Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Weekly Reflection Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time | September 27
FAMILIAR INSIGHTS Spiritual teachers tend to repeat themselves, and to repeat other teachers. Maybe there really aren’t that many different truths to tell. Just a lot of
slow, sleepy human beings—like us—who need to hear the basics over and over. Consider today’s readings. People complain God isn’t “fair,” and Ezekiel answers that God is more than fair. People choose their own fates, and people can change. Even evildoers can turn, do right, and live. “Actions speak louder than words.” A fresh new insight? Hardly. Paul tells the Philippians that he would truly be encouraged if those who claimed to be believers would, in fact, look to others’ interests and not their own. “The proof of the pudding is in the eating.” A novel idea? I don’t think so. In Jesus’ story of the farmer and his sons, everyone knows that the one who said he wouldn’t work—but did—is way ahead of the one who said he would work—but didn’t. “Talk is cheap.” Heard that before? Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
At this time the faithful are still dispensed in charity from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. In addition to in-person Masses, weekend Masses will continue to be livestreamed on Facebook until all restrictions have been lifted. All attending Mass are asked to do so with patience and understanding. Please follow the directions given by the parish staff and liturgical disci-ples before and after Mass. If you are planning to attend Mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, it is important to know the liturgical adaptations implemented on June 24. For a complete list of requirements, please visit gscc.net/important-announcement. Out of love and charity to our neighbors, please do not come to Mass if you are showing any symptoms of sickness. Pregnant women and those with pre-existing conditions are highly encouraged to stay at home during this Phase I of re-opening our parish community. Let us all continue to pray for those who have been afflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic through illness, economic hardship, or fear and anxiety.
Reminder Regarding In-Person Mass
2021 Annual Diocesan Appeal

When you make a com-mitment to the Annual Diocesan Appeal, you are responding to our call to witness to Christ, the reason for our hope.

welcomed Mercy into the Catholic Church. Mercy had participated in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a process of conversion and study in the Catholic faith for Catechumens and Candidates coming into full communion with the Church. Mercy had already been baptized in another Christian tradition so her baptism was already recognized by the Catholic Church. She entered the Church Sunday through a Profession of Faith and Reception of Confirma-tion and the Eucharist. Along with the RCIA team, please welcome Mercy to the Catholic Church! To God be the Glory!
Welcome to the Church!
Small Church Communities
Are you tired of COVID and being isolated from others?
Are you wanting to connect with other people?
Are you wanting to grow in your faith?
Are you wanting to encounter Christ in a deeper way?
Are you wanting to share your faith with others? Consider joining a Small Church Community…new groups forming now! A Small Church Community is a small group of 8-12 adults (sometimes families) who gather regularly to connect their faith with everyday life. The early Christians gathered in small groups, most frequently in a home. That experience allowed a deep sharing of faith and life. Today, SCCs facilitate that sharing in the presence of trusted friends. Relationships are formed in which sharing, listening, and genuine communication are nurtured. The sharing of faith leads to action on behalf of others. The purpose of a Small Church Community is to help the participants make strong connections between their faith and their everyday life. Small Church Communities will be meeting either in person or via Zoom – whatever you are most comfortable with! Sign up on our website, gscc.net/scc

Honduras Mission Program Annual Appeal
During the month of October, the Catholic Church remembers missions all over the world. We are reminded, “Mission is a free and conscious response to God’s call.”
Pope Francis tells us that “In this year marked by the suffering and challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic, the missionary journey of the whole Church continues in light of the words found in the account of the calling of the prophet Isaiah: ‘Here am I, send me’ (6:8).” We receive an invitation to step out of ourselves for love of God and neighbor; it presents itself as an opportunity for sharing, service and intercessory prayer. The staff at the Fray Casimiro Cypher Institute, our Honduras Mission partner, continues to make efforts to fulfill their mission “as a Catholic Institution that provides technical and professional training to the youth to become leaders and to support personal, family and country development”. The teachers and students continued their studies at home in spite of the challenges with technology and internet resources and the families suffered a big financial impact, many of whom lost their sources of income. On October 3 and 4, we will have our annual collection appeal to support our Honduras Mission Program. We ask you to remember the students and their families as they face bigger challenges than most of us. Your donations will enable us to fund and focus on the following goals for our Honduras Mission Program in the coming year. Please prayerfully consider making a donation to support our Honduras Mission Program. With your commitment, we can continue to help the poor in Honduras and provide them with skills that will help them earn money to support themselves and their families for years to come. Please make a Monthly donation via Faith Direct or One Time gift by making a note to indicate Honduras Mission Program. Finally, I want to ask you to keep praying for our friends in Honduras as they do for us. On behalf of the students, teachers and staff at the Institute. THANK YOU! gscc.net/honduras

A Priesthood Sunday Prayer For Fr. Mike, Fr. Ron, Fr. John Mark, Fr. Zach, and all priests Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests.
Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments. Help them, and all priests, to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for your people. Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom. Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of your divine grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest. Amen.
In Memory Bless our dearly departed Fr. Richard Eldridge, T.O.R., who died last December 28

Eternal rest grant onto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faith-fully departed, rest in peace. Amen.

"We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in poli-tics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that
the leader can govern." - Pope Francis, 9/16/13
The Catholic bishops of the United States are pleased to offer once again to the Catholic faithful Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship (en Español), our teaching document on the political responsibility of Catholics. This statement represents our guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy. We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will to use this statement to help form their conscienc-es; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching. The statement lifts up our dual heritage as both faithful Cath-olics and American citizens with rights and duties as participants in the civil order.
