Hip-Hop and Rap found their way to Germany in

the 1980s. Hip Hop became popular because of the stationed

American soldiers in Germany, movies and CDs. Movies like Wild Style and Beat Street animated

young people to breakdance, to spray or to rap. So there was an English speaking Hip-Hop wave.

The first German rappers started to rap in

English. They thought that to rap in German was a taboo and vintage.

Torch, a German rapper with an immigrant background, tried to rap in German first. The crowd liked it because they understood what he was rapping about.
