Why Boy Scouts?
In boy scouts you will be given the chance to
learn the life habits that great people exhibit –
habits that will help you excel in school, work,
life, and to become an excellent father, husband,
holy man, leader or whatever you decide to be.

• Tan Shirts – we ALWAYS wear them tucked in!
• Remove your “bling” from cub scouts

Troop 272 Rules• Respect Others • Obey the Scout Sign• Do your best in following the Scout Oath and Law• Class A Uniform to be worn on all scouting events except when• otherwise specified• Bring Boy Scout Handbook to all Troop Meetings for updates and• advancements.• Disruptions will not be tolerated at any time during the meeting.• Be polite to all present (verbally and otherwise).• Cursing and name-calling will not be tolerated at any time.• Keep your hands and feet to yourself at all times. Headlocks, stealing
hats, intentionally stomping on other people’s feet or hands, kicking,pushing people around, etc will not be tolerated.
• Fighting will not be tolerated for any reason.

• 7 levels called “ranks”
• Scout rank is first

• Each level challenges boys to complete:
– New scout skills
– New levels of service
– New levels of teaching and guiding
– New levels of leading
– New levels of “Scout Spirit”

– The same handbook has all answers in written
format (for scout to 1st class)
– Visual learning available: At troop meetings, on
the Internet, and via Podcasts

• Part I: Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd and 1st Class
– First 4 levels/ranks mostly scout skills
– No merit badges needed to advance
– Requirements can happen concurrently
• Ex. You can get 1st Class & Tenderfoot requirements signed off at the same campout.

• Part II: Star, Life, and Eagle
– Focus on leadership skills, service projects, and
expanding oneself through merit badges
– Eagle requires going before a district board of
review and service project approval.

• Parents don’t sign your handbooks
• Only leaders with “sign-off” privileges can test you and sign your books
– Scoutmaster, ASM’s, SPL, ASPL New Scouts

– Sign-off by scoutmaster for scout spirit
– Sign-off by scoutmaster for a conference
– Sign-off by committee for board of review

• Buy/borrow the merit badge pamplet (seen here ==�)
• Download the merit badgeworksheet & fill it out
• Answer the “Discuss” and “Explain”questions on the worksheetbefore your first meeting

• Periodically give your handbook to Mr. P so he can record your progress.
• Scan completed or partial MB cards (both sides) and keep for your records
• Keep “applicant” portions of the merit badge cards safe until you are 19
• Bring a binder with you to all meetings that has your 3 scout meeting essentials

• Get fit! Most of our trips will require extensive physical activity. Don’t be left behind because you can’t meet fitness requirements.
