TTEC S067 Manual Metal Arc Welding (Introduction) Pre-requisites to Enrol Not applicable Minimum Enrolment Number 6 students Maximum Enrolment Number 12 students
This practical hands-on short course provides an introduction to arc welding for students with little or no welding experience, and leads on to a recognised industry standard.
Topics covered on the short course include:
» Introduction to arc welding » Safety precautions » Setup and use of equipment » Mild steel welding » Theoretical and practical training in metal arc welding » Basic down hand welding
Upon the successful completion of the course, you’ll gain credits towards the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) unit standard NQF2682, and receive a Unitec Certificate of Attendance.
Note that as this course leads to NZQA Unit standard awards, you’ll need to attach a verified true copy of your passport (and/or permanent residence permit) or NZ birth certificate. (Refer to page 9 for more details).

TTEC S068 Manual Metal Arc Welding (Intermediate)Pre-requisites to Enrol TTEC S067 Minimum Enrolment Number 6 students Maximum Enrolment Number 12 students
This practical hands-on short course is designed for students who have completed the Manual Metal Arc Welding (Introduction) course, or those who have prior experience in basic arc welding.
Topics covered on the short course include:
» Operation of arc welding machinery » Material preparation » Electrode terminology » Down hand in heavy material » Safety precautions and practice
Upon successful completion of the course, you’ll gain credits towards New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) unit standard NQF2671 and receive a Unitec Certificate of Attendance.
Note that as this course leads to NZQA Unit standard awards, you’ll need to attach a verified true copy of your passport (and/or permanent residence permit) or NZ birth certificate. (Refer to page 9 for more details).

TTEC S069 AS/NZS 2980 Certified Arc WeldingPre-requisites to Enrol Not applicable Minimum Enrolment Number 6 students Maximum Enrolment Number 12 students
This practical hands-on short course is designed for students seeking certification as an arc welder and who have completed the Manual Metal Arc Welding intermediate course, or those who have equivalent practical experience.
Topics covered on the short course include:
» Material preparation » Low hydrogen electrode welding » Safety precautions and practice » T-fillet welding break-over test
Upon the successful completion of the course, you’ll receive a Unitec Certificate of Attendance.
Upon reaching the prescribed standard, you may attempt the AS/NZS 2980 certification in any of the following four positions: down-hand, horizontal-vertical, vertical, up and overhead positions. The fee for each attempt is $130.00 per test plate. Please note this fee is additional to the course fees.
Fee: $702.69 including GST

Enrolment information You can apply online for most short courses (if paying by credit card). If online application isn’t available, or you would prefer to pay by EFTPOS or cheque, you will need to submit a hard copy application form.
You can download and print a short course application form from any short course web page, call Freephone 0800 10 95 10 and request a form to be sent out, or pick one up in person from Student Central. Please return your completed enrolment form, together with your payment, to:

If you’re a New Zealand citizen and haven’t studied at Unitec before, you may need to provide a certified copy of your passport or NZ Birth Certificate. If you’re a Permanent Resident and haven’t studied at Unitec before, you’ll need to provide a certified copy of your passport including your current residency permits. If you’ve previously supplied this documentation, you won’t need to provide it again unless you have changed your name or residency status.
A certified copy is a photocopy or scan of the document that has been signed by a Justice of the Peace, solicitor or Kaumatua. You can also bring your original documents to any Student Central at Unitec and we’ll copy and certify them for you.
Places on some Unitec programmes are limited, so it’s a good idea to apply early. We accept applications up to seven days before classes start. Occasionally not enough people register for a course, in which case we reserve the right to postpone or cancel. If a course is cancelled, you’ll receive a full refund of the fee.
