Principal’s Report

Welcome and Welcome back
On Wednesday, along with our Year 11 and 12 students, we welcomed 18 of our 21 Year 7 class to the College. It was
great to see the number of parents who came to the school with their children, and there was possibly a tear or two but it
was a very positive start to the day. Thursday saw the Year 8 to 10 students start back and the school was full once again.
On a staff front, we welcomed Mr Craig Huggins who is our new IT-Network Manager and he has been busy finding his
way around our network.

There have been some changes in responsibilities and who to contact at the College for this year, which are outlined below.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate our College Captains and Vice Captains who
were announced at Presentation Evening last year. I look forward to working with Captains, Anthony Brown and Olivia
Feeny and Vice Captains Tiana Proctor and Cindy Wiseman, along with all of the Year 12 class over the next 9 months.
Start of year – with a busy Term 1
There has been a slight hold up with the delivery of some of our Laptops, but we are still hopeful of having them ready for
distribution around week 3. Our network is undergoing some transformation which should allow much easier access and
more reliability to the network.
Year 11 and 12 Information Evening
We are holding our Year 11 and 12 student and parent information night next week, Wednesday, 6 February at 6pm. The
night will be focussed on giving a general rundown of what will be expected in the year ahead and outlining subject specific
information which will hopefully help parents, help their children at home during the year. We are clearly focussing on
giving every student the best opportunity for success and this night is aimed at helping form a strong home and school
relationship, and there is the expectation that every student will attend with a parent.
Year 7 Welcome BBQ
A letter has gone out in regard to the Year 7 Parent Welcome BBQ which will be held at the College on Thursday, February
7 from 6pm. This will be a great opportunity for parents and staff to get to know each other as this is a vital partnership in
each child’s education. I hope to see you there.
Investiture Day
We are holding our annual Investiture Day on Monday, February 11. Continuing on from the success of last year, we will
be holding the service at the Town Hall and in conjunction with St. Arnaud Primary School. The service will be from 1:45
to 2:45 and all formal student Leadership positions will be recognised. All family and community members are invited
and encouraged to attend.
House Swimming Sports
The inter-house swimming sports are scheduled for Friday, 15 February. This is a normal school day for attendance and
students will have periods 1 and 2 as timetabled and the first race will start at 11:30am. Students will be spoken to about
attendance and participation, or at least supporting their House mates. Parents club will be running a BBQ. I would
encourage as many parents as possible to come and support their children.
Year 8 Camp
On February 18, or week 4, the Year 8 students will be heading off to Rubicon for their annual camp.

Our first Year 7 Textiles lesson was all about looking at how we can create clothes or body covering using different themes. In this session, small teams created a wrapped Christmas present, a cowboy/western style Sherriff, a man in a tuxedo, a bride and a mermaid! As a group, we discussed how to use our scissors and equipment safely and overall, the students had fun designing and working together to make these wonderful creations.

MUSIC NEWS
Page 5
Good news for the College – the Instrumental Music Program will continue to be funded by the South West Victoria Region this year. The allocation provides for twelve lessons over three days. As this program is the only Music subject offered in 2019, it is anticipated that demand for places will be high. Any student in any year may nominate to study an instrument, free of charge, except for hire fees associated with wind instruments. Mr Anthony Briggs will continue as the College’s teacher of Music. Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss the suitability of practical music with their children, and return the nomination form available in next week’s Newsletter. We look forward to a musical year!

The St Arnaud Uniting Church
Debutante Ball Committee
Hello!
The St. Arnaud Uniting Church Debutante Ball Committee is inviting all young ladies of
Year 11 to show an expression of interest for the 2019 Debutante Ball, if they haven’t
already done so.
The date is yet to be confirmed, but we are asking for and accepting names and contact
details in preparation for this year’s Ball.
Once names have been confirmed, there will be update sheets sent out at intervals to
also keep information moving along, and the St. Arnaud Debutante Ball Facebook page
will be opened to Debs, Partners and Parents, for the purpose of keeping up to date with
all things Deb too.
If you could please return the information slip below to Lisa Esmore at the Apex Service
Station, or Alison Darby at MCL Legal, that would be much appreciated.
Thank you and see you at the Deb!
