IOL prides itself in the Student Support Services rendered to its students to encourage affective and convenient studying. Support rendered for studying are:

1. ELECTRONIC BOOK / KINDLE

AllEducationqualificationsareaccompanied by an Electronic Book called the Kindle. The Kindle is preloaded with content by IOL and new material can be uploaded at any time throughout the study period. Loaded on the Kindle are the study guides and some textbooks in e-format. The dispatching of electronic books/Kindles, textbooks and study guides will be done directly from the IOL HeadOfficeinWindhoek.Studymaterial will be delivered through postal or courier services. IOL will dispatch the study material to the nearestIOLRegionalOfficesorNampostoffice.Studymaterialsentthrough the local postal services, must be collected from the Post Officewithin15workingdays.Ifthematerial is not collected within the stipulated15workingdaysitwillbe returned to IOL. If you have not received your material within 3 weeks after registration, you should contact

When experiencing trouble logging onto the Student Portal, visit the IOL Website at www.iol.na click on the ‘Student Portal’ link. The link will take you to the log in page. On the left hand side of the page, click on the ‘forgot password’ link. You will be redirected to a new page where you will be asked to enter your student number, year of registration and your mobile number. Once these details have been entered, a new password will be sent to you via text message and you will be able to log onto the Student Portal using the new password.

4. FREE ENGLISH GRAMMAR COURSE

A free English Grammar Course is included in all programmes with your username and password you now have access to complete the online English Grammar Course. You will however need access to the internet. Log into the officialIOLwebsite(www.iol.na)thenclick on the smart education log-in link at the bottom of the page.

• A small interface will open and prompt you to enter your USERNAME and PASSWORD, which you should have received via SMS.• Before accessing a course for thefirsttime,youwillbeaskedto complete the Course Skill Assessment, consists of about 30 questions, (randomly selected). • The Assessment will assist you in selecting the course content best suited for your interest and skill level, creating a customised learning path for you.

Once logged in, on the left-hand side, click on the ‘EBSCO Library’ link that will direct you to the EBSCO online Library. 7. CONTACT CLASSES

IOL provides contact classes on scheduled Saturdays. These classes focus on assignments and examinations. During these classes you will meet with the relevant subject specialists who will advise on

assignments, examinations and give academic guidance and information pertaining your course. The classes will be presented through lync and will thus be transmitted via satellite link to certain venues in the vicinity oftheRegionalOffices.Theseclassesare being recorded for students who were unable to attend and will be available to watch at IOL’s Student Support Resourse Centres. Subscribe to the IOL YouTube channel and you can watch your contact class presentation any where you want to.

8. IOL SCOPE PUBLICATION

The IOL Scope published in the Informante is of great importance. This Scope contains the following very important information:

• frequently asked questions, • announcements of competition winners, • mobile bus schedules, • contact class timetables,• induction and open day timetables, • BFA time tables, • examination information on IOL’s various courses, offers and much more.

Please note that all timetables are also available on the IOL website, the student portal and are posted on Facebook.

9. INDUCTION CEREMONIES

IOL annually hosts one induction per regional branch. Students will receive a text message informing them of inductions or open days in their region. Induction timetables will be available on the Scope (published in the Informanté). The purpose of the Induction initiative is to inform students of IOL’s services and make sure students understand everything regarding their studies. Students will also get

the opportunity to meet IOL staff and ask questions regarding their studies.

10. RESOURCE CENTRES

IOL has Student Support Resource Centers, with a Regional Coordinator toassist,atallRegionalOfficesacross Namibia (to make your studies as convenient as possible). Students have access to a library of all prescribed and recommended study material (guides and textbooks). These centres are equipped with computers, internet, free photocopy and fax facilities.

11. STUDENT COUNSELLING

A Student Counsellor is available to assist students with any social, personal and/or academic counselling that may be needed. Studentswillbenotifiedviatextmessage should the counsellor be in their region. The counsellor can also be reached telephonically.

12. STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)

The Student Representative Council (SRC) was established to represent the students. The names and contact details of the SRC members

COURSE DURATION

Please note the exact duration of your course. Should the duration of your course be

exceeded, your studies will be terminated.

Before your last examination opportunity, you will receive a notice informing you that you only have one more opportunity before termination of your studies. You will also be informed students of your academic progress annually.

SCHOOL BASED STUDIES - SBS

School Based Studies (SBS) is a compulsory subject for all Education courses, except

BEDHONS.Astudenthastoqualifytodothissubjectataschoolforaspecificperiod

– see table above. Students will only receive their School Based Studies Guide and

procedures once they qualify for the phase.

BASIC FIRST AID - BFA

Basic First Aid is a compulsory subject for the Diploma in Pre-Primary and the Bachelor

Education: Senior Primary Degree – see table above. Basic First Aid will work as

follows:

The student will be informed via text message and have to book for the BFA training

that will be presented on Saturdays. The Basic First Aid training expenses are covered

by IOL. If a student booked and misses the scheduled training or fail the training for

whatever reason, the student will be required to pay for the next training

Diploma in Pre- Primary Education (DPPE)

7 6years Every phase is for four consecutive weeks in a pre-primary class.

Students have an option to attend their BFA training elsewhere for as long as the

provider of the course is accredited.

Studentshavetomakesurethattheircertificateisvaliduponcompletionoftheir

courses for them to be allowed to graduate.

ASSIGNMENTS

Assignments ensures a student admission to the examination. Once you met the

minimum requirements for the examination and you fail the examination, you do not

need to resubmit the assignment.

ASSIGNMENT AND EXAMINATION DUE DATES (Ref to Page 2 for table)

Assignments may not be submitted electronically.

EXAMINATION VENUES

Examination venues are indicated on the application form and your preferred venue

was chosen when you completed your application form. A text message will be

forwarded before every examination informing students of the due date for change of

venue.

A“changeofvenue’formneedstobecompletedatyournearestregionalofficeifyou

wish to write examination at a different venue than selected on your application form.

You can only write examination at the examination venue indicated on your Admission

Permit.

ASSESSMENT POLICY

• Assignments give you admission to the examination. You need an average of

50% for assignment (SM=Semester mark) to qualify to write the examination.

• You need an average of 50% for your examination (EM=Examination mark) to

pass the subject.

• Assignmentmark(SM)andExaminationmark(EM)totalthesubject’sfinal

mark(FM)theratioisEM=60%andSM=40%togiveyouaFM

• Pass mark is 50%

EXAMINATION CREDITS

IOLstudentshave2examinationcreditsforeachsubject,whereIUMstudentsonlyhave

one examination credit, therefore if an IOL student fails a subject; they will be allowed a

free examination re-write. Should a subject be failed for the second time, you will have

tore-registerforthatspecificsubject.Thatsubjectcanthenbewrittenduringthenext

examination session.

CHANGES IN PERSONAL INFORMATION

It is important to inform IOL of any changes in

detail (address, cellphone number, surname etc.)

You can do this by sending an e-mail to

[email protected], or by completing a ‘Change of Details

Form’atyournearestIOLRegionalOffice.The

student portal can also be used to update such

information. Should the students personal details

not be updated, valuable information regarding

studies will be lost if IOL does not have the

correct information.

GRADUATION CEREMONIES

The Graduation Ceremony will be held once a

year.Studentswillbenotifiedinadvance.

Pleasenotethatcertificateswillonlybeprinted5

times a year therefore if you do not complete all

your subjects including SBS you will have to wait

forthenextprintdateforyourcertificatetobe

issued. The dates depend on examination results

and SBS submission due date.
