Thank you and Start Date for 2020 As your Principal for Term 4, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support of the Wembley community. I have been privileged to serve you as your temporary leader and would like to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2020 and beyond.

Our teachers will begin 2020 on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th January as they work on classroom preparation and set up and collaborative curriculum planning.

As you all enjoy the summer break, could I please remind you that school will commence for our Year 1 to Year 6 students on Thursday 30th January 2020.

Prep students will commence school on Monday 3 February 2020.

Merry Christmas Wembley and Thank you.  Payment of Outstanding School Accounts Parents who currently have outstanding amounts owing to the school are asked to finalise all payments by the end of next week, Friday 14 December. This will assist the office in processing and receipting of payments.   2019 Student Reports The much anticipated 2019 Semester 2 student reports will be available on Sentral from 3:15pm on Monday 16th December. These reports are a reflection of each student as a learner and contain assessment against the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards. We encourage all parents to read the report with your child and reflect on their learning in Semester 2, 2019.

Prep Playground News Over the year, the Wembley Parent Community Group have raised close to $57,000 in their fundraising efforts. This is a huge acknowledgment for the WPCG and all our families and our community combined. This fundraising amount will contribute to our new Prep playground refurbishment. As a result, there will be staged works conducted on the playground and some areas will be restricted for use in the coming weeks. The expected

date of completion is the end of February 2020, and we expect that our students will once again show tolerance and resilience whilst adjustments are being made.  Wembley PS ‘Step Up’ Day and Year 6 Secondary School Orientation Day- Tuesday 10th December On Tuesday 10th December, students had the opportunity of spending an extended amount of time in their 2020 class with their new teacher and class peers. Teachers new to Wembley also attended on the day and we also welcomed new students to Wembley PS in 2020. This experience frontloaded students of who their teacher would be and their classmates for next year, allowing to begin and/or consolidate already formed relationships before the school holiday period.

As our Prep to Year 5 students experienced the ‘Step Up’ day, our existing Year 6 students headed off for an orientation visit to their new secondary school. We wish all our 2019 Year 6 students all the very best in their transition to secondary education in 2020 and know they have been provided the very best educational foundation for them to launch into their next chapter in life.  Christmas Hamper Raffle It is that special time of the year where we ask our families to donate items to be used in our Christmas Hamper Raffle. Donations can be left with Loredana at the office, whereby they will be packaged into baskets. Raffle ticket booklets have been distributed and tickets are 50 cents each or $5.00 per booklet. Your support in selling tickets and returning them to the office is much appreciated. Please ensure that a name, class or telephone number is recorded on the ticket stub. E.g.: Susie Jones Prep D. All tickets (and money) sold and unsold should be returned to the office by Wednesday 18 December. Raffles will be drawn at our final assembly on Friday 20 December. We thank you in anticipation of your support.

It is always sad to say goodbye to members of our staff. We wish them all well as they move on to new adventures, new positions and new beginnings. Some we will meet again as they are on leave for 12 months, however others will be sadly missed as they are moving on.

Farewell to:

● Belinda Passmore (Education Support Officer). Belinda has been with us for the last 5 years and has worked predominantly with three students during that time, as well as supporting teachers and classes and operating the sick bay during recess and lunch in the last few months. Belinda will be moving to Saltwater College to begin her position as an Education Support Officer.

● Georgina Dunne (Prep). Georgina has been with us for the last three years and has taught Year 2 and Year Prep. Georgina began her teaching journey with us as a new graduate teacher straight out of university. We wish her well as she embarks on a travelling journey around the globe and will see her when she returns in 2021.

● Jodie Strachan (Year 2). Jodie joined the Wembley team three years ago and has taught in Prep and Year 2. Jodie has also been a Wembley parent with her three children attending Wembley as students. Jodie has taken a temporary transfer position at Altona Primary School. We wish her well over the next 12 months in her new school.

● Christine Kane (Year 3). Christine began her Wembley journey as a preservice teacher here. She has been a Wembley parent with her two children attending Wembley, as well as teaching here for the last three years, having taught Year 2 and Year 3. Christine is taking 12 months’ personal leave and is due to return in 2021. We wish her well in her leave and look forward to her return the following year.

● Nadine Park (Year 4). Nadine has been a long-standing teacher at Wembley and has taught all year levels, including RTI. Nadine began her journey here in 2009, 10 years ago. Next year, she will be taking leave to support her own son who is starting school in her local area next year. We wish Nadine and her family well in whatever her future holds. She will be fondly missed.

● Matt Symmons (Year 6). Matt has graced us with his presence at Wembley for the last 15 years, as a teacher of all year levels (except Prep). Matt taught my son for 2 years throughout his Primary School education and I will always remember my son’s words, stating that Mr. Symmons is his favourite all time teacher because he introduced him to computers. Matt is moving to Saltwater College to begin his position as a Physical Education teacher. Matt will be missed by all here at Wembley. We wish him well in his new school and hope that he remembers the Wembley community fondly, as we will certainly remember him.

● Shane Collins (Year 6). Shane has taught in Year 6 and Year 3 after beginning his journey here 3 years ago as a preservice teacher. Shane will surely be missed as he takes on a new position at a coastal location at St Leonards Primary School. Best wishes to Shane as he moves indefinitely to his new school.

● Anna Xasteroulis (RTI). Anna has worked as a Casual Replacement Teacher (CRT) and more recently, as an intervention teacher during Term 4. We thank Anna for her contributions and look forward to seeing her back as a CRT in 2020.

● Jess Wynne and Anna Khoene (specialists Music and French). Jess has worked as a Music teacher at Wembley on one day a week during semester 2. Anna has worked as a French teacher at Wembley, also on one day a week during semester 2. We thank them both for their contributions to our specialist program and wish them well as they return to their base schools in 2020.

● Jason Vandy (current Acting Principal for Term 4). Jason joined the Wembley team this term in the position of Acting Principal. We Thank Jason for continuing the high expectations set for our students and educators. As our Acting Principal, he has stepped into the role seamlessly, leading our teachers, students and the community with success. His friendly smile and visibility around the school will surely be missed. His care and compassion towards all he comes across, has been inspiring. Jason will continue his leadership position at Baden Powell College. We are forever grateful for your impact on this school Jason, keep up the great work.
