Father Richard Memorial Fund

Father Richard poured his whole self into living out Good Shepherd’s mission of discipleship and evangelization. As pastor of Good Shepherd, he taught our community firsthand that “By God, We Can Do It.” He led us out of debt, bringing Good Shepherd into a strong

position to continue spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In memory of Father Richard’s faithful leadership and stewardship of Good Shepherd, one way to honor his legacy is by contributing to the Father Richard Memorial Fund which is directed toward the land acquisition debt. (Over $625,018 has currently been donated towards our goal of $1.5 million.) Checks can be made out to Good Shepherd Catholic Community with “Father Richard Memorial Fund” on the memo line. Please keep Father Richard & his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.

Weekly Reflection

The Most Holy Trinity | June 7 GRACE AND ETERNAL LIFE Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked people? Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times? Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick to anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accordingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s forgiveness and grace. Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Guardian Ministry BECOME A GUARDIAN - GUARDIAN MINISTRY Our vision is to be a Catholic community that is alert and prepared to respond to any potential emergency while maintaining an invitational and welcoming atmosphere. Armed Guardians are made up of trained armed volunteers who are responsible for controlling access points and contacting or containing potential threats or persons of concern. Their first priority will always be to de-escalate any situation to restore order. They will also have authority to utilize an appropriate level of force in order to repel violence and control a chaotic situation when immediately necessary in order to prevent the unlawful use of force or criminal activity of another. The Team will utilize a discreet and concealed security posture and should be comprised of servant leaders who are prepared to respond to resistance only when it is immediately necessary because there are no other options available. Initial Minimum Requirements: Texas License to Carry – Proof of a current Texas License to Carry must be provided in order to serve as an Armed Guardian. Social History – Complete a comprehensive self-report history statement that is reviewed and analyzed by a licensed Counselor. Safe Environment – Complete the training required by the Diocese of Fort Worth and remain current. Legal Service Membership – Armed Guardians must obtain legal service membership from an approved provider. Physical Standards: Kneeling – Have the capacity to move from standing to kneeling and back to standing again. Move Laterally – Have the capacity to move from side-to-side rapidly. Sprint – Have the capacity to sprint and close distance in a short time.

Parish E-Newsletter

On Saturday, May 30th at the Vigil of Pentecost mass,

Good Shepherd Catholic Community welcomed eight indi-viduals into the Catholic Church. All had participated in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a process of conversion and study in the Catholic faith for catechu-mens and candidates coming into full communion with the Church.

Catechumens (pictured in robes), who had never been

baptized, received Baptism, Confirmation and First Com-

munion. Candidates, who had already been baptized in

another Christian tradition and whose baptism was al-

ready recognized by the Catholic Church, entered the

Church through a Profession of Faith and Reception of

Confirmation and the Eucharist.

Along with Fr. John Mark and Fr. Ron, please wel-

come Travis, Elizabeth, Sean, Lorie, Taylor, Robert, Cal-

loway, and Jeff. To God be the Glory!

The recent news of yet another crime against social justice has swept the nation. As Catholics, we are outraged at the lack of love and compassion on all sides and we urge all people to come together in prayer for an end to the hatred that divides our country. In loving response, we also encour-age you to “Shield a Badge with a Prayer.” This program is designed to have sponsors adopt a Southlake Police Officer and say a prayer for him/her every day asking God that they be kept safe, make good sound decisions, and re-turn home safely every evening. To learn more about the program go to the following web site

http://www.shield-a-badge.org/home.html

The following is a republication of a news release from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

WASHINGTON – Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has issued a statement on George Floyd and the protests in American cities that have taken place over the last several days. This follows the Friday statement from seven U.S. bishop chairmen of committees within the USCCB.

Archbishop Gomez’s full statement follows:

The killing of George Floyd was senseless and brutal, a sin that cries out to heaven for justice. How is it possible that in America, a black man’s life can be taken from him while calls for help are not answered, and his killing is recorded as it happens?

I am praying for George Floyd and his loved ones, and on behalf of my brother bishops, I share the outrage of the black community and those who stand with them in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and across the country. The cruelty and vio-lence he suffered does not reflect on the majority of good men and women in law enforcement, who carry out their duties with honor. We know that. And we trust that civil authorities will investigate his killing carefully and make sure those re-sponsible are held accountable.

We should all understand that the protests we are seeing in our cities reflect the justified frustration and anger of millions of our brothers and sisters who even today experience humiliation, indignity, and unequal opportunity only because of their race or the color of their skin. It should not be this way in America. Racism has been tolerated for far too long in our way of life.

It is true what Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, that riots are the language of the unheard. We should be doing a lot of listening right now. This time, we should not fail to hear what people are saying through their pain. We need to finally root out the racial injustice that still infects too many areas of American society.

But the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost. Let us keep our eyes on the prize of true and lasting change.

Legitimate protests should not be exploited by persons who have different values and agendas. Burning and looting communities, ruining the livelihoods of our neighbors, does not advance the cause of racial equality and human dignity.

We should not let it be said that George Floyd died for no reason. We should honor the sacrifice of his life by removing racism and hate from our hearts and renewing our commitment to fulfill our nation’s sacred promise — to be a beloved community of life, liberty, and equality for all.
