marsh turtle. During June and July we’ll walk along sanctuary

trails in search of nesting turtles. In August and September we

Seashore Ramble Use dip nets and magnifiers to search for swimming, flying, and

burrowing wildlife on the sanctuary’s beach at low tide. Our

walk to the beach will take us through five different natural

Cruises and Special Events

Nauset Marsh Family Cruise Cruise through Nauset Marsh on a partially-shaded

pontoon boat and learn about the creatures that live in the

marsh. We’ll pull up a crab trap, an eel pot, and a lobster pot

and may even see seals. Of all our boat programs, this one is

best suited for preschoolers.

Marine Life Cruise Cruise from Sesuit Harbor in Dennis into Cape Cod Bay

aboard the Albatross to look for marine creatures. Our

naturalists will use a plankton net, scallop drag, and fish pots

to bring up fish, crabs, shellfish, and plankton for you to see

and touch. This is a very popular family trip!

North Beach Island Adventure Join a Wellfleet Bay naturalist for a short boat trip over to

North Beach Island, a remote barrier beach in Chatham

where seals are plentiful. We’ll comb the beach and the

wrackline to see what natural treasures we discover. Be

prepared to walk up to 2 miles in soft sand.

Julie Zickefoose In 2002, artist, writer, and naturalist Julie Zickefoose began to

draw and paint wild nestlings day by day, bearing witness to

their swift growth eventually documenting 17 species over 13

years. Her book Baby Birds is the enchanting result. Join Julie

as she shares her influences and artistic process.

Saving Sea Turtles: Preventing Extinction This film highlights the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of

sea turtles that washed up “cold-stunned” on the beaches of

Cape Cod Bay in the fall of 2014 and highlights the critical role

Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary plays in rescuing cold-stunned

turtles. The screening will take place at Wellfleet Harbor

Actors Theater’s Julie Harris Stage.

Special Birding Programs

Birds of the Salt Marsh Salt marshes are used by a surprising diversity of birds. Many

of them are secretive and rarely seen such as bitterns, salt

marsh sparrows, and rails. Join a Wellfleet Bay naturalist at

Fort Hill in Eastham to look for these elusive species and

other, less-secretive marsh birds.

marsh turtle. Learn about terrapins and our research and

Natural History Day Camps in

Wellfleet and Chatham

At Wellfleet Bay Summer Camps in South Wellfleet and

Chatham, every day is an adventure! Campers ages 4–13 have

fun and make friends as they discover Cape Cod habitats and

wildlife. Themed weekly sessions offer a blend of outdoor

exploration, hands-on activities, and games.

Camp programs run Monday through Friday. Discounts are

available for students enrolled in Cape Cod schools. Visit our

Non-member Admission:

$5/adult, $3/child ages 2–12 & seniors age 65 & older

Program Registration Policies:

Refunds are issued if cancellation is received at least 7 days

before the program begins. We reserve the right to make

changes to programs and to cancel programs due to low

enrollment or unfavorable weather. If we cancel, you will

receive a full refund. We do not accept registrations by fax or
