Reading• Children will have a guided reading session with their teacher every week;• Additional 1:1 reading sessions will also take place;• We will visit the school library once a week;• Please read every day with your child and sign their homework diary; • Focus should be on retrieval; inference; language and structure; author’s intent and meaning of words in context (encourage the use of dictionaries).

Writing Expectations

• Composition – sentence structure, text

structure, features of the text-type,

planning, drafting, editing and re-drafting;

• Grammar – tense, sentences (simple,

compound, complex), phrases, clauses,

nouns, verbs, adverbs, pronouns, adjectives,

connectives, conjunctions, prepositions etc.;

Expectations in Mathematics

• Expectations in all areas of mathematics are now at least one year group higher;

• Example calculation:A factory makes 9100 toy bears.

6460 are brown.The others are pink, blue and white.

There are equal numbers of each. How many of the bears are white?

The emphasis in school is on calculations.

Please look for opportunities to support your child with their understanding of shape and

space; converting metric units; telling the time and reading

timetables.

• Continuous teacher assessment informs progress, planning, differentiation, intervention etc.;• Pink and green marking indicates

progress and targets;• Half-termly progress tests for Reading

and Mathematics;• Regular assessed pieces of writing.

Creative Curriculum

The majority of the objectives for the Foundation Subjects will be taught

through ‘Topic’ work.

• Importance of a healthy lifestyle;• Full PE and games kits should be in school at all times;• Children should not wear jewellery;• Please could all items of clothing be

named;• Swimming kit should be brought to school on Thursday mornings.

are given out on Fridays;• Please allow children to complete homework as independently as possible, whilst showing an interest

in their work and supporting them as necessary;

Punctuality

•Teachers are on duty from 8.40am;

•Registration is at 8.50am - it is extremely

important that children arrive on time;

•Please collect your child promptly at 3pm.

Children who are not picked up by 3.10pm will

go to After-School Club (there will be a charge);

• For children who are persistently picked up late,

there may be a need for referral to Social

Services;

• 100% attendance is our aim. However, if your

child is ill, please ring the absence line, giving

your child’s name and reason for absence.

Golden Time

• Children should follow our Golden Rules and are rewarded for doing so;

• Golden Time is recorded in diaries on a Friday;

• There are additional rewards for children who keep all of their Golden Time for extended periods.

Extended Leave

Government guidelines do not allow leave to be granted.

•Fixed penalty notices (£60 per parent, per child) for unauthorised leave;

•E.W.O. spot visits.

• Our very popular parent workshops will once again be offered this year;• Workshop will take place after the half- term holiday; • Dates will be posted on the weekly newsletters.

• We encourage all parents to attend when possible – important information and resources will be provided that will assist you in supporting your child;

• Analysis of data has shown that children of parents who attended workshops did extremely well by the end of the year.
