The Daily Routine • 9:00 - 9:30 Guided

Reading

• 1 hour of maths and 1 hour of literacy

• Word Time 3 times a week

• Daily Magic Maths

• Daily assembly

• Morning playtime

• 1 hour for Lunchtime

• Foundation subjects

Transition from Year One

• The children have already visited Year 2.

• We continue to encourage the children to be independent and responsible.

• The children will still take part in self initiated, and independent activities.

• We give the children opportunities to use the outdoor environment.

Guided Reading • Use the same scheme as in

Year One

• Needs 5 adults every morning!!

• Training on how the scheme works is usually in

early September

Reading at school and at home

• Discussion

• Expression

• Understanding

Home reading books • Are their own choice from an appropriate

selection of books

• Discussion is as important as reading

• Some books may challenge the children more than others

• Some days they may require more support than others

Home reading books Children can change their books daily but

as the books get longer the children may change them less frequently.

Reading Records will be checked once a week.

Maths Children are grouped according to

their needs

What else will your child learn in Year 2?

• Half termly or termly themes covering all areas of the curriculum

• Overviews will be sent to you showing what the children will be doing

• Your expertise/knowledge is very welcome in the classroom

Homework • Choice from a selection of topic based and maths activities

• Fun and designed to involve you • Mental maths activities will be sent home weekly.

Home/School Liaison Books

• Used in the same way as in Year One

• Check daily for messages • Still feel free to come and talk, preferably after school.

National Curriculum Tests

• These take place in the Summer term

• Your child will not be aware they are taking the tests.
