It’s important to know what we value in life, or to know our priorities.

This allows us to make decisions based on what we value and to “count the cost” of doing something (deciding whether it’s truly worth doing).

Are you really going to make loving God and loving others THE most important priority in your life?

John 2:1-8The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”  “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.

John 2:9-11When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

Why do you think Jesus’ mom asked him to help?

What did Jesus mean by, “my time has not yet come” ?

Why do you think Jesus did as his mother asked and turned the water into wine?

What was significant about this miracle?

God knows how important family relationships are in our lives.

In the 10 Commandments He tells us to “Honor your father and your mother.”

Proverbs 23:22 tells us to, “Listen to your father who gave you life.”

God wants us to honor and respect our parents, even when it is difficult.

One of the greatest ways to impact our families is to love God and love them.

Raise your hand if…• I have one or more step-parents.• I tell my parent(s) that I love them on a

regular basis.• I wish my parent(s) would spend more

time with me.• I owe my parent(s) an apology for

something I have said or done.• I am willing to let God improve my

relationship with my parent(s).• I have a perfect family.

This week, take a step to “Let Love Rule” in your family:

• Think of some ways we can better learn about your parent(s) stories.

• Besides telling them, think about how you can show your parent(s) this week that you love them.
