J.B. Watkins Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a great way to get involved, be informed and stay connected. Our active PTA leads many events, clubs and activities for students and provides resources for teachers and staff who make our school one of the best in Chesterfield County!
GREAT MEMBER BENEFITS INCLUDE:
Positive Experiences- PTA raises money for
the school through fun family events such as Pumpkin
Lighting, Apex Fun Run, the Watkins Wiggle, and the
Spring Carnival. Your participation provides
opportunities for artistic expression through the
Reflections Art Contest and Talent Show as well as
curriculum- based programs like the Science Technology
Engineering Art and Math (S.T.E.A.M) night, the after
school Watkins Enrichment Program (WEP), and Chess
Club.
Stay Connected- There is no better way to
know what's happening at school. Visit our updated
jbwpta.com website for PTA meeting dates, agenda and
minutes. Joining the PTA does not require you to attend
the monthly meetings, but feel free to join us for any or
all of the PTA meetings this year.
Be a Role Model- As a PTA member, you
demonstrate to your child the importance you place on education.
Savings- Membership comes with a a coupon for a
FREE Chick-Fil-A sandwich. Also you can SAVE 15% at
Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg. Check out the
county, state and national PTA websites at cccptas.org,
vapta.org or pta.org for more information.
Share ideas- The PTA is a forum for idea exchange
and advocacy. Being an active member of the PTA can be
a way for you to influence change.
Tap into a Network- Share parenting ideas,
concerns and experiences with other parents and
educators. PTA functions are opportunities to meet
other parents and teachers, build relationships and
discuss issues.
Personal Growth- Volunteering with the PTA
provides opportunities to put your skills and hobbies to
good use for a good cause—the education of your child
and all children.
READY TO JOIN? We accept cash or checks
payable to J.B. Watkins Elementary PTA or via the JB Watkins
PTA PayPal link on jbwpta.com. All parents and extended family
are welcome and encouraged to join (no student members).
Please complete and return only one envelope per family. Thank you for your valued support!
DID YOU KNOW? Research shows that kids do better in school when their
parents are involved

Help wanted BE A LUnch buddY Help NEEDED
Would you like to see your child while he or she eats lunch with their classmates, and at the same time help other students who need help at lunchtime?
Lunch Buddies assist with opening condiment packets, Gogurt™, and other hard-to-open food items.
There are three shifts for Lunch Buddies. You can sign-up for just the shift that occurs during your child’s lunch period, or you can sign-up for two or all three shifts. All three shifts occur between about 11:00 & 1:15. Lower grades eat first, and require more help.
If you are interested in being on the Sign-Up-Genius mailing list, please contact me at: [email protected]
Each month you will receive an email directing you to the Sign-Up for the following month, there you will be able to select your desired times and dates to volunteer.
This school year we will have over 400 Kindergarten and First Grade Students. These are the kids who need the most help with their lunches.
x When you assemble your child’s lunch, please show them how to open the items that you are giving them including pre-packaged food, reusable containers, Thermos™ bottles, and zipper bags.
x Take Lunchable™ type trays out of the box and recycle box at home.
x If you are sending single-use plastic bottles, please break the tamper-proof seal and then re-tighten.
x If you send juice pouches, boxes or milk boxes, please have your child learn how to open straw and insert it.
x Use scissors to snip packages with crimped edges to make them easier to open.
