It was one of the few times during time away I rarely thought about the church. After a week of continuing education at our denomination’s San Francisco Theological Seminary (located in San Anselmo) Kathi and I hopped across the Bay to Fisherman’s Wharf and embarked on a ten day inland waterway cruise to Alaska. What an experience! Now, when I said I pushed church business to another portion of my brain, truth to tell, as the old Willie Nelson number puts it, You Were Always on My Mind.

So I am back…and guess what?

Boomers&MORE has an anniversary coming up! It was this time last year that Bob and Colleen Lamberty hosted an informal Wine & Cheese at their home. Since that initial gathering of twenty folks we have mushroomed into a viable fellowship of over fifty plus.

Now, for those who escaped the delight of the SW Florida summer, please know that Boomers& MORE continued strong with a study/fellowship series entitled THE CHRISTIAN &

POLITICS. Come to think of it, there were a lot of you who were still in town!

Well, Look Who’s Back!

What a great year we have ahead of us. Please let us know what you are thinking so we can continue to be a thriving, growing fellowship here at Trinity.

Pastor Chuck

Baby Boomers are a generation that’s going to have a profound impact on the world. Here are 10 facts we bet you didn’t know:

1. They’re Online – and

in Great Numbers

According to a Google study, 78% of Boomers are online. A full one-third of all boomers online describe themselves as “heavy internet users.”

2. They’re Turning 65

Starting in 2011, Boomers began to hit the traditional retirement age of 65 According to AARP, Boomers will turn 65 at a rate of 10,000 a day over the next 18 years.

3. They’re Increasingly

Foreign Born

According to a 2014 report by the U.S. Census, the number of boomers who live in the U.S. but who were born in another country is on the rise. Today approximately 10 million foreign-born boomers call America home. (Continued on next page)

Boomers&MORE will “officially” close out its summer series of THE CHRISTIAN & POLITICS with a grand finale on Tuesday, September 20th at 6pm. You’ve seen those famously collected letter displayed just about everywhere: WWJD

(What Would Jesus Do?) on jewelry, T-shirts, even tattoos!

We’ll take a pass on all the aforementioned fashions and ask a much more serious, even stickier question: WWJD on November 8?

Is there truly a JESUS

PLATORM out there?

Be sure and bring heavy hors 'doeuvres (no clean up, get it?) at 6pm. Then at 6:45, We’ll jump right into a wrap-up of Bruce Ashford’s compelling book ONE NATION UNDER GOD: A Christian Hope for Politics. Tuesday, September 20th — 6pm. Come, join us!

10 Boomer Facts —

4. They’re Thrifty

While not cheap, Boomers don’t believe in spending money needlessly. 79% of baby boomers believe that store brands are an excellent option instead of name brands.

5. They’re Prone to Hepatitis C

While this fact isn’t necessarily all that “fun”, it is important. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Boomers are five times more likely to be infected with Hepatitis C. Since Hep C can sometimes take years to exhibit symptoms, Boomers are encouraged to get a blood test.

6. More Boomers Live in Maine

than Any Other State

Boomers comprise 36.8% of Maine’s total population. New Hampshire, Montana, Vermont and West Virginia round out the top five.

7. They’re Highly Educated

10 Boomer Facts — Continued From Previous Page

8. The Past Three Presidents

are/were Boomers

Barack Obama was born in 1963; George W. Bush was born in 1946; and Bill Clinton was born in 1946. The next President is likely to be a Boomer as well since most of the major candidates are also in this group.

9. They’re Supporting their

Adult Children

A recent survey from the National Endowment for Financial Education found that 59% of boomer parents provide financial support for adult children aged 18 to 39.

10. They’re Not the

Stereotypical “Senior

Citizens.”

Many boomers are still quite active and energetic. For instance, Jerry Seinfeld (born in 1954), Stevie Nicks (born in 1948) and George Clooney (born in 1961) are all boomers. Just because the boomer population is aging doesn’t mean they’re necessarily slowing down. Baby boomers are expected to heavily influence the entire world for decades to come.

LIFE IN WASHINGTON—

A ‘INSIDER’ SHARES HER STORY

Actually, that’s where Senator Roger (R-Iowa) and Mrs. Dee Jepsen spent a decade of their life. While the politic spotlight was on Roger serving in the Congress those years, it was ‘out of the spotlight’ that Dee made an impact during her Washington years. Some might say there was a more powerful movement at work within the Beltway: the Prayer and Bible Study movement. Boomers&MORE will be hosting Dee Jepsen who will share her story—of friendships and conversations with the movers and shakers

of our nation’s capital during the 1980s—and how God is at work in surprising ways in the lives of people. With less than a week before the presidential election, Dee has some great insights on life ‘inside the Beltway’ that speak directly to the needs of our nation today. Don’t miss this!
