross Wembley Avenue or Francis Street they must do so at the crossings that are supervised by a School Crossing Supervisor every afternoon. ART SHOWS - Term 3 2016 The dates for the Art Shows for this year have been announced and as follows for your information: Junior School Exhibition - Wednesday 27 - Saturday 30 July Senior School Exhibition - Wednesday 31 August - Saturday 3 September. The Art Shows will take a different format this year and this will be explained to parents later this term. Ruth Branthwaite and Matt Symmons, Art teachers have been collaborating and planning the event and there will many exciting things in store for our school community. UPCOMING SCHOOL HOLIDAY BASKETBALL CAMPS Melbourne United are running school holiday camps at Altona Stadium on Thursday 30th June & Friday 1st July.
